The Rapture In New Hampshire

The Concord Monitor reports on the first visit by Sen.Barack Obama to New Hampshire. Obama drew wildly enthuisastic crowds at standing room only events. One longtime observer said such religious fervor had not been seen for a candidate in New Hampshire since Bobby Kennedy.

Re: The Rapture In New Hampshire

I don't believe Bobby Kennedy was ever a candidate in New Hampshire.  He certainly did not campaign there in 1968.  The ferver for Bobby that year was in California & midwestern states like Indiana & Nebraska.

yea, didn't RFK only jump into the race after McCarthy almost beat LBJ in the primary?

Re: The Rapture In New Hampshire

The Concord Monitor did not clarify that the quote apparently referred to appearances by Bobby Kennedy in other states but not in New Hampshire. It was Gene McCarthy's showing that drove LBJ out of the race and Kennedy jumped in shortly afterwards. That led to the split of the anti-war movement between McCarthy and Kennedy people.
