SD abortion bill: Johnson speaks! (At last)

Better late than never - and no harm in looking before you leap. (I doubt when South Dakotans elected Timmy Johnson for his resemblance to Zorro or Howard Dean!)
(I'm following up an earlier piece here.)
The two Democratic members of South Dakota's congressional delegation on Tuesday characterized abortion-ban legislation signed by Gov. Mike Rounds on Monday as "extreme."
In written statements, Sen. Tim Johnson and Rep. Stephanie Herseth said HB1215, which would ban abortion in South Dakota except to save the life of a pregnant woman, does not have the support of most South Dakotans.
Now, bearing in mind that the SD (now) act goes further than even the creationist freaks' best buddy in the White House wants to go, Johnson and Herseth have cover.
They have cover the width of their home state.
(Put another way, this is no Sister Souljah moment!)
We also have this:
Johnson said HB1215 "would deny individual women, even under the most extreme circumstances, their current right to prayerfully determine for themselves whether to have an abortion. This denial would be without regard to whether the pregnancy has been only one day in duration; whether it has been the result of rape or incest; or whether its continuation would cause profound injury to the woman."
Johnson said that just as he opposes criminalizing abortion for victims of rape or incest, he also opposes late-term abortions.
I'd infer from that lot that Johnson's views pretty much match Bush's.
He knows like the rest of us that HB 1215 is going precisely nowhere. But it gives him an opportunity to triangulate.
And we know that's what Dem pols like best!
