Part 5: Who is Patrick Murphy?
This is the fifth segment of a ten part series about why you, and the netroots community as a whole, should be focused on the Eighth Congressional District of Pennsylvania. There has been a lot of discussion around the net about what makes a good "netroots" candidate - this is my case for Patrick Murphy in PA-08.
If you haven't already, please check out the first four installments:
More on the flip....
I am finally back with Part 5. Hmmmm I don't even know where to begin on an introduction to Patrick Murphy. There is so much to say, and so much has been written. I guess this quote from Larry Ceisler of PoliticsPA is as good as any a place to start:
Murphy comes square at the GOP's strength. He recently left the Army where he served in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne. As a member of the Judge Advocate Corp, he was an instructor at West Point and if elected, would be the first Iraq veteran to go to Congress. He . . . went to Bucks County Community College. He worked full time on the Kerry-Edwards campaign and made a lot of friends in the process. He is a nightmare opponent for any Bush Republican. Murphy is a soldier who says he is in it for the duration
And, oh yeah, did I mention that he was Deployed in Bosnia, recently named one of Philadelphia Daily News' "21 On the Spot" and had President Clinton say this about him: "We need to find ways to multiply the spirit shown by Patrick Murphy . . . if we're going to meet our country's challenges."
