Steve Gilliard - Open Thread

Sad to see him go. Quite frankly, I was not that aware of him. I knew him as a link and realized after his death that I actually read more of his links than I thought. I think his name and Glen Greenwald's names were at the top of my linked article reading. I did not cultivate the habit of going to their blogs because of the nature of information overload which limits me to a few sites to habitually go to.  But when I see their names attached to a linked article, subconsciously, I would click on it because of the name. I was hoping someone who followed his work more closely would open up a dedicated diary on his life.  No one has. So here goes.

Say or link to whatever you please in his memory. Anecdotes are welcome.

Steve had a really long struggle with his health and it was a sad ending.

Re: Steve Gilliard - Open Thread

Steve was brilliant and is/was underappreciated in the blogosphere.

He really was a military historian.  Can't say that about many - or any - other bloggers.

He had actual experience working on political campaigns.

He had lived life and had wisdom that many bloggers haven't acquired yet.

I am upset.

Today, Atrios posted the addy of a pay pal account set up to help out the family of the deceased. I was not familiar with his blog, but contributing to the fund is a nice way for me to show my appreciation.
