A little perspective, please

...With over 500 land-based ICBMs, the United States can incinerate any region of a 4.5 billion year old planet within a mere 35 minutes. The Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles are only one leg of America's triad of doom. Submarine-based Trident nuclear missiles have the capacity to unleash Armageddon from the depths of the Earth's tranquil oceans. Maintaining a fleet of B-1, B-2, and B-52 long-range bombers, the USAF can also rain nuclear hell upon millions of unsuspecting "units of collateral damage"....

Someone Stole the Lamp

...There was a time when an average person could run for political office with an intent to do good for his constituents. He was elected by his peers and answerable to them. He made a reasonable salary to compensate him for his labors and, after a few years, went home to his farm or business. In due time, he passed away, an honored citizen....

The Most Evil People in the World

...So, as a psychologist, I am compelled to ask: what is it that seems to have motivated such people to have become so depraved, to have chosen a style of life so opposed to everything that Jesus taught? What is it that has led fundamentalists to become such a mean-spirited gathering of folks? What is it that such people have in common, that which might serve to explain why they have led such horrid lives? ...

Realities intertwined with undocumented immigration

...The problem is not just one of broken borders; or one of sovereignty; or one of national security; or one of economics; or one of loss of identity. And neither is the problem just one of racism; or one of exploitation; or one of lack of compassion. All aspects of the immigration issue need to be quantified and qualified before the overall issue can be resolved; none, absolutely zero, should be swept under the carpet. In this quest to solve the immigration problem, it's not expediency we are after, but comprehensiveness and accuracy....

Why We Need Immigrants

...Over the weekend we saw hundreds of thousands of immigrants, documented and not, marching in the streets. Their passion, their utter belief in their inalienable rights as humans was breathtaking. What was even more astonishing was their ability to join together, en masse, to organize themselves and speak truth to power. When is the last time we saw anything like that in this country? The Civil Rights Movement. Vietnam? Yes, but Vietnam War protesters were largely confined to colleges and universities...

The Easiest Way

...The house of cards built by our modern day politicians has reached its pinnacle of weakness. It founded itself on the shifting sands of half-truths (half-lies.) Any mason can tell you: "weaken the mortar and build a disaster." Now the challenge stands ready. A knife fight between the citizens of the United States that love their country as it once was and those that dare lie to deceive it and abuse it is in the making. The weapon of the lowly citizen? The keenly sharp knife of truth. This weapon is the fear and dread of the bloated, flabby, fatted politician....

If it Was Good Enough for Hitler

...Every little thing that can be done to chip away at the Constitution and Bill of Rights is being done by the Executive, the Judiciary and the Legislature. If the children are now to be taught only the approved curriculum, to be accepted without comment, we may wind up with the equivalent of a Hitler Jugend or a Soviet Young Pioneers here in the United States....

Muslim Witch-Hunting in Israel and the West

...Challenge state authority, in these cases in the U.S, even in the pursuit of bringing humanitarian aid to the desperately needy, speaking up publicly on their behalf, or aiding them in their pursuit of justice, and you risk being the victim of ruthless and relentless police state type persecution to put you in prison for a long time. Even if they fail to do it, they can break you financially and ruin your life. That's how the system works. Understand it and be prepared....

Why I Cannot Support The Troops In Iraq

...it is absolutely necessary that I ask who, in fact, should be held responsible for the ongoing destruction of a such a substantial portion of the infrastructure of Iraq, the death of half a million children during an earlier embargo, the killing of as many as 100,000 innocent Iraqis, the deaths of 2,500 American soldiers, and the horrible injury of at least 25,000....

America's "Noble" Cause...

Preserving its Right to Murder, Exploit, Torture, and Impoverish with Impunity.

I was involved in this exchange with a co-worker about two months ago.

"Why are we over there in Iraq?"

"To protect our freedoms."

"How are the Iraqis threatening our freedoms?"

"They attacked us on 9/11."

"If that is true, why are so many Americans against the war?"

"I don't know, but I think Cindy Sheehan and all the other war protestors should be rounded up and shot."

I was utterly perplexed at how this individual managed the obvious cognitive dissonance created by thinking that we are fighting to protect our "freedoms" while simultaneously holding the notion that non-violent dissidents "should be rounded up and shot".
