Our Tent May Be Too Large

Crossposted from Hillbilly Report.

One thing that Democrats have always proclaimed about our party is that we have a "big tent". Within this big tent we have always excepted many different people from different walks of life. However, recent developments should show us all that sometimes a "big tent" is not the greatest thing in the world, especially in the world of politics. Perhaps we should consider the fact that quite possibly our "big tent" has outgrown itself.

Mitch McConnell: Stifles the Chuckle of the Beast

Crossposted from Hillbilly Report.

Mitch McConnell. As a citizen of Kentucky I must apolegize yet again to the whole enlightened world that my state has elected and re-elected an evil, little man that works his ass off for the greediest and least patriotic among us all while representing the oppressive Communist government of China in the process. This man cares nothing of his country or the majority of the people within it as long as he has power he can wield to insure that 99% of Americans are at the mercy of the Chinese government and any Corporation with a checkbook.

Opinion: The Progressive Curse is Running Around in Circles

Crossposted from Hillbilly Report. It is no secret to many of us that this country has needed a Progressive direction to correct many of the problems it faces for some time now. I was born in 1970 and have seen exactly three Democratic Presidents in my life. The damage done by Conservative Presidents has been disasterous, and the Democrats elected have seemed to only keep us running around in circles while no real change is imminent to repair the damage.

Gingrich Shows Hypocrisy and MSA on Job Losses

Crossposted from Hillbilly Report.

Newt Gingrich seems to be suffering from a mass ailment among Repubicans, Tea-baggers, and Conservatives. It is called Mass Selective Amnesia, or MSA. Yes, with all their bluster and BS they have concurred a very bad case of MSA. It is usually caused by talking about the problems that have beset our country, including the economy and the huge unemployment numbers, but also occurs when talking about debt and deficits.

Economic Hardship Increases Need for the Employee Free Choice Act

Crossposted from Hillbilly Report.

With the ever-encompassing debate over healthcare another Progressive initiative that is greatly needed has been overlooked in the last several months. The Employee Free Choice Act is still desperately needed to even the playing field for American workers, and the recent trouble in the economy despite what some will say has only deepened the need. As pointed out in one great piece, with the current crashed economy it seems as if once again the only ones who are feeling the pinch is the working American.

Concession is NOT a Strategy

I hail from the red area of Western Kentucky as many know. This can have many frustrations in itself as we deal with not only Conservatives in our party who consistently vote Republican while registered Democrats, but we also are forced to deal with many in the national party ridiculing our unfunded efforts and writing us off as Democrats. I am sure many Democrats in other parts of the country feel the same way, ignored and powerless.

Labor Leader McEntee Ruffles Feathers in White House

Crossposted from Hillbilly Report.

You know, one thing that led to so much disaster in the Bush White House was that Republicans refused to speak out when their leader was wrong. Instead of trying to change some of the mistakes he was making, they rubber-stamped every single wish of that President. That was particularly dangerous to our country when the Republican Party controlled both the Congress and the White House. That attitude caused many of the failed policies that got us into two wars incompetently, and crashed the economy.

A Real Winning Democratic Strategy for 2010

Crossposted from Hillbilly Report.

One thing I keep seeing a lot about is how Democrats are going to lose in 2010. Everyone seems to be wandering what strategy they can come up with to hang onto the House and Senate. A lot of people want to predict doom and gloom for our party and they may be right. However, I believe the strategy they think we should impose misses the mark.

Is This Healthcare Reform Really the Model we Want??

Crossposted from Hillbilly Report.

The legislation the Senate Finance Committee will vote on next week relies heavily on Co-ops to help cover the uninsured. It discards a robust public option, or any public option completely. It also mandates that uninsured Americans must buy insurance with subsidies to help them do it. Senators Baucus and Conrad are intent on including this model into law and voting against any more Progressives ideas such as a Public Option and single-payer.

Who Tripled the Debt??

Crossposted from Hillbilly Report.

You know, President Obama has disappointed me in a few regards. First, backtracking on single-payer and then placing mandates over a public option in the healthcare debate. His policies in Afghanistan also leave much to be desired for the Progressive activist who hopes to quit wasting lives and treasure in that country on a failed policy started by a failed President. However, there are instances in which we must also defend President Obama.
