Polling Captains - ON THESE SHIELDS!

cross posted at DailyKos

In less than 24 hours, polling captains across the nation will take to the field carrying the Obama standard. This is our time. We have laid our plans carefully, but these plans will not survive contact with the enemy. It will be up to our captains, our eyes and ears on the ground, to adapt, improvise, and do everything in our power to deliver victory. So I say to you, leave it all on the field! Expect to wring every last ounce of will out of yourselves, stand your ground, and deliver us this day! Now is the time to show the steel in your spines, and the love in your heart!

Don't Get Comfortable

So back in 2004, after it had been clear we had been led by an idiot for four years, I was positive that the country would elect John Kerry and we could start working our way out of this mess.

We all know how that turned out. This time, even though the climate is right for us, we have chosen to make things more difficult for ourselves. We are trying to elect a black man president.

There are many out and out racists in this country who will not vote for him. There are some of Hillary's supporters who are too angry and will not vote for him. There are a large group of religious conservatives who would (and did) elect a chimp as long as it was anti-choice.

This election is by no means assured. We cannot afford to get comfortable. It is time to roll up our sleeves and get to work - the future of our country depends on it.

Be Prepared - A Call to the Yellow Dogs

Here is the bottom line:

Eventually, we will have a nominee. Somehow, progressives are going to have to come together and put a Democrat in office. Both Clinton supporters and Obama supporters are engaged in policies of scorched earth - they are saying things that will make it very difficult to reach across the gap.

This is a call to all the Yellow Dogs: for Obama supporters, what are the talking points that you will use to try to convince other Obama supporters to vote for Clinton should she win the nomination? For Clinton supporters, what will you say to other Clinton supporters to convince them to vote for Obama should he win?

I heard a Michigan Republican this morning on NPR practically giddy about our nomination fight. Enough is enough - as a community, let us put together contingencies for either candidate, so we are prepared to close ranks when the time comes.
