Stephonopoulos fails to fact-check Giuliani

I am sure you all have heard of Rudy the Liar talking about how there were no attacks during Bush's Presidency, but there was one during Obama's. This was on Good Morning America and George Stephonopoulos failed to correct him.

What is even worse is when Rudy's spokesman offered a clarification/retraction/spin, George acts like his only mistake was failing to bring up 9/11 and makes the mistake of giving the content of the clarification credibility.

This was on George's blog.

Through his spokesman, Rudy Giuliani has clarified the remarks he made this morning on GMA regarding terrorist attacks on the United States under Presidents Bush and Obama.

The Mayor's spokesman says that the remark "didn't come across as it was intended" and that Giuliani was "clearly talking post-9/11 with regards to Islamic terrorist attacks on our soil."

Whatever the Mayor meant, it's not what he said. All of you who have pointed out that I should have pressed him on that misstatement in the moment are right. My mistake, my responsibility.

It's not war you need, stupid. It's better intelligence.

I am as mad at Islamic fanatics as any jingoistic fool out there who thinks by huffing and puffing every second about terrorists and wanting to invade every freaking country, he is showing utmost patriotism.

You know, is it unreasonable to expect a Nigerian whose own dad complained about him to the US not to get a travel visa to the US? Like I said, all this  bullshit about TSA regulations and war on terror was nothing but a joke. Overkill when basic common sense was needed to take care of these issues. This is basic common sense. While we spend trillions on wars that do little to solve the issue, and while we spend billions and inconvenience many people on flights in the name of security, we do not do enough in upgrading intelligence and sharing intelligence among different agencies. There is no accountability in government and there is not enough people in government who refrain from acting dumb.

The terrorist from Nigeria won

I was amused by some idiot CNN reporter wondering how we can be truly 100% safe. I have news for these fearmongerers. No one is 100% safe. We can only implement prudent measures and hope for the best. We have a higher chance of getting hurt in a routine traffic accident. Yet no one suggests overreacting by reducing speed limits to dented bumper only speeds.

I have been complaining about the ridiculous TSA procedures for years now. I don't mind common sense screening. But the set of screening items has become incredibly bloated. So how did that stupid 3 oz liquid rule limitation work out? If you keep overburdening semi competent TSA employees with way too many rules, you risk them missing out on obvious screening of, hmm, let's say, EXPLOSIVE DEVICES. Oh, throw that 10oz contact lens solution out. I FEEL SO SAFE. But you know what, we might occasionally miss out on a bomb or a pair of knives(which one of my colleagues accidentally brought on board in her carry on recently). Yeah, that makes sense. Let's go back to common sense security. Seriosuly, what is going to prevent 5 terrorists from combining their five 3oz volumes of liquids into one "GIANT" 15oz liquid container once they go past security? Or just by repeated attempts, terrorists can keep trying to get that one incompetent TSA agent who will overlook something obvious.

We keep hearing about this war on terror. Imagine if the government actually concentrated on the basics and spent the savings in time and money on actually improving enforcing basic screening better. The guy's dad reports him to the US Consulate. Yet in the last 7 years, we got a massive government setup which is unable to relay this to whoever is screening passengers for US visas in real time.

Liberal senators can end the 60th vote blackmail

I am sick of the Liebermans and others holding up the Democratic party agenda. You know what? The only reason tehse guys get away with this blackmail is because they know this kind of strategy of being the possible 60th vote hasn't been overused. Because if it is overused, then the white house and the other powers that be will just put a stop to appeasing any possible 60th vote.

Maybe some of the liberal senators can start pushing their pet positions and threaten to derail the 60 vote majority for certain bills. once it gets out of control, then people will realize that this approach won't get you special attention.

Maybe someone should advise Bernie Sanders that he can actually have as much "blackmail" power as Lieberman.

Petruna and Airtran Flight 297: It's scary how DUMB right wingers are.

Here is a summary:
This is about another right wing viral hot topic that eventually got debunked. Petruna, supposedly a NASA employee at one time, started circulating emails about witnessing a dry run by islamic terrorists on Flight 297(Atlanta-Houston) but the whole account was being suppressed. The right wing community would add to the silliness by adding comments that are imbued with over the top gravitas of how each one of them either worked in the aviation industry, or knew the guy personally and was a stand up guy who wouldnt lie, or were in the CIA or government and how they can tell that this is true. This is a cheneyesque tactic where instant credibility is demanded just by saying "well, come on, how can you question serious people like us?" .

Anyway, here is that link:

Glenn Beck supposedly showed similar enthusiasm for this topic on another site. I love how Debbie Schussel, one of those idiotic talking heads I feel like going all Gallagher like on her watermelon head, goes on about how she personally checked out this source.

**  UPDATE, 9:41 p.m. ET: Earlier today, I contacted Tedd Petruna, the brave passenger on AirTran Flight 297, who-with another Texan-saved the day from apparent Islamic terrorists, leaving him a voicemail message asking for confirmation of the e-mail and events below.  Mr. Petruna called me back, tonight, and confirmed that he did write the e-mail below and that it's all true.  WAKE. UP. AMERICA.  We are under siege.  **

This is an update by Debbie which is postdated after an initial caveat by her which claims that she is not 100% sure it is true but she is willing to believe this account. So at the time of the update, whatever little doubts she has are gone.

Why is Obama's team not as smart as The Daily Show writers?

Today Daily Show tore apart Fox News and other right wing critics going after Obama and comparing him to Mao for trying to shut out FOX NEWS. They not only showed your typical collection of clips capturing FOX in contradictory position, but also Jon Stewart got to explain in clear language how hypocritical these guys are.

Whenever Obama's people try to say something in defense of their actions, they only seem to come across as clumsy. They showed Valerie Jarrett stumbling over simple easy to answer questions from Campbell Brown on FOX and MSNBC bias. Why doesn't Obama have a PR team that disseminates easy to understand cliff notes of sorts to all Obama team members by email so they know how not to be taken unawares by the press and be ready with an answer if they are good enough to come up with their own answers?

It is really not that tough. Obama and the party need to have a central resource for all Democratic Politicians to refer to when they need help or be aware of how to debunk silly criticisms of the party.

Lieberman laughing again at Democrats expense. Thanks Bayh.

I have no problem if a senator wants to go with another solution that is not the public option. But then articulate an alternative that will help all Americans get at least basic health care.

Remember when Evan Bayh told us that we need to give Lieberman the chairmanship to prevent him from  filibustering on the Democratic Party agenda(except for the Iraq war where even Democratic Party insiders always knew he was batshit insane). Not only is Lieberman not going to support the Democratic Party proposals on a public option, he is saying he will join in a filibuster.

This guy has no principles. He is bought off by the insurance and financial lobbies. His wife has a cushy paid position where she gets paid more than her market value which is an indirect form of corruption.

I want all the liberal radio hosts and bloggers with any influence to demand why Evan Bayh is unwilling to  back up what he said when he wanted us to be understanding of their shenanigans to get their buddy Lieberman the chairmanship.

If Kissinger can win a Nobel Peace Prize, anyone can

While I am annoyed by Obama getting the Peace Prize so early in his Presidency with little track record, I am amused by some middle aged Republicans expressing outrage and derision. Where was this sentiment when Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize? THis is a guy who condoned the genocide in Bangladesh and in fact, exhibited a nasty streak to anyone who supported the ending of genocide over there.

THat's all I gotta say in this diary.

Is Geithner Obama's Michael Brown?

Let me get this straight. Geithner is clearly not as big a goofball or as unqualified as Michael Brown was. But why has obama given him and Summers so much importance from the beginning and seems to trust Geithner so blindly?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/06 /william-black-geithner-a_n_311448.html

Former federal banking regulator William Black, who certainly hasn't stepped back from his disdain for the Obama administration's financial regulatory team, has once again singled out Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner for particular opprobrium in an interview with Newsweek.

Black, an associate professor of economics and law at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, is perhaps best known for his work during the savings and loan crisis of the 1990s. Black points out that investigations into the S&L crisis resulted in over 1,000 convictions, while the current financial crisis -- which is much larger in scope -- has yet to yield a single conviction.

Not surprisingly, this isn't the first time Black's taken a shot at Geithner, who he's targeted for not taking a prosecutorial role in ferreting out the causes of the financial crisis. Earlier this year, he said that Geithner "has a track record of failure everywhere he's gone."

In an interview with Bill Moyers earlier this year, Black went even farther when the subject of the size of the bailouts came up. He actually accused Geithner of covering up the health of the financial system:
