A Proposal to fight Wage Slavery

This idea has certainly been talked about before, but I don't see why it hasn't been seriously proposed.  I see it as a clear way that the Dems can generate a concrete proposal to take a stance on outsourcing.

The idea is that there should be a proposed law requiring the manufacturers of any product to place on the label of said product a notification of the total man-hours required to manufacture the product and the average wage per hour paid during the manufacture of the product. [more below fold]

First, this is information that the manufacturer already has.  You can't run a business without knowing what your cost margins are, and how to calculate your profit margins.  Second, this would empower the consumer to avoid products made under wage-slave type conditions.  Third, it allows those companies paying a fair wage a forum to proudly advertise that they do so.  Fourth, it would be difficult for Republicans to oppose this measure.  The most they could say is that the numbers would be mainuplated and not accurate.  Finally, it would allow the Dems to gain the upper hand on this issue, as Bush seems to drift closer and closer to corporate America.

Difficult to oppose, yes.
But they'd find a way to do it.

Personally, I like the idea. We'd need to start by finding a politician who likes it, too. Anyone have any ideas?

never gonna happen
Big Business and the GOP (is there a difference?) would slam it as 'unneccesary regulation', come out with some fudged numbers about how it will increase costs, and, to be honest, most people wouldn't read it anyway.

We need to enforce a World mininum Wage
for outsourced companies so that we don't exploit
poverty.

Agreed.  That's why we need to get the world out to people in the states about what some people are actually getting paid.  Particularly for making $60.00 gap jeans

It would be interesting to show a pair of Gap jeans,
and show who gets what percentage - CEO, middle management, laborer and materials
