A NATION OF EXAGGERATORS: Quit Doling Out That Bad-Economy Line.

please please hear what I have to say, I woke up this morning, saw the Lehman brothers worries, Merill Lynch is being sold to BoA, and we have no clue what is happening to AIG yet.

but before I could start to worry I saw that  Donald Luskin a McCain advisor had a new op-ed out titled

"Quit Doling Out That Bad-Economy Line."

What the new meme should be "distractions, not solutions"

so Nate over at fivethirtyeight.com hits it. Obama needs to start on his counter-narrative

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/09/l ipstick.html

My opponent's chief strategest just said, "this campaign isn't about the issues." Well, I've got news for you, America. The Republican Party is desperate. They are going to do anything to try and hold onto their power, because they know the damage they've done to our country, and they don't know how to fix it. They know that people are out of work, and they don't know how to help them. They know that people are dying because they don't have health insurance, and they don't know to save them. They know that families are struggling to put food on the table, and they know don't know how to provide for them.

So they're going to try and distract you, America, because that's the only thing they know how to do. They're going to try and scare you. They're going to try and tell you stories, instead of offering solutions. And yes, folks -- these are the same people that have been lying to you for the last eight years -- and they're going to lie to you again.

Okay, so I'm not Jon Favreau. But I think something along these lines would be toward the more effective end of Obama's potential post-convention messaging. And the "distractions, not solutions" meme is something Obama is going to have to trot out anyway once the 527's (including very probably the reincarnation of Jeremiah Wright) really begin to hit.

I think it high time the left blogs worked together more often to help push a narrative and this is it.

where ever you go, where ever you blog its time we got the message out and we get people talking about it all the GOP offer are distractions, not solutions

spread the word.

Begun The Culture Wars Have

The issues debate is dead. John McCain and the Republicans cannot win on issues and they will not allow this race to focus on them. Until the debates at least, we need to wake up and realize that trying to get this campaign back to issues is neigh impossible when the Republicans are out to fight the culture wars again.

As J.Martin over at Politico notes:

On the first count, they've plainly made a decision with regard to their ads that the naysaying of impartial fact-checkers and reporters is far less important with under 60 days than the political benefit of driving their preferred (if factually-shaky) message and inviting Obama into a tit-for-tat on that same turf.

So, yes, they'll claim Palin killed the Bridge to Nowhere -- it only invites a discussion about spending and earmarks. And, yes, they'll accuse Obama of wanting to teach sex ed to Kindergartners -- it only invites a discussion on a topic Obama isn't likely to win and which, more important, shifts the campaign away from a debate about education policy, on which Democrats typically fare better.

And as we can see this morning, Obama's lipstick on the pig comment the GOP does not want a discussion on issues.

This race will be the nastiest yet, the GOP wants to win, and they will play dirty, and has we have seen with voting purges already, they will play extremely dirty.

indeed as the Obama campaign pointed out, John McCain couldn't answer what Honor is, and now we know why.

John McCain you POW or not, you have lost your Honor.

McCain Legally NOT on Texas Ballot?

quick diary, but check out Bob Barr's site, it seems since both Obama and McCain chose their running mates so late, they both did not register for the Texas ballot in time. Bob Barr is now trying to get the state to offically recognize that both men cannot legally be on the Texas Ballot!

the diary,

This evening I received a response from the Texas Secretary of State's office to my request for the certification papers of both John McCain and Barack Obama.

The certification deadline which passed at 5 p.m. on August 26th - before the nomination of Barack Obama and even before John McCain selected a running mate - was clearly missed by both major party candidates.

Our campaign manager, Russell Verney, transmitted a letter to the Secretary of State's office this evening after we obtained the documents which you can view here.

In the letter, we made our stance clear:

The Democratic Party, and Mr. Obama and the Republican Party and Mr. McCain blatantly ignored the Texas statutory deadline.

Therefore, the Libertarian candidate for president, Bob Barr, as represented by his principal campaign committee, Bob Barr 2008, demands that your office keep the names of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, John McCain and Sarah Palin off the Texas general election ballot.

Failure of the Secretary of State to comply with Texas law will result in serious legal consequences.

Please take a look at the attachments linked above, give us a hand in getting this story out.

I agree this story needs to get out, if John McCain did not file in time then he should NOT be on that Ballot and unless the story gets out you know the GOP will use under handed tricks to get him on.

If you are still talking about Palin, Do you not want to Win?

Slowly the CW is spreading, but it is a bit sad that people haven't taken the cue from Obama.

when asked about Palin what did he do? well as MSNBC: noted

Obama and his surrogates have repeatedly argued that McCain does not understand the economy in general and that the Republican convention this week was ignoring economic issues. The senator has been saying for weeks that he is best-suited to tackle the problems hardworking families are facing.

exactly they put it back to Obama vs. McCain.

we play into McCain's hands when blogs use front page posts about Palin. I think we did our job the press and the public know there are questionsto ask about Palin. Time for us to get back to our main job.

Palin: Did she just lose them the election?

now now before you troll me here me out, I know things can change and I ensure you they will have to try and rebrand her again. But as it is right now she just lost them the election.

First they lead into her with Romney and Rudy, basically putting the country on notice, We Are Republicans And We Mean Business.
They GOP is basically telling us now, that the culture wars are back and they mean it.

Then they go into the prime time hour, the thing millions of American's are going to see, is nothing but Rudy and Palin non-stop attacking democrats and anyone who is NOT a Republican.
And Rudy really screwed it up, because he ran long and they didn't play her video. Her Video was suppose to make America fall in love with her, anyone remember, Michelle's, Hillary's, Joes, and Obama's from last week? They NEEDED that video tonight to introduce her, espeically if this was how she was going to come out. She gave no substance, nothing but attacks, she showed us she was a hard right Republican, and she means business.

Now her base loved it. she is getting rave reviews from the right. This from redstate.com says it all "Sarah Palin. An Amazing, Historic, Epic Win." but here is the problem. In their sheer hubris is all I can say, they seem to think that they are still the majority in this country. What they are ignoring is they are turning off every non-republican in this country. Since the convention and Sarah's introduction, Obama has taken the lead in independents and increased his Democratic numbers.

The GOP has seem to have forgotten that Sarah was suppose to reach out to independents and the frustrated Hillary supporters, because there aren't enough GOP voters anymore their party numbers are down. but instead they are now stuck with the 2004 strategy of excite the base and get out to vote.

But this is not 2004. This time Democrats are the better organized ones, and its well known McCain's ground game in states is actually pretty lacking.  And there are now more Democrats then Republicans, and with Independents now turned off by the hard right turn of the ticket, where are they going to get enough base voters?

Gov. Palin excites the base, indeed, but in doing so she is turning off Independents, and uniting the Democrats, and if we outnumber them and have the better ground game, and McCain is now picking a fight with the media...

Did Palin just cost McCain this election?

but that's just my opinion, whats yours?

Palin almost recalled as Mayor

ok so there is a 2nd abuse of power story out there, and with the current one, I think this is important because it shows she does have a history of this sort of thing.

as this blog notes: http://hatthief.blogspot.com/2008/08/vet ting-sarah-palin-irl-stambaugh-walt.html

in 1996 Palin fired the Police Chief and Library Director

Wasilla Mayor Sarah Palin fired the city's police chief and the library director without warning Thursday, accusing them of not fully supporting her efforts to govern. Irl Stambaugh and Mary Ellen Emmons said letters signed by Palin were dropped on their desks Thursday afternoon telling them their jobs were over as of Feb. 13 and that they no longer needed to report to work.

reading the blog it seems the not fully supporting meant, they supported her rival for mayor, the police chief sued, but Palin won, not that she didn't fire him for not supporting her, but that as Mayor she could fire for ANY reason she wanted.

But Singleton said that under state law, police chiefs serve at the behest of the mayor unless otherwise specified by city ordinance. Stein, the former mayor, had worked out an agreement with Stambaugh forbidding termination without cause, but the city council never voted on it, Singleton ruled.

seriously can this woman please sit down for an interview and answer some questions, because if this is also true, she now has a pattern of abusing her power for personal reasons, and I do NOT want someone like that in my White House,

but that's my opinion, whats yours?

Sorry guys, Palin is right....

I am sorry but over the last few days I have had a 2nd thought, and I think Palin is a great choice, listen she was Gov. of Alaska for 18 months, and thats all you need, and she is the Commander of the Alaska National Guard,

and sure there is this
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/31 /alaska-national-guard-gen_n_122860.html

Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell, adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard, considers Palin "extremely responsive and smart" and says she is in charge when it comes to in-state services, such as emergencies and natural disasters where the National Guard is the first responder.

But, in an interview with The Associated Press on Sunday, he said he and Palin play no role in national defense activities, even when they involve the Alaska National Guard. The entire operation is under federal control, and the governor is not briefed on situations.

but fellow democrats, I think its time we all stand up and just admit Sarah Palin is right, especially when she says THE WAR WAS FOR OIL.

over at Thinkprogress.org

In a recent BusinessWeek interview, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) admitted that she believes the Iraq war was fought because of oil:

We are a nation at war and in many [ways] the reasons for war are fights over energy sources, which is nonsensical when you consider that domestically we have the supplies ready to go.

and their update

In a recent BusinessWeek interview, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) admitted that she believes the Iraq war was fought because of oil:

We are a nation at war and in many [ways] the reasons for war are fights over energy sources, which is nonsensical when you consider that domestically we have the supplies ready to go.

so please, its time to let our conservative brothers and all americans know that Conservatives are right, she is WELL qualifed to be VP, and if she says the war was for Oil, who are we to argue with that?

BREAKING: McCain Campaign heading to Alaska to investigate

so in order to get to know Gov. Palin better I am surfing local AK blogs, they live there day to day and so they are more familiar with her and where the story is and I found this story,

A very reliable source overheard Republican spokesperson McHugh Pierre state TODAY that he had spoken to the McCain Campaign. They are coming to Alaska tomorrow to check out the "Troopergate" investigation.

I think people miss the story here, Biden was selected because of Obama's perceived experience weakness, Americans wanted him to have a good back up and someone who could help him.

McCain is 72, and THIS is his replacement? someone he never even vetted? and this is putting country first?

because of this pick McCain's age is on the table in way like never before, OFCOURSE we have a duty to ask whether a 72 year old can realistically serve as president, and we ALL have a vested interest to have a good #2 set. Obama did that, McCain not so much.

I am literally still amazed by this pick, and I hope people in Alaska keep following this for the rest of us
