Paul Begala Jumps on the Unity Train (will Michael be far behind?)

On Huffpo, Paul Begala has posted a touching tribute to Hillary Clinton, comparing her to the incomparable Jackie Robinson. Begala chronicles some of the nastier examples of sexism Hillary has overcome in her extraordinary campaign and jabs at the inadequacy of her handlers while praising her performance on the campaign trail.

But what follows, is encouraging and hopefully something other Clinton supporters will take to heart in time:

The Democratic Party has decided, wonderfully, bravely, remarkably, to double-down on history this election. And so Hillary's struggle against sexism has played out parallel to Barack Obama's graceful and courageous rise above racism. He, too, has endured taunts and threats and bigotry. He, too, has answered hatred with dignity. He, too, knows how Jackie must have felt.

So when Barack praises Hillary's tenacity, her trailblazing spirit, it is not patronizing, as some Hillary supporters have suggested. It is, I think, an empathetic expression of a powerful truth. Nobody -- not even her husband -- can fully appreciate what Hillary has overcome. Except Barack.

Congratulations to Senator Clinton and her supporters for an extraordinary and historic campaign.

Sorry for the short diary.  I was struck by Begala's statement.  And it seems I forgot the link.  Here it is:

As much as I hate

the idea of going to Huffpo, I'd like to read the whole statement.  Your excerpt reflects the class that I truly believe reflects the best of Senator Clinton's supporters.  Thanks for the diary.

Re: As much as I hate

Thanks gchaucer.  I'm an Obama supporter actually.  But yes, there's plenty of classy Clinton supporters we can look forward to working with come fall.

Re: As much as I hate

The commenter was not calling you classy, SAIEW, but rather Paul Begala.  No one would ever call you classy.  You are a unity troll.  I WANT DIVISION DAMN IT!!!

No Same this is a very nice diary...

Hillary is a great public servant and I hope that we will all work together to solve the great problems we have together.  Thanks again for this diary.  I guess Carville is coming next?

Re: Paul Begala Jumps on the Unity Train (will Mic

I had the pleasure of meeting Paul Begala when he spoke at my school a few months ago. He always comes across as extremely levelheaded.

"He always comes across as extremely levelheaded."

Says the "crazy drum guy".  I'm picturing Animal from the Muppet Show.

All jokes, comrade.

Hillary a Great Example - Deserves the VP Nod
If we were voting on guts and merit alone she would be our nominee. However the process is complex and not always fair but the fact is that Obama has won, however flawed the process. This in no way belittles Hillary's effort or the fact that she has captured the hearts and minds of so many people we need to vote for us in November. I think she should, at a minimum, be offered the VP slot. That ticket would doubtless be the strongest one we could put forward.
I hope Senator Obama realizes this and puts the past behind him and realizes that the hopes of so many people will be realized if Hillary is on the ticket.

Sadly, I don't think Hillary

is the roadblock -- politicians fight tooth and nail all the time, then can go out for a drink.  I am afraid that Bill is the problem.  He has soured this possibility irrevocably.  And he won't make it through the vetting process.

Re: Paul Begala Jumps on the Unity Train (will Mic

I have to disagree with Mr. Begala with this sentence:
<quote>Nobody -- not even her husband -- can fully appreciate what Hillary has overcome. Except Barack.</quote>

Obama has NEVER understood Hillary because he never liked her.  She was merely an obstacle to his road to inevitability.  Obama has been condescending, presumptive, manipulative and most important, a damn good grifter.  He wears the mask well, although it is starting to crack.

Begala is being nice, but really, most of us aren't buying this. Again, giving Obama more credit than he has earned or deserved.

And again, to insult Bill Clinton, to say that her husband doesn't understand Hillary is another example of the ongoing demonization of the only Democratic President in the last 28 years.

And I dare say, Bill Clinton will still be the only Democratic President in 2 decades after November 4th.

Do you really think Paul Begala is throwing Bill under the bus?

Re: Paul Begala Jumps on the Unity Train (will Mic

Your premise fails. You can understand something or someone you don't like.

There's not much else to say about your post. I'm past getting stressed over the rantings of people hoping for a Democrat to lose in Nov.

Re: Paul Begala Jumps on the Unity Train (will Mic

"Obstacle to his road to inevitability."

I don't think that that makes sense.

Michael Begala

I hope Michael Begala got banned from here. He's a cheap piece of garbage. Paul Begala, like 99% of Hillary supporters, is a complete class act. Blogger Michael Begala could use some lessons.
