certainly, it seems to me that the right is throwing the kitchen sink at Obama, hurling any nasty word at him regardless of the definition. Socialist, Marxist, Fascist...As a result, they've lost all meaning, except as a nasty epithet that people can hurl at him as an apparently acceptable placeholder for something else they'd no doubt much prefer to call him.
his shout out in the inaugural address was huge. as Bill Maher notes in Religulous, non-believers make up a larger segment of the population than many groups that have powerful lobbies in Washington. Obama's words are little steps toward destigmatization and ultimately having an influence in the public debate that is consistent with our significant % of population.
Yeah, they think they're on solid ground here with the "it's the policies I want to fail, not the president" but imagine if we had said that suring the Bush years. all they did was demonize the left as anti-American and now they give Republicans a pass for hoping the American president's policies fail. such cognitive dissonance is not surprising, of course, it's their life blood.
