McCain asks Russians for money- really.

From Ben Smith's blog on Poltico comes an amusing story.
It seems that the McCain campaign, which has been seen scowling suspiciously at Barack Obama's untold millions in donations, has been caught in an amusing fauz pas:

On a day on which McCain campaign manager Rick Davis hinted that Obama was taking foreign money, the Russian Mission to the United Nations has released a standard-issue fundraising letter gone a bit astray

As the story goes, Senator McCain sent a letter asking for a donation to the Russian envoy to the UN.

Russia's permanent mission to the UN has received a letter from U.S. Republican presidential candidate John McCain asking for financial support of his election campaign, the mission said in a statement on Monday.

"We have received a letter from Senator John McCain with a request for a financial donation to his presidential election campaign. In this respect we have to reiterate that neither Russia's permanent mission to the UN nor the Russian government or its officials finance political activities in foreign countries," the statement said.

SNIP

Bakhtin confirmed the story to Politico, and wouldn't comment on the added oddity of the error coming from the anti-Russian McCain. "We just find it amusing," he said.

File this under the category of you just can't make this stuff up.

Oh yeah, saw this eyeballing game, and I really suck at it, but it's fun, check it out.

Re: McCain asks Russians for money- really.

Isn't this like ILLEGAL?... They complained a lot when those "Chinese commies" were giving money. Hum, I wonder why they like "Russian Oligs?" Amazing. Those pathetic b*stards.

I can believe it

There was a great Nation piece showing the connections between McCain and lobbyists for the Russian Oligarchy. Did you read that diary by Ivan Krastev about how the Russian officials he spoke to were rooting for McCain?

Birds of an oligarchical feather and all that...

Yes, that was a fascinating diary. Real insight into the minds of the mysterious Russians.
