Help stop the Public Options!

My Fellow Americans,

As true American patriots step up to help Health Care CEO's protect their dreams by defeating the Health Insurance Reform Public Option in Congress, isn't it time to turn our attention to the most insidious of all Socialistic Public Options?

I am talking about a Public Option that has plagued this country for generations, and even today, deprives fine corporations like Barnes and Nobles and Amazon of their rightful Free Market gains.

Yes, it's time to disband THE PUBLIC LIBRARY OPTION, a communistic plague on our nation's citizenry, a blight on our country and an outrage to our Founding Fathers desire to create the Capitalist paradise we see today exemplified by proud American MegaCorporations.

Even today, hundreds, nah, THOUSANDS of these dens of socialism are housed in almost every city, town and borough, a place where any average American citizen, regardless of their income status or their membership in an Evangelical Church can go and check out a library book...For FREE!

The outrage, think of all the money being deprived the rightful booksellers in the USA by this government run program. How can such an affront to the free market stand?

How many of our tax dollars are going to support these mental welfare palaces, when we could be spending them on military weapon systems we don't need or use, or giving even better Government sponsored health care programs to US Congressman  and Senators as they go about the process of depriving the US citizens of the same benefits.

We all know what a dismal failure Non-Free Market programs are, and surely this so called "PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM" is one of the most egregious examples of this blight on our proud American Heritage.

So, today, I urge you to write your congresscritters, especially if they are a Blue Dog Democrat or a Republican (hard to tell the difference, I will grant you) and tell them to

STOP THE PUBLIC OPTIONS, CLOSE DOWN THE AMERICAN PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM.

It's just the American thing to do!

yes, and also

Close the public swimming pools and golf courses, which provide unfair competition to country clubs.

The outrage of public sports fields

Why, right by the PUBLIC TENNIS COURTS my GF and I play on (commies that we are...) they used GOV fund, maybe even (oh my gawd, I can barely say it) some of the stimulus package to redo two soccer fields and a baseball diamond.

And, already, I see kids AND adults using them, getting EXERCISE and Fresh Air, probably drastically reducing future health care costs that will seriously impact the ability of Health Care Executives to buy new Mercedes for their trophy wives!

Shouldn't those American citizens be inside eating proccessed food from Archers Daniels Midlands and watching Faux News instead?  What will happen to the onset of early diabetes and other cronic health care issues if people actually get healthy???

This is government conspirarcy to rob corporate executives for the good of the American people!

I am OUTRAGED!

How much more can this socialist agenda from Obama destroy the very fabric of American society!!!!

Re: Help stop the Public Option!

My real problem is the fire department. Can anyone prove that we would not be better off privatizing this service? And please do not bring up things prior to the last 24 hours. That would a total waste of time, and completely irrelevant.

Re: Help stop the Public Options!

Umm... Don't joke... If public libraries were invented today, the entire publishing and entertainment industry would ban together to stop it... and they would probably win.

In fact, considering how ridiculously restrictive current intellectual property laws are today, there is absolutely no chance that something like a public library could have every been formed today.  Like Napster, they would have been sued out of existence.

Public libraries only continue to exist 'cos they make specific EXCEPTIONS for them in intellectual property law, and only because they've been around for a long time.

Re: Help stop the Public Options!

Well, they would probably lobby it out of existence.  They couldn't exactly sue it out of existence, since it's the government.

Yes, they have been stunningly successful

at stopping downloading, Digital Rights Management...

NOT!

The entire focus of those retrograde industries HAS been to try to force the genie back in the bottle.

I doubt very much, as you state, that in Ronald Reagans America (which is hopefully passing into memory, as the Millenials come to power) that a PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM would have flown in Congress.

However, that just means that an alternative system of media dissemination, such as underground KINDLES might have sprung up.

The book industry, not so much from competative pressure from the Public Option (I am being facetious of course in this diary) but from other past-times competiting for peoples interest.

A paperback book is probably one of the great bargains on the planet, in my opinion, at the current pricing scheme.

Compared to a crappy 10 dollar Hollywood movie?

No comparison there.

Re: Help!

OffTopic

I have not evolved to the stage where I can embed a YouTube video, so would someone more advanced (WSB perhaps) write a diary on this?

You're too late

We already have a Public Option. It's called the can on the counter at 7-11: "Help little Johnny get a new kidney".

You can "opt in" and throw in your change, or you can "opt out" and take your six-pack and leave.
