Ted Kennedy to Address Convention

In what can only be described as a serious morale boost to the Democratic Party as it continues to come together for the fall, it appears that Ted Kennedy will give a speech at the convention tomorrow night.

In a development that is sure to bring the house down, US Senator Edward M. Kennedy is expected to attend the Democratic National Convention, most likely to deliver a speech tomorrow night.

Kennedy is battling brain cancer, and his doctors are said to be worried that his treatment has compromised his immune system and that attending the convention could put him at further risk. Still, the senator has recently told people that he has a speech written for the convention and that he badly wants to come, pending a final medical consultation.

Buzz has built among Massachusetts politicos that Kennedy would come, and today a source close to the family confirmed that he had made a decision to come.

``He is definitely planning to be here,'' said the Kennedy family confidant. ``The whole Kennedy family will be in a special section. It should be quite moment.''

I expect that he will remind all of us about the ideals and history that make our party great, as well as what is at stake in the present election.  With any luck, he will be in sufficient health to attend the convention and help ensure that we are on the right track through November.

Re: rec'd of course.

Yes.  I saw a National Enquirer in the grocery store the other day, and if its medical prognosis is to be believed (and with its Edwards story - well, you know) ... this could be a very historic occasion.

Go Ted!

I really hope he can make it, for his sake and ours.  You know he would love it, and we'd all love to see him.

That's right Ted will remind us why this is so important. Cheers

Re: I want a good convention

Believe me, a happy family tops my list, too.  Maybe happy in a "the kids are going to college and 'hate' their parents but respect them deep down" kind of way, but happy regardless.

Re: I want a good convention

I have never been a great lover of the catfish... that being said I have to give you props for saying this. Welcome back to the fold friend here's hoping the whole family can get back together.

Re: Hey who's catfish? ;) n/t

Ahhh.  Norton mufflers, Kawasaki fork springs.  Interesting.

Catfish hopefully listens tonight.  There are more important things in this world then anger and self pity over a loss.

Re: Ted Kennedy to Address Convention

Just hope he doesn't stab Obama in the back like he did Carter...

Re: Ted Kennedy to Address Convention

Sad trombone music, my friend.  In all likelihood, Kennedy will die soon.

Re: Ted Kennedy to Address Convention

Your pettiness astounds and saddens me.

Teddy Kennedy is a dying man, a hero to many liberals, and a leader of our party.  Please, please consider your words and remember that they can never be taken back.

Re: I want a good convention

Well, dog my cats (and catfish?).

I do hope we are not being set up a la Charlie Brown....but, I am willing to take the leap.

Welcome back.
Thank you for joining the battle to see McCain defeated and our Democratic Candidate elected.

I, too, want our Democratic family united again.

Can we hold you to that? Because, you know, we will.

Re: I want a good convention

Assuming you are the spanish catfish, I know that you have (mostly) been reasonable and have been willing to discuss our disagreements with civility.

With that in mind, I know that this must have been a very tough decision.

I applaud you for sticking around, arguing your case, and in the end voting for the Democratic ticket.

I encourage you to not become silent when you have legitimate concerns with the party.  Dissent is key to the success of our best ideals.  We have a big tent and not everyone will always be happy.  Also, ignore the assholes.  There are many here who will continue to attack you.  Please have a thick skin until others tell them to stfu.  Thanks.

Re: I want a good convention

Is this snark?

Serious question. ( I'm serious, really)

Re: I want a good convention

This was not the best first step on this one.  "Is this snark" brings up bad memories for everyone.

Anyway, yeah I think they are serious.

I hope he'll be able to make it.  Teddy plus Michelle is total Must See TV.

I dunno

Last I heard he was filming a video speech and was spending as many days as he could on his boat, you know, living.  Caroline didn't say anything about a live speech on Meet the Press yesterday...

Would be a hell of a nice surprise, though.

Cheers for the big guy.

GATO PESCADO £11.95
The catfish has always been a south American
favourite, which we lightly grill with a hint of
garlic, then served with our chilli prawns and
crushed new potatoes, with mustard and dill.

Looks like we need to clean house again.

Safe trip, Ted

He needs to protect his immune system, which has been compromised by his chemo regimen.

If they can fly him in a private plane and keep close contact with others to a minimum, he should be ok.  Sadly, he won't be able to work the crowd or shake hands, but it will still be nice to have him there.

I still can't believe this is happening to him, we're losing so many great Dem leaders.

Re: Safe trip, Ted

I say screw it.  Go out with a bang.  Why stay inside only to prolong your life a few days, especially when you can do something to help change the world for the better.  I would speak even if it killed me the next day.

Nuts to that

I want Teddy there when Obama wins the election and, if possible, when he takes the oath of office.  Then he can look Destiny in the eye and say, "I win.  Eat it!"

by Dracomicron 2008-08-25 11:35AM | 0 recs
He can have it both ways

Seems that's what he's planning: a carefully planned trip to the convention, then return to treatment.

Go Ted!
