Obama Worries about Being Assasinated

Michelle and Barrack Obama have a sincere fear that he will be assasinated.

Sen. Barack Obama is concerned about his personal security --telling the Chicago Sun-Times editorial board Thursday that he and his wife fear there is a potential for violence -- even if he does not run for president. "Being shot, obviously, that is the least-attractive option," Obama said.

In the interview, he suggests he would need a formidable private security apparatus around him (you don't get Secret Service until you have the nomination locked up), which he is concerned will make him more unapproachable.

Hillary Clinton, too, has a constant security presence as a result of being a former First Lady and high profile senator.  She already has a reputation as being cold and distant, so the security bubble and lack of access to her won't damage her much.

How will this impact Obama's campaign?

That isn't true. The President decides which candidates get Secret Service protection. Bush 43 didn't give it to Kerry until March '04 because he's a childish bully.

After Paul Tsongas won the New Hampshire primary, he by no means had the nomination. But because the win boosted his profile, Bush 41 immediately assigned Secret Service to his family.

Of course assasination is a worry. I doubt it will affect his campaign. Now that he's in it, he's worked through those issues.

I'd be worried too if I were Obama. Some nut jobs aren't ready for a Black president and they will probably do anything to ensure that the rest of us never see one.

Its a sad thing to think about, but its saftey first.
I feel like the internet gives both of them the ability to connect with people in such new and exciting ways that the extra distance from the public wont be an issue.
2004 was the campaign of the blog, 2008 is looking the the campaign of the video...and both of them are so good, i want to watch them talk all day!

Re: Obama Worries about Being Assasinated

Black people in America know that the threat of death is a given when running for any level of political office.  Obama has already taken this into consideration.
