A Look at Democratic Senate Committee Chairs

I took a quick and dirty run through the current Republican committee chairs in the Senate, and looked at who the Democratic committee chairs are likely to be if we win back the Senate.  Stay tuned for a corresponding look at the House.

Re: A Look at Democratic Senate Committee Chairs

With a few exceptions, a pretty depressing list.

Don't expect them to confront Bush, NeoConism, or the corporatocracy at any turns where they can avoid it.

Re: A Look at Democratic Senate Committee Chairs

I think Rockefeller would be a significant improvement over Pat Roberts on Intelligence, and ANYONE would be a major improvement from wacko lunatic Jim Inhofe on Environment and Public Works.  Conrad would be a major step up from "we need to cut the butter" Judd Gregg on Budget.  Kennedy replacing Enzi on HELP would be a big change for the better, too.  Saxby Chambliss shouldn't be chairing anything, and I like Harkin pretty well, so I like that change at Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.  Biden is certainly debateable, Baucus lackluster on Finance, and I wouldn't hold out great hope for Lieberman investigating BushCo vigorously at Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs (I suppose he would be ok at EPW--wish we still had John Glenn on Gov't Affairs), but Leahy would be a breath of fresh air on Judiciary.  Don't forget our Armed Services ranking member/chairman, Carl Levin, voted against the war in 2002.

I agree some of the new chairs would be kind of...blah, but on the whole I think it would be a noticeable improvement.
