WVA is in play, Palin to tour West Virgina

I know we were all wondering about that ARG, poll but wonder no more Sarah Palin is going to West Virgina

In what may be another signal that the troubled economy is forcing John McCain's campaign to play electoral map defense, Sarah Palin has scheduled a bus tour for Sunday through West Virginia, a state that's been leaning red throughout this presidential race.

Palin had already scheduled a bus tour of Pennsylvania on Saturday, but she will now repeat that act on Sunday by making various unannounced stops throughout West Virginia, culminating in a campaign event in southeast Ohio. It's a swing geographically reminiscent of Hillary Clinton's effort during the Democratic primary to court white working class voters in Appalachia. Clinton won the West Virginia primary over Barack Obama by a whopping 67-26 margin.

Surveys of West Virginia voters this year have consistently favored McCain, but state polls have closed in recent weeks as the global financial crisis has dominated the headlines. A CNN/Time poll conducted in late September showed McCain with a slight 50-46 lead over Obama, and an ARG poll released this week suggested Obama had rocketed to an eight-point over his Republican rival.

we may not win the state, but just even going there means they are paying for the travel and such, and thats all cash they aren't spending else where.

their resource allocation this past week has been whack, ignoring tight states in favor of double digits states.

either their internals are all screwed or.... I dunno.

Oh, I guess they did do OH and now WV, but seriously PA, WI, MN, IA?

My random guess... they are trying to say on fuel/travel costs

I put West Virginia, Indiana, North Carolina, and Missouri in the toss-up column.  Obama is already taking the latter three seriously, but West Virginia is entirely winnable.  Gore only came up short by 4%.

Re: WVA is in play, Palin to tour West Virgina

the issue is not that they are "paying for travel" but that they are spending their time in these places... time they dearly wish they could spend elsewhere....

I think you might be surprised. It might get ugly for Palin. There are a lot of coal miners and poor people in West Virginia. And, they might not be taking to cordial to the Republicans this year. There was already a previous mine shutdown in favor of Obama as a protest. This might get ugly, but in ways you would not assume.

Re: WVA is in play,

A bus tour?? She's going to spend the ENTIRE DAY there? Someone tell her that if she wants to spend the week, I'll buy her gas.

Re: WVA is in play, Palin to tour West Virgina
Do you know for the first time since the election started, I actually saw Obama ads on TV last night from a station out of Wichita, Kansas.
First political ads I've seen, except for a couple of Pat Roberts ads (blech).
Obama ads in Kansas. I never thought I'd see the day.

Re: WVA is in play, Palin to tour West Virgina

I guess there comes a point in time during a losing campaign when you've gotta just stand and fight, regardless of how hopeless it looks. As election day draws closer and closer, there are only so many states that McCain can pull out of, and still have any hope of winning. At this point, if he pulled the plug on all the states he is lagging behind in, he would only be playing for about 185 electoral votes. That isn't going to get the job done; so I suspect that is what we are seeing here. McCain is down in so many places now, his dart board is about as good a strategy-maker as anything. And so the noose gets a little tighter....

and one debate to go.  I"m feeling confident our party will be in charge, in the worst time the country has been in.  I think lots of McCain voters will stay home, he's depressing them, and it's hard to wake up and comb your hair even when you're depressed. Hate isn't good for digestion either.  What're rollaids trading at?
