I expect Palin to throw a lot of one liners. She's got to hope she wins the soundbite war. A lot of people will watch the debate, but more will watch just what gets replayed on the news. If Palin gets off some cute folksy lines that monopolize the news coverage, she wins. It won't matter what else happened at the debate. Short of a huge Biden gaffe, this is the best she can hope for.
I agree totally with that. He is getting worse. Add this to his temper tantrum yesterday and some other appearances lately and I personally think he's burning out. I think somebody's slipping him uppers to keep him standing. If you look at his daily schedule he's doing half the appearances Obama is, but still I think it's taking its toll. Really not surprising given his age. It's actually a tribute to him that he's kept it up this long.
Biden gets picked up on his every gaffe, and he usually laughs it off. The FDR on TV thing has gotten a thousand times more play than it deserves. He messed up, mentally thinking depression-FDR-communicator and leading him to say TV. So what. To think that Biden doesn't know that FDR didn't go on TV or who was President in 1929 is ridiculous.
As for the helicopter, though Biden is technically right, he should have specified his copter was forced down by weather and not enemy action and he should be criticized for that, and in fact is. In fact, I just saw CNN criticize him for it two minutes ago.
How about something positive about your candidate, Sen. McCain?
The only way this doesn't happen is if McCain says, "No. If I'm going to lose this I'm going to lose it with some honor." (Stop laughing!) I know that's not likely, so time to oil up the armor.
I think it will have effect, but I'm hoping that their desperation will look bad. I'm also hoping and assuming that the Obama campaign is ready for this. I'm actually more worried about the Bradley effect, and I won't feel comfortable until the polls say Barack's up by double digits.
No. You misinterpret my point. This is the text that SNL put pretty much verbatim into the Tina Fey sketch last weekend. I thought you knew. Look it up if you haven't seen it. Hilarious. Somebody even ran the two speeches side by side if you can find that.
