Jake and the Fat Man

Cross-posted at the MOOSE

OK . . . this diary isn't about that old TV show. It actually should read "Jake and the Old Man" . . . that old TV show just comes to mind any time I visit the blog of ABC's smart-ass, Jake Tapper.

I don't really like the guy (especially after he got all nicotine nazi on Obama), but I have to give him credit for throwing some sarcasm into his political blog. Today was classic:

Dear Senator McCain

September 12, 2008  3:25 PM

Here is Gov. Palin's list of earmark requests from February 2008.

Will you please stop telling the American people that she never asked for or received any pork barrel projects?

Respectfully,

Jake

Re: i have a tip...

Agreed. We need to get the media to focus on the issues (will that ever happen?), and call out the GOP tactics like Tapper did.

Re: i have a tip...

Half agree.  I think that, yes, Obama should focus on McCain.  However, it's an error not to point out that Palin is part of the lie perpetuating machine.  She lies, he lies, they all lie.  What's so Maverick-y about that?  It's an inroad to be made, an argument to be expanded upon.

Re: i have a tip...

I don't get what you're saying CG, is calling out a McCain lie about his VP wrong??

This question is not snarky or meant to cause any flame, etc. I really don't understand your tip, and appreciate your answer.

no framing it that way is perfect.

most of the other shit that poisoned the net in recent weeks is not.  and well - to be frank backfired big time.

some of us heeded warning that much of the discussion was... well unseemly, but that didnt matter much and we heard stories of babies, bad mothers, trailer trash etc.  and i can honestly believe that some of the poll numbers reflect and reaction to that.

so to answer your question - focus on mccain and frame the criticism in that way would be a better strategy.

holy crap.

sorry for all the typos.

thank you for replying

Yea, I felt kinda odd too when people talked about her Down Syndrome Baby and other criticisms that were just not topical... I believe that people should hold their tongues and pick their cues from the Obama campaign, rather than go off on their own and hurt Obama as many clearly did when Palin was unveiled.

To add on to your answer CG, since you're a democrat, you can help frame the criticism that some people here make that just aren't helpful.

I mean I didn't see any clear pork as it is generally understood.

The point is that the Media needs to lead their..

Evening News Broadcasts with stuff like this and not just stick on a blog. LOL! Nothing against blogs but why isn't this the LEAD political story? When Barack  went overseas I will never forget Charlie Gibson opening his newscast with "Is Barack Obama presumptous & arrogant?" WTF?  They open with a McCain talking point crap and people often just watch the first few minutes of the evening news and don't read the blogs.

Call the News Execs people! McCain-Palin is far more Neo-Con crazy than Bush-Cheney!
