If Obama wins - put Hillary on the Supreme Court

So this isn't going to be a long diary, just an opinion I have developed after chewing over this whole emerging super-delegate mess. And the thought occurred to me, WHAT IF Obama was winning on the delegate count and the overall popular vote, but did not have enough delegates to stave off a brokered convention? Frankly I hate the idea of a brokered convention and super-delegates making the choice for us. So what would be something Obama could offer Hillary, to step back and let him have the nomination?

AHA! Offer her the next opening on the Supreme Court!! It would be a brilliant move (and it would drive the conservatives crazy!!) And we would have Hillary helping shaping law for our country for the next 20-30 years!!
I think that would be a fair trade, and can't imagine Hillary turning it down.

What do you think?

Re: If Obama wins

It is a nice thought but it is not going to happen. Obama might get the nomination but he is sure to loose GE in a landslide to McCain.
GE is not a Caucus. You do not win GE by trucking in 20000 activists. You do not win GE if you do not get ove 30% of White vote. The Repug machine would simply destroy him.

If he is the nominee he would loose:

CA,OH,PA,FL

Re: If Obama wins

Obama loses California? You're out of your mind.  And the black vote in PA puts Obama over easily as it always does for the Dems.

If I recall, a poll conducted after the Iowa caucuses had Iowans picking Obama over EVERY GOP challenger by at least 10 points. They saw him up and close. And Iowa voted for Bush.

Obama would win Colorado, Virginia, Iowa and maybe North Carolina over McCain. And with Ohio's economic troubles - and Strickland breaking through in 2006 - I see any Democrat winning there.

There's a reason polls show Obama beating McCain at a higher margin than Clinton.

Oh, and Clinton is not going to win any of those states where Obama got 30% of the white vote.

Re: If Obama wins

The GE is in November 2008 not Mar 2008. You can take your poll and stick you know where......The only reason republicans are not attacking Obama is because they want Dems to nominate Obama. After democrats commit the blunder of the century they would pull all stops. Repugs are already uncorking the Champaign. The Latino and Asian vote would move to McCain and the Governator would actively campaign for McCain. Dems would loose California. Charlie Crist would be nominated as VP and you can kiss goodbye to Fl. The only reason repugs are voting the caucuses for Obama is because they do not want to face Clinton. You got to be naive to believe that people like Bill Kristol are really in love with Obama. They all know it is very easy to beat him.

Neither one of them is qualified for the SCOTUS. You have to have years of experience as a judge of some significance in order to see your interpretation of the Constitution as it applies to the cases that you decide upon.

??

anyone can be nominated for SCOTUS - Ex presidents have been on the SC.

Whether or not you get confirmation is a different story

Re: If Obama wins - put Hillary on the Supreme Cou
Technically, you are right. But it would be a long shot if someone can get the nomination without extensive judicial experience. I know Pres. William Howard Taft was made Chief Justice after a failed presidency. But he was nominated by the most crooked Pres. in our history, Warren G. Harding

on the Supreme Court

She's about 20 years too old for us to offer her that position.

Re: on the Supreme Court

agree -

if she loses the nom, i think she'll wait to see what happens in the GE, if McCain wins, she comes back to save the party in 2012.

she's got a Senate seat for life

That is not too shabby, really. She can do a lot of good there if she doesn't win the nomination.

Re: on the Supreme Court

I think she might retire and work in the private sector.  This was her year.  Any Democrat will win this year, and in 8 years she'll be just a few years younger than McCain is now, possibly running against Obama's VP.

I would rather have her as Health and Human Services Secretary.

I see that as a demotion.

Re: If Obama wins - put Hillary on the Supreme Cou

I think it's the worst idea I've heard since someone suggested putting Bill Clinton on the Supreme Court. Skipping over her complete and obvious lack of judicial temperament, judging by her politics she'd be another Sandra Day O'Connor. (Except she'd probably be more likely to support extreme claims of executive power than O'Connor was).

Re: If Obama wins - put Hillary on the Supreme Cou

I do not remember the last time we had a Supreme Court Justice with no judicial experience whatsoever.
