Richardson Dumps ActBlue

After noticing that Bill Richardson's ActBlue fundraising has remained stagnant for the past couple weeks, I thought I would go to his campaign's website and go through the contribution process.

When you select "contribute" on his website, it takes you to this url:

https:/secure.richardsonforpresident.co m/page/contribute

When you select "contribute" on the Edwards for President website, it takes you to:

https:secure.actblue.com/contribute/pa ge/johnedwards?refcode=sitenav&succe ssuri=http://www.johnedwards.com/action/contri bute/thank-you

The significance is that both Edwards and Richardson were the candidates using ActBlue as their internet fundraising engine.  Did Richardson decide that having his numbers published in a real-time manner was hurting his campaign?  Is it cheaper to use another fundraising source?  Is he using ActBlue but not giving credit on his site?  What's going on?

Update: KTatActBlue writes: Both Bill Richardson and John Edwards have used ActBlue to process contributions for their main webpages. John Edwards is continuing to use ActBlue as has been noted here on their main page while they also have their own system. Richardson moved off of using ActBue a few weeks ago though it is certainly open to his campaign and any campaign to restart or start using ActBlue at any time. We exist for the campaigns in whatever form they may wish to use us though we'd certainly love to be used be every campaign! by KTatActBlue on Mon Mar 12, 2007 at 12:59:08 PM EST

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

This is too bad. I want to support Richardson but he seems to have zero clue about how campaigns are run this millennium.

It was great to see him try to use actblue but just because his people didn't get the medium isn't a reflection upon the site.

He has huge potential that I would love to see him tap into.

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

So you agree it looks like they stopped using ActBlue?  he's only raised about $1,500 in the last two weeks on ActBlue.

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

I wish he had somebody who could come here and straighten us out. Either he made a poor decision or is raising crap online. Regardless, his campaign should be taken to task. He has an amazing resume, is a great Democrat -- from the West -- yet he seems to be surrounded by dipshits. I would like to be proven wrong because I want to believe.

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

The fact that this is the first recommended diary about Richardson I remember either here or at dKos is a pretty revealing fact.

Oh, well. Not that losing my support is a huge detriment to the campaign, but it's hard to stick with them when they look like they're running a campaign from 1999.

he's been on 288,000$$

for two weeks.

Also, the sunday Washington post said he raised over 300,000 online so something is definitely up with Richardson and ActBlue

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

Did you see him on CSPAN today, speaking to the College Dems at Drake in Iowa?

After seeing that, there is no way that I could support him, and he had been my #3 after Edwards being the top-choice and Obama being the #2.

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

It appears Edwards has direct contributions as well on his site. Is the processing done by ActBlue?

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

The NYT story on Edwards last Saturday quoted a campaign person saying that Edwards had raised $300K of "Coulter Cash" since Bonior's fundraising email.  During that week his ActBlue total went only from $1000K to $1060K.  This suggests that the campaign is raising a lot of money that isn't through ActBlue, but I'd love to have a definitive answer.

While the "contribute" button on the johnedwards.com main page goes to an ActBlue page, the "contribute" button on blog.johnedwards.com does not.

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

I just noticed that too.  The main contribution page on the Edwards site goes to ActBlue, the "Coulter Cash" link did not.

I wonder if the page was created simply to track the amount given directly for "Coulter Cash" or "Fox Attacks" cash rather than the donations that are normally coming in on the website.  And maybe ActBlue is still processing both campaigns entire fundraising operation.

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

I believe that it is what you said. the "coulter cash" goes to a seperate non Actblue link. I think the link to raise money to send cds to Iowa (in the email) also goes to a non actblue link.

But the mainfundraising on the website is still using ActBlue.

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

It probably is to track how much "Coulter Cash" he receives. I don't know if ActBlue can incorporate individualized, trackable links, without setting up a separate "Coulter Cash" ActBlue page.

I just noticed his Grassroots Fundraising system, with which supporters can set up their own fundraising pages. It does not seem to use ActBlue, either.

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

I was looking at Richardson as my #2 for a while, but after looking at him and his positions, he really isn't that progressive of a candidate.  He seems, by my estimation, closer to the center than most of the other candidates... which led me to settle on Edwards, lest Gore join in.

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

Did the contribution link on Richardson's site previously go to ActBlue? If so, and he then changed it to whatever system he uses now, then I can understand a problem. However, if his site never linked to ActBlue, is there a problem?

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

I can say yes with about a 90% confidence level, that his site used to link to ActBlue.

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

Pretty sure they had a customized ActBlue page (campaigns can do alot to customize off of ActBlue), but I am sure it used to have a tip jar for ActBlue on it. If it doesn't now, I'd wager strongly they aren't using it anymore.

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

Am I right that there's nothing stopping a Richardson supporter from donating to his campaign through ActBlue?  It's just that his campaign isn't pointing people there, and (as detailed above) hardly anybody is doing it.

Re: Did Bill Richardson Dump ActBlue?

Correct!

For clarity...

If a campaign is using ActBlue, there will be an ask for a tip :-)
