Writ of Summons on Hillary:

"Thank you, Mrs. Clinton for the Cold War history lesson!  And since you had those eight years in the White House (happening after the Cold War), of course you're right!  If the Pashtoons or Taliban give us enough trouble, we can nuke the bastards if we want to."

Drama Queen went to the Cannon Building in D.C. to ask Rep. Pat McHenry for a list of questions he didn't answer during his online town hall event earlier this week:

"It was very sad. His intern/greeter dude could only give me an inch of water; that's all they had. Maybe I should make it into a postcard that says: "I visited my Congressman and all I got was an inch of water in a plastic cup."

Shuler's Numbers Don't Tell the Whole Story

CQ Politics posted an interesting analysis of Democratic Party Unity since regaining the majority.  Here's the bit on Congressman Shuler:

Heath Shuler, North Carolina's 11th District (West -- Asheville)

* Party Unity Score: 82.9 percent (4th lowest)

* 2006 result: Shuler 54%, Rep. Charles H. Taylor 46%

* 2004 President: Bush 57%, Kerry 43%

Shuler, who takes conservative positions on some social issues, voted against the bills to promote embryonic stem cell research and to classify certain violent offenses as "hate crimes." He also voted against a defeated bill, backed by 169 Democrats and two Republicans, that called for the full withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq within 180 days.

When Congressman Shuler took office, I was prepared for him to vote against Democrats and progressives on issues of gay rights, stem cell science, and a range of other "social issues".  What I wasn't prepared for was the poor reasoning and outright intolerance in casting those votes.

Pakistan Harbors Terrorists, Tests New Missile

Yesterday it was Sy Hersh explaining that the Bush administration is funneling money to radical Sunni groups to combat Iranian Shiite influence as the DoD draws up a 24-hour rapid attack strategy.

"The Saudis and some in the Administration have been arguing that the biggest threat is Iran and the Sunni radicals are the lesser enemies. This is a victory for the Saudi line."

Today it's news that Pakistan has dismissed the idea of doing any more to catch bin Laden or rein in terrorists within their borders while test firing a ballistic missile with a 1,200 mile range.  The missile is nuclear capable.

Brownback, Tancredo, Hunter - Base Jumping

In a competition that ought to get red-meat Republicans in steel-cage match feuds for the next two years, Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) has just entered the Presidential field along with Tom Tancredo (R-Col.) and Duncan Hunter (R-Cal.).  Barring some chimeric fusion resulting in a Hunter Tanback Browncredo, the puritanical right has a fight on its hands to determine who will be the
Most Likely To Make One Of The Front Runners Look Electable.

Sam Brownback has staked out the position of the most fervently anti-choice candidate while Tancredo has sole ownership of the most unforgiving anti-immigration stance.  Hunter, whose website campaign slogan is "America: The Strength of Freedom", is a strong-on-defense fiscal watchdog.

Heath Shuler Survives Candy Crowley

CNN's Candy Crowley, in her hour-long "Broken Government" special tonight featuring the NC-11 Congressional race, faithfully recited every Republican talking point and then made Democrats argue first why the talking points were correct then argue why they were wrong.  Crowley's narrative was based on the fiction of a strong Republican party.  Using RNC language and playing Charles Taylor's advertisements, Crowley painted the Democrats as weak on national security and as utterly out-of-touch with rural America.  When Crowley wasn't wondering about Democrats' weaknesses with rural voters, she was wondering about whether liberal, urban voters will be turned off by Shuler's rural values.  Even when showing Shuler's grassroots, door-to-door campaigning, Crowley trumpeted the greatness of Republican party efforts to do the same.

NC-11: NRCC Does Taylor's Dirty Work

The RNCC, embroiled in the Foley scandal after accepting $100,000 from the disgraced former Congressman in order to keep his pedophilia a secret, today delivered a glossy mailer to the Hoolie home and the homes of thousands of residents of North Carolina's 11th district.  The title?  "Heath Shuler Dropped the Ball...".  The subject?  Shuler's business, with which he no longer has any direct involvement, was late to pay taxes.  The problem?  Charles Taylor's unpaid taxes have been news in this district for eight years.
