why are you so paranoid? Dems will be at least as powerful as Republicans on this panel and with, presumably, a Dem governor in 2010 and our having gained 2 assembly seats and hopefully 1 senate seat this year, I just don't see the need for this "sky is falling" stuff. You know what happened when it was up to the Dem-controlled legislature -- they re-districted so as to preserve the status quo, ie the incumbency protection racket. let's shake shit up for both parties, make them have to actually run for these seats and be held accountable. I voted against this but now that it's passed, I'm gonna hope for the best.
Memo to McCain campaign: one truism of the primary season -- and indeed of the general, I'd argue, is that the closer you are to Illinois, the more popular Barack is. of all places in Iowa for her to go... Although, she did do a rally in Los Angeles a few weeks ago and it did mobilize the wingnuts for some of their propositions. You guys have any statewide issues on the ballot this year?
unfortunately you're right, many Obama voters will be voting for 4 & 8. if you're saying that Yes on 4 & 8 are acceptable positions, however, I'd have to disagree with you. 8 would enshrine discrimination into the constitution and change the current CA legal definition of marriage to one that is exclusionary and treats people differently under the law. As for 4, it's at best a solution in search of a problem and at worst, something that could lead pregnant teenage girls in desperate family situations to make really bad and potentially dangerous positions. But on a basic level, it's the right's attempt to chip away at choice little by little using the ballot initiative process, which is the only way they can get legislation passed. And come on, it's the 3rd version of this bill in 4 years, each time it's been defeated. Enough is enough!
he is the lowest common denominator incarnate, you're right, but the way they're letting him go out and hang himself the way he is, make a fool of himself...I have contempt for Joe, sure, but far worse is the cynicism and almost cruelty of the McCain campaign to use him the way they are.
