Whitey Tape Found! Update X2

Well folks we've managed to track down the most damaging piece of video tape ever produced about a presidential candidate.

The source of the rumor, of course is Jarry Lohnson (jack-ass extraordinaire). And Jarry claims he hasn't seen the tape, simply heard of it... so where-o-where did he hear of it from?

Let's turn to our friends the folks in the right-wing blogasphere for the answer.

Today NRO reports:
http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/p ost/?q=Mzc3ZWNhNThmM2JhMzliZDUxMWNmMmU5M 2ZiNmM1YTY=

Sometimes, this rumor of this alleged tape of Michelle Obama denouncing "whitey" sounds like something out of a clichéd political thriller novel.

You don't say... it does seem a bit contrived... hmmm.

Actually, it sounds exactly like something out of a clichéd political thriller novel. Specifically, Stephen Frey's The Power Broker, published in 2006 by Ballantine Books.
http://www.amazon.com/Power-Broker-Novel -Stephen-Frey/dp/0345480619/ref=pd_bbs_s r_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=12127787 35&sr=8-2

Hmm, we're intrugued, but how does that relate to our current situation?

A major plot line of the novel is the presidential campaign of Democrat Jesse Wood, aiming to be the country's first African American president -- "Wood was handsome, smart, charismatic, and being mentioned increasingly often in the press as someone who could unite a twenty-first century America growing more, not less, racially and economically divided." (p.35)

You don't say! Wow... sounds familiar... what happens to this Jesse Woods?

And by page 130, his opponents find a videotape that could ruin his candidacy...

The camera focused on Wood, who was standing with Clarence Osgood, Stephanie Childress, and another man.

...
There was more muffled chatter, then Wood held his hands up.

He said, "You know, I had to put up with so much crap from Whitey when I was playing tennis back in the day, it was ridiculous. Real bullshit stuff, too. Tennis racquets busted while I was in the shower, no towels, the worst locker, called nigger all the time, even by the help." He looked over at Osgood. "I'm telling you, Clarence, if I get elected president, I'm gonna act the way I'm supposed to act in front of the camera. Smile and dance like a good black man, do what I'm expected to do like a good boy. But behind the scenes, I'll fuck Whitey, and I'll fuck him good, I really will."

Wow... that sounds exactly like what Jarry Lohnson said Michelle Obama said on a tape. A tape he still can't produce... why is it that he can't produce the tape again? And what about in the book?

Later the tape is used for blackmail by an ally, and then the real badguy -- a Texan who owns a giant oil company named Hewitt (sorry, Hugh) -- gets his hands on the tape. The description of the appropriate timing of the release of the videotape on p. 237 will sound familiar to those tracking the rumors of the alleged Michelle Obama tape.
Hewitt thought for a second. "I'm going to let Jesse win the nomination and let the public get used to him as the Democratic candidate. Give the country some time to get to know Jesse Wood, to start to like him. And they will because he's a very likable guy. Then I'm going to drop the bomb, after everyone's started to like him. That way the clip will have maximum effect and people will be as angry as they can be. Whites and blacks. Whites for the obvious reason, blacks because they'll feel like he let `em down."

Hmmm... that story sounds really familiar. Sounds like Jarry Lohnson has been letting his night time reading go to his head.

So why does our political enemy feel the need to point out the idiocy of certain pro-Hillary blogger's desperate wishful thinking? Could it be for the benefit of the democratic party?

Why is a conservative blogger putting this much effort into dispelling a rumor that, on paper at least, would hurt Obama? Because those who prefer a president besides Obama should not go through the summer and fall convinced that a magic-bullet devastating tape is going to appear as an October surprise to save the day.

There you have it... a right wing blogger showing more common sense than the crew at certain pro-Hillary blogs.

Update [2008-6-6 15:52:58 by Tatan]:A commenter would like for Senator Obama to deny these rumors... apparently the complete lack of ANY evidence is not enough. Ok... well here is your denial:

“We have seen this before. There is dirt and lies that are circulated in e-mails and they pump them out long enough until finally you, a mainstream reporter, asks me about it.”

http://thepage.time.com/2008/06/06/obama-denies-rumor-of-wife-using-derogatory-remark/

Democrats used to be better than the people who are now wallowing in this mud. Let's get out of the gutter myDD.

Update [2008-6-6 15:52:58 by Tatan]: Politicsmatters points to the fact that we've seen this before... as yet another right-wing blogger says:This is the '08 version of a really weird conservative urban legend that pops up every four years, The names change, but the basics remain the same: 1) It always involves the wife of the Democratic presidential candidate; 2) It always portrays the wife -- not the candidate -- committing some anti-American, unpatriotic act. I was first exposed to this during the 1988 campaign when the line was, "There's a picture out there of Kitty Dukakis burning the American flag...just wait til that comes out..." (that one got out of hand when a GOP senator actually believed it and called a press conference to say he would soon produce the evidence -- which never materialized). Four years later, "There's a picture out there of Hillary Clinton burning the American flag...just wait 'til that comes out..." In 1996, the Hillary thing repeated itself. In '04, there was a similar one about Teresa Heinz Kerry.http://raggedthots.blogspot.com/2008/06/michelle-farrakhan-sitting-in-treenot.html

This did seem eerily familiar. Anyone thinking of spreading this ridicoulus false rumor should take a good hard look in the mirror and think about what they've become. Even the right-wing nutjobs think this is pathetic.

A must-read debunking of the smear:

http://www.reason.com/blog/show/126883.h tml

This guy really demolishes Johnson, far better than the NRO story.

This should be the point at which Johnson's little blog career implodes and is gone without a trace. He has utterly and completely humiliated himself. If you read the excepts in the link, it's not even that Johnson merely suggested he had heard of the tape...he makes it seem as though he had actually heard the tape.

I've tried to put my head in the sand about Johnson, mostly because of appreciation for his past efforts on Plamegate. But he has truly revealed himself to be an unredeemable, crypto-racist, worthless piece of maggoty shit.

Re: Whitey Tape Found!

I have no idea if the tape exists, but the transcript that was tossed around last week came a pro-Obama blogger offering a preemptive defense ("whitey" v. "why'd he"):

http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2008/ 6/1/235757/2325

"From what I understand, it is a tape of Michelle Obama criticizing the Bush administration."

I am in no way pushing this story, but where did booman get his transcript?

Re: Whitey Tape Found!

Ok, but again: booman is pro-Obama and seems to indicate that someone with knowledge of the tape offered up a innocent explanation for what Larry Johnson reported.

I suspect booman's innocent interpretation is correct. But it sure sounds like there is a tape.

by ryeland 2008-06-06 12:02PM | 0 recs
Re: Whitey Tape Found!

If there was a tape... an a pro-obama outlet had it... they would have released it along with the explanation so as to prevent it from having any impact. That's PR 101. You win the spin when you control the story.

Re: Whitey Tape Found!

Have you paid attention as to why this would make absolutely no since.  First, unless Michelle Obama was an a blacksploitation film or on the Jeffersons in the 70s, the chances of her using the term whitey are very slim.  As a forty year old African American, the only person I have ever heard use the term whitey is George Jefferson.   Secondly, it is highly unlikely for an Ivy school graduate to construct a sentence as gramatically incorrect as "Why'd he do nothing about Jena?". And speaking of Jena, the Jena 6 issue became national in 2008.  I dont think Michelle took time off the campaign trail to talk about "whitey" or "why'd". It all just defies logic.

This is quite funny

The irony though is that MANY things this primary season have proven that fact CAN be as strange as fiction... so I wouldn't count out tapping into much more insanity and intrigue between now and November.

We've all been LIVING clichéd political thriller novel for quite awhile.

I never would have believed the Rev Wright tapes until I saw them either. You couldn't have written a better antagonist to Obama's message of "hope and unity" than Rev Wright. Seriously, Rev Wright's denouement rants were comically un-unifying.

A writer would have been challenged to create a more gripping plot-line frankly.

by twinmom 2008-06-06 11:30AM | 0 recs
I always get a "set up" vibe from that

There was just something so sketchy about Wright's appearences that week.  I mean, he was out of the public eye for months, and then all of a sudden a media blitz.

Then he actually made reference to "playing the dozens," which in some circles is basically a challenge to one-up you.

It's like he knew that he was going to be a problem for Obama going forward, so he very kindly provided the reason for Obama to break with him publically.

Of course, what would blow my theory all to hell is if he actually does come out with some sort of tell-all book before the election.

by Dracomicron 2008-06-06 12:02PM | 0 recs
This diary is nonsense

I could find a novel for pretty much ANY political situation. The scenario in that book is similiar to the tape rumors, but so what? I fail to see the point of this diary. I still find it strange that Obama hasn't denied the tape's existence. hmmm......

If a video is shown at some point, It will be sad to see how the koolaid drinkers spin it.

Re: This diary is nonsense

Here's why this is arguably different. Black people outside of fictional creations do not go around ranting about "whitey." Certainly not Princeton/Harvard-educated wives of political candidates at public events.

Ummm...

"Black people outside of fictional creations do not go around ranting about 'whitey'."

I'll grant you that Michelle Obama (hopefully) doesn't have a reverse-racist rant on tape somewhere... but your statement sounds like you've been asleep for the past 3 months.

maybe "white boy" ;)

by NeciVelez 2008-06-06 03:11PM | 0 recs
Wright wouldn't say that

Wright isn't into racial slurs, he's into conspiracy theories about the government (which happens to mostly be white people).

If he ever used the term "whitey," it would be in a scholarly construct, talking about slurs.

Dude has like four or five degrees.

by Dracomicron 2008-06-06 12:06PM | 0 recs
Re: Wright wouldn't say that

I agree. I would characterize Wright's error as conspiritorial victimhood, which is very different than racism.

by DPW 2008-06-06 12:09PM | 0 recs
Re: Wright wouldn't say that

Conspiractal victimhood, that is, for what it's worth, largely understandable if you consider the US Government's past, proven history of:

- Flooding the black areas of New Orleans for benefit of the White areas

  • Letting black men spread and die of disease for academic purposes
  • Conspiring to keep crimes against them unpoliced and unjudged
  • Ignoring whole segments of the constitution against them (voting, due process, etc.)

Also, it was a single  F'ing sermon. Can you imagine if the entire body of your work was combed over, one clip was replayed a million times-- BY SEAN HANNITY -- and the rest of those foobs villified you as worse than that guy who got us involved in a war over lies?

Good Lord, if I were Wright, I rail against Whitey every damn day.

All the guy ever did was serve his country, offer medical care to a president, and minister to a community the rest of the nation (and most of the people here) would lock their doors if they drove near. But yeah, he said something you thought was MEEAN'N'NASTY so let's hate on him more.

Leave Wright Alone. I understand that Obama has to move on. But the primary's over. Leave that claptrap to Bushlovers.

Re: This diary is nonsense

Maybe you didn't believe it but don't speak for the rest of us.

I lived in Chicago and I've been to one of the major black churches there.  Many of the large black churches have controversial and highly political pastors.  It's not really all that shocking.  Actually I would have thought it odd if Obama went to a church where the pastor wasn't controversial.

Oh, and it would be really great if people could stop calling Rev. Wright a racist.  That's simply not true.

by Tenafly Viper 2008-06-06 12:08PM | 0 recs
There's a difference

The video was out there (heck, ABC bought it from TUCC's website, I think) and people knew that Wright was a little much.  Hannity had been after him awhile.

It just took ABC (the new FOX) splicing the clips together to make it a big deal.

This?  Nobody credible really thinks that Michelle would say something like that.

Re: Whitey Tape Found!

Just to keep this short, I'll refer to Michelle's rant as White Man Discourse, or WMD.

I think what happened was that Mohammad el-Baradi was in cohoots with Michelle Obama and used his powers at the IAEA to slow down inspection of the tape for the alleged WMD.  This bought Michelle Obama enough time to coordinate with the Black Panthers to have the WMD buried in the desert in Syria.  I think it's a trick so that she can pull out the WMD at some later date for maximum psychological damage on the White Mans.

Whitey's on the Moon

There's a great video of Barach, Hillary, Michelle and Bill performing the song "Whitey's on the Moon."

Barach and Michelle handle the vocals, Hillary is on the bongos and Bill plays some stinging Sax.

Barach: "40 million people in poverty"
Michelle: "And whitey's is on the moon"
Barach: "Gas priced are going through the roof"
Michelle: "And whitey's on the moon"

Bill and Hillary in Afro garb. Hillary hides behind dark shades, no smile. Bill in the corner in the back, economically playing stinging licks.

Barach and Michelle staring into each others eyes as they trade more lines:

Barach: "Poor children with no healthcare"
Michelle: "And white's on the moon"

Yoko Ono sits naked with her legs crossed on the floor. "Yes we can" is finger painted all over her body.

It's a very entertaining video, you should check it out.

I wonder whether anyone took the trouble to do a bit of surfing of the The Corner over at NRO. These folks are losing it completely, the comment on this tape was a welcome bit of sanity but overall these folks are completely out to lunch. How long before Lowry, who is essentially a careerist rather than a nut case, jumps ship. Goldberg however, who is also a careerist shows every sign of sticking with wing nuttery for the rest of his life. He is a really very nasty bit of work. Genetic I suppose.

Surfing - anthropological research

I spent the better (or worse depending on how you look at it) part of this afternoon finally taking the time to drop in to some of the more infamous sites I've heard mentioned here, but have never visited.

Very strange tribes. Probably the most interesting was a group of shoe fetishists for Hillary:

http://www.hireheels.com/index2.html

filled with strange anti-Obama chants and rants.

Next stop was Riverdaughter:
who has declared herself a cult  of the New Democrats for McCain, though anti-Republican.  She has founded an  extra-terrestrial movement called "The Confluence", and a new Political party called "PUMAs. Meaning: Party Unity My Ass"

http://riverdaughter.wordpress.com/

Curiouser and curiouser...

Then I slogged on to NoQuarter where surprise surprise, the headlined post was by TexasDarlin who I have had the misfortune to meet here:

http://noquarterusa.net/blog/

I truly felt like a stranger in a strange land.

Last stop was Hillaryis44 and several of it's spawn, but the pink was making me a bit nauseous - reminded me of the Pepto-Bismol I was spoon fed as a child.

Interesting to note the kinship ties between and among these tribes.  They seem to be endogamous (in-marriage) since I found some of the same tribal members at each location.

Or at least part of the same clan.

Exhausted by all this exposure to strange pathogens I retreated, after thoroughly smudging myself with sage, to ward off evil.

Stopped in here and found this diary and decided to stay and read awhile.   Phew.

Back in civilization. Strenuous day for an old lady.  But quite an eye-opening experience.

Perhaps I can round up a hoodoo man or an exorcist   to bring along with me on my next expedition.  Their services are sorely needed.

Please pass me some mojo.  I'm drained.

Re: Surfing - anthropological research

In all seriousness here's an insightful cultural comment on the subject, in the context of political discipline which I diarised recently:

The presumption by so many Americans ... that their precious sense of "individuality" gives them the 24 hour right to use all public forums as personal therapy sessions to vent and inflict their every perceived psychological misery upon others is a big part of what has made serious political movements in the US impossible for so long. Anybody that has attended a political "meeting" at which there was a "decision making process" has seen the tyranny of the individual crash down upon the collective imperative again and again. "Acting out" - without discipline nor regard for the hijacking nature of such behavior - had become considered a sacrament, rather than the sabotage that it was and is.

Al Giordano - No More Drama The Field 5 Jun 08

Too true.  And part of the reason the blogosphere hasn't been as effective a tool for 'movement' politics in the past as one might have expected.

For the THIRD time

Comparing this story to a novel does nothing to dispel the rumors. You can find ANY novel for certain political situation.

And if you Obama trolls hide this comment again, I'm sending your names to Jerome.

MyDD is about free speach, I'm not troll-rating you, so why are you disrepsecting me? Strange, considering that I'm a Clinton supproter who is fully behind BO against McCain.

by Chelsea in 2020 2008-06-06 12:26PM | 0 recs
Sure you are.

I just find it interesting that you don't deny being a troll.  That's all I'm saying.  MyDD is about free speech.

I'm troll rating you

for spamming the diary. You posted the same comment three times and have added nothing the discussion. If that's not being a troll then what is? Any if you want to take this to the admin's attention... that's a debate I would be thrilled to have.

Spam?

What a joke. So having a counter opinion is what you consider spam. Funny, you can't actually argue my point, so you hide my comment.

And yes, I would LOVE for the admins to see the rating abuse in this diary, especially considering that Jerome has already spoken about NOT doing this to posters.

That's not a

reason to keep reposting something. That's why we have the uprating system. If something is hide rated unfairly other people will uprate you with a 1 or 2... so that your comment is visible again (like I did with a 1). That's how the ratings system works. Reposting the same thing over and over again (always slipping in a  nasty name or insult in the process, btw) is spamming. Plain and simple.

by Tatan 2008-06-06 12:44PM | 0 recs

I'm simply expressing a counter-

opinion to yours.  Yeesh, take a pill.

"Argue against your point?"  So far you've said two distinct things:

  • The reason.com article has the facts wrong.  (You wouldn't follow up to say which.)
  • You find it interesting that Senator Obama hasn't denied this.  (He also hasn't denied being an axe murderer; let's pressure him to come clean on that too.)

Come on, you're a trolly wolly.  Whether you think so or not.

by McNasty 2008-06-06 12:39PM | 0 recs
Re: I'm simply expressing a counter-

1)My first point was that a resemblence to a novel doesn't discredit the possible existence of a tape. Which is true.

2)The reason.com article does get things wrong.

3)Obama hasn't denied it, that's reality. Take from that, what you want.

4)I doubt the tape existed, BUT it could. If it does show up, what will you say?

by Chelsea in 2020 2008-06-06 12:45PM | 0 recs
Re: I'm simply expressing a counter-

As I pointed out in my update... and in an earlier reply - Obama said this was a lie and rumor. There is nothing more he can do to deny it. He's said if anyone has any evidence of him or his wife saying something that they should come forward with it. No one has. He can't refute something if no one has an actual accusation. So there is nothing to refute... other than to say this is a lie and false rumor and anyone spreading it should be embarrassed.

Would you like for Hillary to answer questions about where she killed Vince Foster? Or how long she's been a closet lesbian?

Re: I'm simply expressing a counter-

Well gee, the fact that there are murders in movies and novels does not discredit the possibility that Hillary murdered Vince Foster, right?

And as for denials "he never denied he was a communist until we accused him of it, did he!"

And the fact that the tape COULD show up...well, what if evidence shows up that PROVES that Hillary killed Vince Foster?  What will YOU say?

Do you see how inane this is?  Do you realize that making up any ludicrous story, starting stories about it on the internet, providing absolutely NO hard evidence that it's true (and when actual evidence around the time period in question contradicts the assertion made), does not put the burden on the candidate to deny it, nor does it make people buying the story appear credible?  In fact, it makes the people buying the story look like desperate wing nuts.

Maybe I should make up a story that Hillary killed Vince Foster to prevent him from exposing her lesbian relationship with Janet Reno.  Hey, I'll claim that I saw a tape all about it!  Now, if I can get that repeated on some other people's blogs, it'll have to be taken seriously, right?  Whaddaya mean "that's different"?

Not going to TR you

I'm just going to point out that there is a tape of your spouse having sex with fourteen year olds.

No, I haven't seen it, but I've talked to two people (one on each side of the political aisle), and it's pretty devastating.

Booman posted about the tape and says that that's actually a tape of your spouse having sex with you, and that only a really twisted and deranged person would mistake it for sex with a fourteen year old, but I trust my sources.

What .. you say I'm basing my wild and dishonest accusation on an episode of Maury Povich that has nothing to do with you? Well, so what? That doesn't mean the tape isn't real.

And if you Clinton people TR me, I'll report your names to Jerome.

Then read this

I hope you can be reasonable enough to see how ridiculous this whole thing is. It is a fake rumor and it is the same kind of smears and rumors that were used against Hillary in 1992. You better than anyone should be disgusted at the tactics used against Michelle.

I would pay good money to hear those sermons. And to think, Obama got to hear them for free for all those years. He liked them so much that he brought his family.

Re: Whitey Tape Found! Update X2

I'm not a fan of Obama at the top of the ticket but the Larry Sinclaire thing would have come out if it were true.

The guy failed his lie detector test months ago. He could have taken another one and passed by now. You're reaching for straws on this one.

I do think other things will come out that Clinton couldn't use. The Republicans will revisit stories that didn't get much play in the Dem primary. It won't take much to defeat Obama in the swing states (unless he puts Clinton on the ticket, that's a game changer).

by mmorang 2008-06-06 12:44PM | 0 recs
Would you say that you're...

by JJE 2008-06-06 12:46PM | 0 recs
Re: Would you say that you're...

No, actually I wouldn't say I was concerned about those issues. Why do you ask?

I simply stated a fact. The Republicans will do exactly what they always do.

Al Gore (who I'm a huge fan of) is the first person to use Willie Horton against Michael Dukakis but no one paid attention. The Republicans used Willie Horton again and this time it worked and brought Dukakis down.

The same thing will happen with Wright and Ayers. I don't think the Ayers thing is fair but the Wright issue is fair.

Hillary was way too soft on Obama, probably because she was expecting to make him the V.P. and she didn't want to anger the AA community too much. She has been destroyed in the AA community anyway, so she blew it by being too nice.

The Republicans will not make that mistake. They are wrong on nearly every issue and they're running a corpse.

My money is on the corpse unless Obama really surprises me and puts Clinton on the ticket, that would be a game-changer.

by mmorang 2008-06-06 12:58PM | 0 recs
Wright was beaten to death

I thought there was some other issue you were worried about.  The media was all-Wright, all the time for at least a week.  Nobody who would otherwise vote for Obama cares about Ayers.

Re: Whitey Tape Found! Update X2

This diary debunking the tape based on some stretched analogy to some novel is hardly an improvement in terms of evidence over the original claim that the tape exists.

There's certainly nothing resembling real evidence that the tape exists. But the debunking in this diary is completely lame as well - indeed, lamer. The "refutation" in the Reason article is lame also, seizing on relatively minor inconsistencies in Johnson's account (as if he or his supposed informants would have a definitive version of what's on the tape themselves).

And, let me just say, it would have been nice to get a more definitive answer out of Obama. I think it would have been good for him just to come out and declare the allegation absurd and obviously false, instead of what he did say. Would it have killed him to make such a declaration, to get complete closure on the matter?

by frankly0 2008-06-06 01:38PM | 0 recs
Well

The problem is the game playing by the MSM. Once you say no, even to something that is total BS, the "denial become legitimate news". So frankly I think "** off" was the best approach.

I wouldn't call this a debunking... so much as a snarking. You can't refute something with no concrete allegations. And as politicsmatters pointed out, we've seen these baseless rumors in almost every cycle. What can you do but make fun of it?

Re: Keep in mind

I don't buy that.

He could just say something generic, such as "Look, I'm not going to get in a position that I have to address all of the many lies that have been told about me in email or Internet campaigns. This is just another one of those absurd, fabricated lies. Ask the guy who thinks he's got something on me to produce it. When you see that it never turns up, you'll know just what kind of guy you're dealing with: the kind of guy who trades in lies."

It doesn't make me feel any closure to observe that Obama did, in fact, say could just as easily have been said by someone who wanted to minimize any damage if the tape were in fact produced. Given what he did, in fact, say, he won't have been caught in a lie about the possible existence of such a tape, if it were ever produced.

At bare minimum, his response was too clever by half.

by frankly0 2008-06-06 02:55PM | 0 recs
How funny

that he did just that:

"We have seen this before. There is dirt and lies that are circulated in e-mails and they pump them out long enough until finally you, a mainstream reporter, asks me about it."

Adds: "If somebody has evidence that myself or Michelle or anybody has said something inappropriate, let them do it."

Look at the diary update for the link.

by Tatan 2008-06-06 03:07PM | 0 recs
Re: How funny

You know, I just wish people had to pass a reading comprehension test before they posted here.

What did he say? That there is a pattern of "dirt and lies" being circulated in emails. But, assuming it is part of the pattern, is the claim of the existence of a tape "dirt" or is it a "lie"?

You see, he did NOT directly say that this particular claim -- that Michelle had said something derogatory  -- was a lie. He could very easily have said something that made the point emphatically that that claim was a lie -- which is what my restatement of what Obama said does in fact do.

As I said, what he said was consistent with that claim NOT being a lie. Hence if someday a tape is revealed, this statement may be parsed to be misleading, and not a lie -- minimizing the damage.

And I don't see any advantage to the way Obama did express it, in terms of tamping down the issue. Something that clearly entails that the claim is a lie, while being completely dismissive of it, engenders far better closure on the issue: there's no open question as to whether it was denied by Obama, and that ends it. He no longer needs to address the issue.

by frankly0 2008-06-06 03:26PM | 0 recs
Re: How funny

He does not need to address the issue NOW. It s a rumor made out of whole cloth.

This is exactly like Tom DeLay's "Unless he proves me otherwise, I think Obama is a Marxist". How in hell do you prove a negative ?
The burden should not be on him to deny something made up and offensive and risk making it a story than denying it.
It should be on the assholes (sorry for the bad word) who have made up the story and claim to have proof.

There is not ONE shred of evidence for this horrible idiotic story and PLENTY of evidence it was made up to smear Obama.

So enough !
The burden is not on him and it should not be.

is sexist. They are making up this stuff about her because she is the wife of Obama, they always attack the wife. Michelle Obama is not running for office, she's never held any elected office and she's made it clear she's not interested. Sure she helps out her husband on the campaign trail, but she's Not the candidate, much like Cindy McCain is Not the candidate. Seems there's a double standard in the media. The wives of democratic candidates can be slandered with No evidence but the wives of Republicans are never "vetted" in any way. That's sexism.

Re: I think attacking Michelle Obama

I don't know that it's sexist, but it is absolutely inappropriate.  Michelle Obama is not the candidate and she should not be attacked.  The way the Republicans--and, I am ashamed to say, some Democrats--talk about Michelle Obama reminds me of the way Hillary was treated when she was First Lady.

I actually like Michelle Obama.  I have found her blunt "gaffes" to be quite refreshing.  She seems authentic and comes across as a real person.  Her husband has my vote, but I haven't warmed up to him yet.  I think that Michelle might actually be an asset in terms of reaching out to the Clinton Democrats.

Re: I think attacking Michelle Obama

I like Michelle as well. Even her "I'll have to think about it" moment was honest.

My first thought about Michelle and the Obamas was: Here we go again, another couple where I think she's better for the job than he is, another really brilliant woman dutifully supporting a very charming man.

Why can't we just cut to the chase and run Michelle now, before the media and the right wing "Hillaries" her.

I have a little black book with my poems in.

I have a bag with a toothbrush and comb.
When I'm a good dog them sometimes throw me a bone in (bone in, bone in, bone in, bone in).
I got elastic bands keeping my shoes on. Got those swollen hand blues.  I got thirteen channels of shit on the T.V. to choose from.
I've got electric light - and I've got second sight!  I've got amazing, powers, of observation.

And that is how I know - when I try to get through on the telephone to you:

There'll be nobody home.

I've got the obligatory Hendrix perm, got the inevitable pinhole burns, all down the front of my favourite satin shirt.
I've got nicotine stains on my fingers, got a silver spoon on a chain. I've a grand piano to prop up my mortal remains.
I've got wild staring eyes! And I've got a strong urge to FLY!  But I've got nowhere to fly to (fly to, fly to, fly to, fly to).

Oooooo Babe!  When I pick up the phone,

There's still nobody home.

Re: Whitey Tape Found! Update X2

Michelle's hatred of Whitey  and his ilk, is common among people of her background, and is understandable. It is due to the historical  comparitive inadequacy of their own people.

If you want to see ugly prejudice just start praising Whitey, Babe, Lou, Mickey, Yogi etc to a Chicago native.

I don't think we should hold it against her
