The Truth About the Michelle Obama Tape

Booman at the Boom Tribune reports on the so-called smear tape of Michelle Obama, being peddled by Larry Johnson, one of Hillary Clinton's strongest supporters:

From what I understand, it is a tape of Michelle Obama criticizing the Bush administration.

How you'd write it:

Why did Bush cut folks off medicaid?
Why did Bush let New Orleans drown?
Why did Bush do nothing about Jena?
Why did Bush put us in Iraq for no reason?

How you'd say it:

Why'd he cut folks off medicaid?
Why'd he let New Orleans drown?
Why'd he do nothing about Jena?
Why'd he put us in Iraq for no reason?

How Larry Johnson wants you to hear it:

Whitie cut folks off medicaid?
Whitie let New Orleans drown?
Whitie do nothing about Jena?
Whitie put us in Iraq for no reason?

I'm going to be honest with you. Both SusanHu and Larry Johnson have been friends of mine. They have both done a lot for me and I am grateful and indebted to them. Any issues I've had with their activities in this election I have kept private. I haven't visited their site in four months because I found it too personally painful to read what they were writing and I did not want to be tempted to respond. I thought I owed them that. But loyalty can only go so far. If they publish this allegation tomorrow, I will no longer speak with them. And I say that with great sorrow.

Clinton supporters, I ask you to help me and other decent Democrats knock this tape down, because what it is nothing more than a fake smear of Michelle Obama. I remember when Hillary Clinton was smeared like this, and I hide-rate anyone that brings up the stupid Vince Foster shit. I hope Clinton supporters will do the same to anyone tomorrow.

I'm not worried.

Let him release whatever tape he has.

It's not like he's the only one holding it (if it exists).

Johnson is a tool and I have no intention of being held

hostage by that bigot.

Re: tip jar for Democrats

Yeah well. It is not Clinton supporters / voters I care about appealing to. It's the GE voters who do not sit on blogs.

You start a rumor about him being Muslim and have what was it 13% of the country thinking he is?

You give one indication, if what you are saying is true of her "seeming to say/rant" and it won't matter that it is not true. If it gets debated on TV ... it gets out there.

If the media does not debate it. It's just another video then with little impact.

BooMan has been slamming Hillary for a long time now in his diaries, and not in an altogether intellectually honest way either.

If this were coming from someone whose commentary I respected more in general, it would mean alot more. As it is, I decline to form an opinion based on his argument alone.

Please smell reality.

If there was a damaging tape, it would have been out by now.  Why?  Because if it was so damaging, Clinton would be the nominee and not Obama.  The GOP wanted to run against Clinton, not Obama for many reasons.

That tape would have benefited both McCain and Clinton, but for some reason it is not OUT THERE.

And BooMan is as realistic as can be.  Again, time to come to grips if you are going to stand Democratic or join a GOP site to bolster McCain, the choice is yours.

If there was any credence to this tape,

it would have BEEN out there.

Don't forget the altered Mickey Cantor tape.  That diary was number one on Daily Kos, but until the actual director released the real clip, that shit was pulled from all major media outlets and labeled altered/false.

Lastly, I hope Larry Johnson has a very good attorney.  Don't think the Obamas will let this slide.  Barack Obama has turned out to be a deft, but shrewd politician.  For anyone to believe that the Obama Campaign has not viewed all the tapes at TUCC, think again.

Anyone running this tape can possibly be dragged into courts, especially any news outlets.  Yes, Faux News and those harpies over there.

Re: If there was any credence to this tape,

There's that little word "if" to reckon with.

When people treat rumors and accusations as truth, before bothering to find out whether "if" they're really true, that's a smear.

Guilt by accusation.

by TL 2008-06-02 11:31AM | 0 recs
Re: If there was any credence to this tape,

I cannot imagine how one would drag a news outlet into court just for running this possibly non-existent tape.

Frankly, Larry Johnson risks more legal jeopardy by making the statements he has been making so far than he would by simply releasing the tape.  And of course news outlets can run whatever tape they feel like.  If it exists, it says what it says, that's not actionable.

by Steve M 2008-06-02 09:52AM | 0 recs
not really

the republicans want to save it for later to defeat Obama.  Clinton would never use it even if she had it.  I am guessing Obama has it and the republicans have it and that if it were innocent Obama would release it. He has every reason to get it out now, if the transcript as is the diarist says, and the republicans have every reason to hold it for later.

You know, until yesterday I did not believe there was any tape.I thought someone was yanking Larry's chain.  Now I believe there is a tape and that it is problematic because otherwise people would not be spinning "what Michelle really said".

Re: The Truth About the Michelle Obama Tape

I'm defending her 60 Minutes interview. There have been a lot of false slanders against Clinton, and that was one of the worst. For God's sake.

Re: Ok

Any impartial viewing of the Clinton interview will make it clear that she's firmly rejecting the Muslim smear. The "as far as I know" comment, which she said only after being asked repeatedly the same asinine question, came with her eyes bugged out in this "why the hell are you still asking me this?" exasperation.

If you seriously think that her instant response of "of course not" followed by the statement that lots of smears have been made about her so she sympathizes when it happens to someone else was some incredibly nuanced and clever way of keeping the issue alive, and that she purposely waited until the interviewer asked the question three times to say it--well, I don't know how we're going to achieve this magical Unity that everyone is talking about.

Talking about pedophilia, even in jest, isn't helping anything. Be serious.

by OrangeFur 2008-06-01 10:47PM | 0 recs

It by default implies the possibility that there may be evidence out there that proves he is a muslim, it doesn't matter if she said it the first time or the tenth.

Re: No

Jesus Fucking Christ - have you for one second thought about how those questions sound to honest-to-god Muslims? She's trying not to insult a part of the world that we are at war with, and the millions of Americans who are Muslim as well.

It's a horrible question. Saying that someone is Muslim to insult them is insulting to Muslims. Pressing Hillary on the subject insults them further.

Re: No

It is insulting to call a Christian a Muslim.  It denies their faith and their identity, if that isn't an insult, nothing is.

Re: No

We aren't talking about the Christian - we're talking about Hillary's hesitant response, and how using the Muslim faith to insult someone is insulting to Muslims.

Re: No

Yup.  It is so clear that Clinton's "as far as I know" comment was completely innocent; and I am still amazed how swiftly Obama people managed to turn that single phrase into a Clinton-led conspiracy to deceive voters on Obama's religion.  It can actually be read as a sensitive comment to Muslim Americans; after all, definitive "No, of COURSE he's not a Muslim!" could definetely go down as an insult to that demographic.

by MMR2 2008-06-01 11:59PM | 0 recs
Re: No

It is an insult to call someone something they are not.  If I called Hillary a man it would be an insult.  If i called Obama a woman it would be an insult.  When you call a muslim a christian or a christian a muslim, it is an insult.

That is not debatable.  I can accept that Hillary's insulting implication was an accident, but you can't deny it's an insult.

Props for that.

But I am honestly curious about your view of the interview. Clearly I disagree with OrangeFur here (though I have no beef with him - I respect his interpretation of the interview, mine is just different), but it makes a difference to me if you're suggesting to me that I'm a) way off base in my interpretation of the clip or b) should just fall in line and not say anything critical of Sen. Clinton because that will make her supporters more likely to support Sen. Obama.

by gcensr 2008-06-01 10:52PM | 0 recs
Re: The Truth About the Michelle Obama Tape

I believe you when you say that's your sincere interpretation of it.

It's odd though--I feel like we're arguing whether the sky is blue or not. To me it's simply clear cut.

Honestly, if I believed even one of the more explosive charges against Clinton--the 60 Minutes interview, the Drudge photo flap, the RFK comment, any of the race-baiting charges-- I'd drop my support of her immediately. These are really serious charges. I feel like you'd have to think she's a pretty vile person to believe any of those things.

I hope this wasn't offensive. I appreciate your comment about respecting my viewpoint.

Re: The Truth About the Michelle Obama Tape

If politicians intentions were as clear as frequencies of light, I would be a much happier person - I am a physicist; I revel in all things objective.

Alas, I'm forced to rely on the nuances of tone, delivery, and context to figure out what a politician is really saying.

"I feel like you'd have to think she's a pretty vile person to believe any of those things." Well, my view is of her being more opportunistic than vile. I have great respect for Sen. Clinton, and I don't doubt her convictions that she believes she would be the best President. I just think she's willing to make false political attacks to put herself in a more favorable position. That is, I believe she thinks the ends justifies the means.

Also, responding to another of your posts, I don't think she had any planned attack on Obama's religion, but I felt that she could have debunked that ridiculous rumor much more strongly, like how Obama publically debunked Sen. Biden's "racist" remarks.

Finally, let me say that I would support Sen. Obama if he were a Muslim (as I celebrated Congressman Ellison's electon in 2006). I realize, however, that many people have a problem with electing a Muslim President, and I feel Sen. Clinton was, to an extent, playing off of some people's fears and concerns in her interview.

Re: The Truth About the Michelle Obama Tape

It seems to me that you have to already have a very negative view of Clinton's character to believe she had ill intent. In fact, I'd argue that a huge amount of the divisiveness that of this campaign originated in a presumption of bad faith about the two candidates from opposing supporters.

To take an example from the other side--was Obama trying to deliberately demean Clinton and women in general when he made remarks about "claws" and "periodically"? Personally, I don't think so. You were probably surprised that anyone would think so. But a similar thing is happening here.

What we're discussing is a 30-second snippet of spontaneous conversation, which we're poring over as if it were as well thought out as a passage from Shakespeare. The plain meaning of the words is obvious to me, and frankly, I'm not sure anyone who wasn't already predisposed to disliking Clinton saw it differently.

I don't think the two are the same.

Clinton's words were interpreted to mean something they weren't.  If what they are saying about this tape is true, they are putting words in Michelle's mouth.

Let me be clear about something, here.  This is the same kind of shit that the GOP did to the Clintons in the 90's.  The same thing.  Primary or no primary, Michelle Obama is a Democrat.  She is a member of our party and when they pull this shit to her, they don't do it to just her.  They do it to all of us.  This is an assault on the entire Democratic Party.

Michelle Obama's husband is the likely nominee, which means that she will probably be the First Lady of the United States.  Difficult primary or not, this Clintonista will passionately defend Michelle Obama against this smear and I will reject and renounce anybody who pushes it, even if I once called these people my allies.

I agree with Slinkerwink. Now that Obama's suppor-

We should be more like Slinkerwink, who urged hundreds of thousands of Kosacks to pour through Hillary and Bill Clinton's tax returns for mud to slink (get it) at them. /3/10303/42850 /4/8341/93919

Or asking Obama supporters to protest Hillary Clinton: 054/87223/540/520182

Or pushing smears of Hillary Clinton to hundreds of thousands of people: 5233/24622/945/511617 13231/5347/632/510929

Or reveling in the possibility that the Obama camp will use old mud to sling at the Clintons: 75832/6040/971/501437

I had grown a bit disillusioned with the Democratic Party, and the manner in which it has been hijacked by the Obama camp, with the willing support of the corporate media.  But your comment was like salve on my wounds.

I am ready to forget that Obama built himself up by tearing down our last two term President, and I'm ready to do whatever it takes to make sure McCain's people don't do to Obama what Obama's people mercilessly did to Clinton.

Where do I sign up?  Is there some tent with literature on how to portray McCain as a racist?

Is there a symposium on how to go through McCain's wife's tax returns?

Where do I learn how to dig up information on whether John is cheating on Cindy?

Is there a lecture on how to demand that McCain quit the race instead of letting the voters decide?

Will there be a workshop dedicated to twisting everything McCain says into something he didn't say, with an afternoon session on how to get the mainstream media to feign outrage at what wasn't even said, and regurgitate it over and over again, and an evening session on how to email transcripts from said mainstream media propaganda against McCain to voters all over the country?

I don't choose a candidate based on the internet.

But I do rule out candidates based on the media's willingness to engage in propaganda on their behalf, because I believe the media has a pro-corporate/anti-citizen agenda.

I've all but ruled out Obama at least at this point, because the way the media has handled his fight against Clinton truly scares me about his intentions.  I have never feigned outrage at Obama for having ties to Rezko, or for Rev. Wright's words, or for having an arabic sounding middle name.  But the bottom line is that the media is either in the bag for Obama because he will take from citizens and give to corporations more than Clinton will, or because McCain would, and he would have an easier time beating Obama than Clinton.  General Electric is only out for General Electric's best interests.  So, those are the only two possible reasons that General Electric is so in the bag for Obama.

Either way, I'm convinced the media (and the DNC) has unfairly and underhandedly chosen my candidate for me, and I don't like it.  Take my ball and go home?  Well, its either that or continue playing a fixed game with bought-off referees, isn't it?  And being upset at losing a rigged game makes me a sore loser, I can live with that.

Re: I don't choose a candidate based on the intern

I don't know what to say as you have effectively ruled out voting for Obama...

I would hope you would reconsider, but the choice is yours.

As to the results being fixed with bought referees, I would only say that the referees who have decided this thing would be the voters.  If they were swayed by one thing or another, only they can answer... For myself, I studied both candidates positions, both candidates records, and decided for myself.

But you and I both know that most voters are not

well informed, and that they take what their television, radio and newspaper tells them as the gospel truth, especially when all of the media outlets are pushing the same meme.  Themes such as the Clintons are being racist and Obama running a clean and masterful campaign become "conventional wisdom".

We can only continue denying the massive impact of the media in making Obama the presumptive nominee on the one hand, while blaming the media for chasing John Edwards out of the race on the other hand, for so long.  Sooner or later, those who know deep down that it was the media's coverage (or lack thereof) that killed Edwards, will have to admit that it was the same media that chose Obama over Clinton for us.

I've actually been waiting to use this response:

I would suggest that high info voters are also high income voters, and the fact that they support Obama over Clinton goes hand in hand with the fact that corporate American supports Obama over Clinton.  These groups apparently feel that Obama will do more for rich people than Hillary will.

Meanwhile, low info voters - blue collar workers - typical Democrats - appear to believe that they would do better under a Clinton administration.

So, in my book, the fact that high info voters support Obama is nothing to brag about in Democratic circles.

So is the claim that indeed the Obama knows perfectly well of the existence of the tape, and indeed knows the exact content of the tape -- to the point that they can claim that every single time Michelle supposedly says "whitey" it can be perfectly well understood to mean "why'd he" -- or is it the case that no such tape actually exists?

For those on the Obama side who say that it's really nothing more than substituting "why'd he" for "whitey", I have to ask, how can they possibly know that for sure, and how can they presume to expect that others should believe them without evidence? I would ask them to pressure the Obama campaign to release the tape so that we can all evaluate it. Short of that, their own claims that every single time Michelle says "whitey" it can be understood as "why'd he" should be treated with all the suspicion that the existence of the tape should be treated with, until that tape is produced.

Occam's Razor

Ask yourself this:

"What are the odds that an American public figure would use "Whitey" or "ni**er" or "ch*nk" or "insert racial epithet here"?

If you think those odds are high, then you may be as well.

Re: Occam's Razor

Honestly, I have no idea what Michelle Obama is capable of saying in the context of the Trinity United Church.

What I find bizarre about the quotes offered up by the Booman thingy is that they suggest that he had very direct access to the tape in question, or that someone he knows did.

Well, if so, pressure the Obama campaign to release the innocuous tape and let it demonstrate its innocuousness.

Otherwise, you are no more to be believed than Larry Johnson until that tape is released.

Re: Occam's Razor

Oh good grief.

You think it is just as likely that a potential First Lady would use the word "Whitey".

And you take the word of a slavering partisan idiot with a track record of slime and hyperbole as equal to anything anyone else has to say.

Sure thing.  Great deductive reasoning.

Re: Occam's Razor

Look, saying that she's "A potential first Lady" hardly means that back in the day when she was at TUCC -- a church which she obviously was comfortable with and which was filled with racist rants -- and when Obama was perhaps only representing the very, very far left wing district of Hyde Park -- she could not have engaged in racist rants herself. If she wasn't comfortable with racist rants, why go to a church filled to the rafters with them?

As I said, I simply don't know what she might have said.

And I would just turn your question on its head: what is "a potential First Lady" doing in such a church for 20 years, if she simply finds appalling the type of racist rants one hears in that church, and which are so roundly applauded in that church? How could she be comfortable with such preachers? How could she be comfortable with such parishioners? How could she be comfortable bringing up her own daughters in such an environment?

Again, this is a potential First Lady?

Re: Occam's Razor

You're asking the wrong person about churches.

In my opinion, filling your kids with devisive Creation Myths that specify who is worthy of Paradise and who is destined for eternity in a lake of fire is ridiculous, but you have to be the Right Kind of Christian to be seen as equal in this country so every candidate has to be in that boat.

I've been to lots of churches.  In retrospect, they are all bizarre.  The good works done by the vast majority of churches is separate from the bad they almsost all do.  TUCC is a perfect example - it is not disputed that they have done a huge amount of good, but still there remains all the rest.

My step-father (Karl Lutze - google him up) is a Lutheran pastor and in part because of that a legendary Civil Rights leaders since 1945.  There is an enormous divide between Karl's laudable actions and the damage done by religion here and now, and throughout time everywhere.

So, you want me to comment on the churches every politician attends?  They virtually all assert that I and my family will suffer forever.  You tell me which one is offensive, I think they all are in their own way.

by chrisblask 2008-06-02 07:50AM | 0 recs
Re: Occam's Razor

Please stop.  TUCC was not/is not "filled with racist rants."  The MSM culled through YEARS of sermons and was only able to come up with maybe 2 to 3 minutes of inflamatory material which had to be cut from context and played over and over again to have the desired effect.

As for the recent flap, let me point out that Father Phlegler is a Catholic priest who was invited to speak as part of a national UCC "sacred conversation on racism," the idea of which was to have speakers who represented many different viewpoints. TUCC also invited a white woman pastor whose views are quite mainstream to speak.  Why can't TUCC be given credit for her comments as well, if that is the way we are playing the game?

Re: Occam's Razor

I'm sure some more mainstream stuff comes out at TUCC.

What that doesn't excuse or erase are the racist and hateful rants that also take place there, to wild applause by the parishioners. Given the manner in which it is received by the parishioners, how can anyone pretend that this is just some act and attitude that deviates from what is taught and believed in that church? Yes, it doesn't happen all the time, but I defy you to find even a single occurrence of something equally racist and hateful and vile taking place in other churches. And Wright is an adherent of Black Liberation Theology; pretending that his racist rants are just an accident, and not inherent to what he believes is on its face absurd.

The truth is, God only knows what is said privately by these preachers and parishioners, given the vile stuff that is applauded when it is said publicly. What's simply amazing is that this church would allow ANY of these racist rants to be sold publicly. What has been said in that church that even the powers that be in the church realize are beyond the pale, and should not be exposed to the public?

Re: Occam's Razor

Are you serious?  I can give you plenty of examples of things coming out of churches, so-called Christian churches, that are vile beyond belief.  How about the little Southern Baptist church that my sister got kicked out of because she objected to a sunday school teacher saying that blacks and whites don't go to the same heaven.  Is that a good example?  How about any church that Rev Hagee preaches in?  You know the sermon where he says that Hitler was God's tool for getting the Jewish people to re-populate Israel?

Are you completely daft?  What Pastor Wright had to say wasn't a tenth as vile as that.

Re: The Truth About the Michelle Obama Tape

If it turns out that there is a tape, and it turns out to be as simple a misunderstanding as hearing "Whitey" instead of "Why'd he?" I don't see how it could do any real damage to Obama.
If anything it could galvanize people to vote for him by way of voting against the use of a smear which presumes some real ignorance and gullibility.
People may have been disgusted by the Lewinsky affair but they were even more disgusted that it was used as an excuse for impeachment.  Bill Clinton's popularity actually went up.
His popularity went up among ALL Americans, not just Democrats.  It'd be good to remember that before making assumptions about this "possible" tape and its effect on "gullible voters."
######################################## #
(AllPolitics, December 20) -- In the wake of the House of Representatives' approval of two articles of impeachment, Bill Clinton's approval rating has jumped 10 points to 73 percent, the latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll shows.

That's not only an all-time high for Clinton, it also beats the highest approval rating President Ronald Reagan ever had.

At the same time, the number of Americans with an unfavorable view of the Republican Party has jumped 10 points; less than a third of the country now has a favorable view of the GOP.
######################################## #########
People just don't LIKE this B.S. If it's clear that she was talking about Bush - well the American people pretty much agree with her. In the wake of the McClellan revelations they are tuned into deliberate distortions in the service of political power.
Give the American people some credit here.

The truth about this diary

is that you are blind quoting Booman blind quoting Student Guy's speculation from yesterday here at MyDD, nothing less, nothing more.

You should update the diary and post the link to Student Guy's diary so people can read the important line you don't include:

In fact, I through my awesome investigative researching of aforementioned tape can predict what they will claim Michelle said:

Ie. StudentGuy was just posting speculation, and you and Booman are, too. In fact, by NOT posting that link, you are effectively spreading Larry Johnson's story for him.

If you don't have a link, you are either speculating or spreading rumors or voicing your own personal opinion.

Use some common sense.

And update the diary, please.

Re: The truth about this diary

That's pretty friggin' hilarious.

Here is my own speculation, which I hope will get repeated around the blogosphere and eventually turned into a diary proclaiming "the truth about the Michelle Obama tape" --

There simply is no such tape.

I can't prove my theory, but it has the advantage of being far more plausible than anyone else's theory.

How can anyone knock the tape down or defend Michelle until anyone has heard it? From my understanding, no one has heard it yet.

I'm prepared to give Michelle the benefit of the doubt since no one has heard it and I have seen no proof it actually exists.  And if it doesn't come out until November, supposedly, then how can anyone "use" it now?  It seems to be a big fat rumor so far, and nothing else. I don't see how rumors are useful. I don't prefer to support Obama for President, but until this video surfaces, in my opinion it doesn't exist.  It's just rumor.  You can't use rumors as fact.

Re: The Truth About the Michelle Obama Tape

Looks like some folks at hillaryis44 are fine with baseless rumors.  One slimeball there said:

The rumor could do him more damage than the real thing if this picks up a life of its own. People love suspense, mystery and intrigue. It sells at the newsstands. His camp knows this and is waiting to see if it picks up steam. It seems to be doing so.

If it did not exist, they would have already denied it. So it must. They were hoping it would just fade away or come too late to save Hillary. If it came from the GOP, they could claim switfboating. But now it is just "out there".

Our job is to spread this thing loud and clear. We are not doing any wrong. If it is false, Ok Obama, just come out and inform us as such. We will cease and desist. That is unless it does come out after you have denied its authenticity.

If it is reality, we are doing our country a great service. This pair should not be in the White House.

We are in a win-win situation it seems.

Whether this is valid or not, I really don't know. The below site/link claims that this is off of Larry Johnson's of today.

I learned over the weekend why the Republicans who have seen the tape of Michelle Obama ranting about "whitey" describe it as "STUNNING." They are sitting on a panel at Jeremiah Wright's Church when Michelle makes her intemperate remarks. er-reports-michelle-obama-whitey-video-t alking-to-louis-farrakhan.php

The key sentence is...

If the quotation is as you have stated, it would be fairly easy to determine her intent. As a Harvard educated person herself I am going to assume if she wanted to say:

"Whitie do nothing about Jena?"

She would say it like this:

"Whitie did nothing about Jena"
"Whitie does nothing about Jena"

Because "Why'd he" is past tense and would fit with "do nothing" but not with "did nothing".

Thus, in this sentence (if she ever spoke this sentence) we can discern her intent. The "do" vs. "did" is the key word that will separate "Why'd he" vs. "Whitie"

We of course need to wait for the tape or other proof.

It is stunning that no candidate male or female, repub or dem, would ever have gotten this far into a candidacy if they had the same background that Obama has.

Re: The Truth About the Michelle Obama Tape

Whether people here believe the tape to be fiction, the fact is that as soon as a number of voters hear the words "Michelle Obama" connected with "Louis Farrakhan", the damage will be done. Considering some of the statements Michelle has made in the past, no video is necessary, as many will consider the association alone damaging enough without the insertion of the derogatory terms alledgedly used. The more people hear of this, the more people will believe in it. I can't tell you how many people still believe the crap about Bill Clinton that has been debunked over the years, so you're only kidding yourselves if you think this thing doesn't have legs. This is, after all, a claim much easier for most white Americans to believe than the one peddled calling the Clintons racist.

While white voters will vote for a black candidate, they will never consider any black candidate associated with the likes of Louis Farrakhan, and it's that aspect alone that will derail Obama's GE chances - should he be the nominee - and result in a most humiliating defeat.

by SoCalHillMan 2008-06-02 10:14AM | 0 recs
Not sure what this tape says, however..

attempting to associate every prominent AA with Farrakhan has really gotten old.

Never mind that the likes of Gov. Rendell of PA partnered with Farrakhan to address racial issues in Philly. (gasp) Huh? A jew and Farrakhan?  Yeah, go friggin' figure that Gov. Rendell would praise Farrakhan for his work!

I know there is a concerted effort by the R's to move BHO out of the mainstream, but for the life of me I will never understand why the Dems bite - no matter how much disagreement we have about how electable one is over the other.

We should be shouting from the rooftops about how sick and ridiculous it is to, once again, engage in the politics of attack and division with so many REAL and IMPORTANT issues at stake!

Bigoted Garbage

First, I don't know a single black person that uses the term "whitey". This story in concocted by bigots whose last contact with a black person has been through watching seventies blaxploitation films.

Second, a Harvard educated speaker is not going to use the sentence construction, "whitie do nothing about Jena"

Third, the Obama campaign has studiously avoided anything that stokes white/black tensions. Michelle would simply not say anything like this on the trail, as it's simply stupid politics.

Anybody who circulates this is beneath contempt and a bigoted pig.  For those who say "he did it too" by dragging out perceived sexist sleights by Obama are working against making this country a better place.  A thinking Democrat would work against all the nasty isms and would never perpetuate one as revenge for another.  If any of this crap starts appearing here, the poster should be troll-rated, hid, and banned.  This is some disgusting garbage.

Yet many times Obama supporters have stood silent or derided Hillary and her supporters whenever sexism reared its ugly head.

I happen to agree with your assessment of the likelihood of Michelle using certain terminology, but consider it highly plausible that Michelle did use certain words or phrases while reflecting her upbringing in a setting with certain individuals that could prove very damaging with Obama's standing within the white community.

Six degrees of separation from Louis Farrakhan will most certainly not be enough in this case.

we try to warn them, but we're simply wrong and in the meantime there are millions of women who are pissed and won't donate to the DNC or vote for the presumptive nominee.  Blacks used to not vote back in the fifties when both parties used racism, and women are not going to vote for a party that tolerates misogyny.  Those who can't hear it are deaf.

Re: The Truth About the Michelle Obama Tape

they should show it themselves, and not let pugs release it late in October.

Re: The Truth About the Michelle Obama Tape

As a way of raising discourse here, could you refrain from calling Republicans "pugs?" I've never been a Republican but I think it's best to avoid all name-calling. If we want to attract people from different points of view to the Democratic party, it isn't helpful to call folks names not of their choosing.

I thought there was no tape?
You want me to defend Mrs Obama after the thing she has said about Hillary?  After the Obama's called the Clinton's racists and said Hillary "will do anything to win", and many other statements right from the republican playbook of the 90s/
I don't think so.  If there is a tape and it is as you say, then the Obama's should release it and prove it to us.  Until then I am assuming that she did say whitey at least once and if she did, come on, they will never occupy the White House.
Her anger at white America is understandable, but it is not appropriate for the first Lady to hold such grudges and attitudes.  If we are to move on from race then African American leaders must also move on.  Racists of any color can not be leaders, no matter how understandable their prejudice.

Re: I thought there was no tape?

After the Obama's called the Clinton's racists

Please support this accusation with a transcript or an audio/video link.

If there is a tape and it is as you say, then the Obama's should release it and prove it to us.

If the tape exists, it's up to the accusers to release it, not the Obama camp (who may not even have access to any recordings of the supposed event).

Until then I am assuming that she did say whitey at least once and if she did, come on, they will never occupy the White House.

Guilty until proven innocent?  It was already questionable whether you are an actual Democrat.. now I'm concerned that you don't even understand the concept.

When you get a chance, please ask McCain 'Why'd he suck up to the religious right after what happened in 2000?' for me, please.
