Daily Obama Not Enough: Daily Kos Infiltrating MyDD?

By this time, I'm sure we're all aware that many Daily Kos members who support Hillary Clinton have abandoned the site, as a result of the toxic environment created, cultivated, fometed, and pushed by Markos himself, against us Clinton supporters.

As many of you are also aware, the site is no longer about electing Democrats, but about destroying the DNC and replacing it with Markos and his 50 state strategy, so he can be the new breed of Democratic strategist, and make the kind of money in the next election cycle that Mark Penn is making in this one.

Apparently, the members of Daily Kos are not content with changing just Daily Kos.  They want to overtake the content of all other progressive blogs, get them to give up progressive politics altogether, and become extensions of Daily Kos.

Don't believe me.  Take a look at this diary currently on Daily Kos:

Help Turn MyDD and Talkleft into Pro-Obama sites!

No more intentional silence, or similar drama - let's meet with our net-neighbors and counter some of the meaningless hatred that exists out there.

Sure, it's hostile territory - but if a lot more people put together just a little bit of tact and friendliness, the meaningless hostility itself can become a common enemy once again.

Isn't that the real meaning behind the idea of 'love thy enemy'? (Matthew 5:43-44)

MyDD registration page

Talkleft registration page

In the delegate race, Obama has a significant lead - but in terms of online representation, Obama has an even greater lead.

This makes the online Hillary Clinton support sites somewhat insecure and paranoid, to say the least, and willing to jump to crazy stunts (recent 'strikes', insane rhetoric) to force themselves to see hope when online.

So, in response to the intentional unilateral silence of Clinton bloggers, the appropriate response should not be more hatred and isolation - it should be love, and embrace!

I want more positive, informative pro-Obama posts over at MyDD and Talkleft.  I want more non-troll posts inspiring actual hope in these places - I want the exact opposite of a 'strike' or further insults.  No one should refer to these sites insultingly, but rather should work to counter incorrect assumptions wherever they lie.

If this succeeds, the same honest rhetoric in hostile territory techniques can be used in sites like HillaryIs44, and even in pro-McCain websites.

Don't allow other Obama supporters to post alone.  If you see a friendly topic elsewhere, do what you can to uprate it, and to constructively add to the topic without breaking the other rules.

That's right.  We're not content with ruining Daily Kos with our groupthink mentality and ganging up on others.  We won't be content until we take over all progressive blogs, and push supporters of any other Democratic candidate away.

The funny thing is that if I had it my way, the opposite would occur.  This place should just be the de-facto site for Hillary supporters, while Daily Kos should be the de facto site for anyone who wants to destroy the DNC as much as Markos does.

No one is changing anyone else's mind at this point, so why are we arguing with or otherwise engaging each other on these issues?

Re: Tips for the blockquote illiterate?

For some reason, blockquotes did not work when I posted the diary, but they did when I edited it with the same commands?!?!?!

We Hillary supporters

are their raison d'etre.  Now that we have abandoned Daily Coss, they miss us.  I fear they will chase us to very ends of blogosphere.

no, it's true. if we didn't exist, it would be necessary to invent us.

by campskunk 2008-03-18 09:34AM | 0 recs

perhaps we don't really exist.  Maybe one of them created us to be their foils.

Re: Daily Obama Not Enough: Daily Kos Infiltrating

Ignore them on every thread (and you can tell who they are) and they will eventually go away. Look how quickly they got bored over there at DKos; they are only content when they can engage in uncivil discourse, so now they are trying to come to other sites to fight and argue. What a bunch of angry people they are.

Re: Daily Obama Not Enough: Daily Kos Infiltrating

Bob Johnson, SinbadSinbad, and Zonk come to mind.  I posted a similar sentiment yesterday.  All of the Hillary supporters on Daily Kos are gone, and the rest at Daily Kos are free to hold hands, sing Kumbaya, and dance around pictures of Markos and Barack Obama.

Instead, they come here to continue baiting and arguing with Clinton supporters, thus proving themselves to have been nothing more than trolls that are really not interested in politics at all.

This is good advice. I'm not going to respond to another one of those negative nasty comments.  They repeat the same lies over and over. And it's getting really old.  I hope it works, and by ignoring them they go away.

We walked out and they are BORED with themselves.

Pretty crazy isn't it? Obama is supposed to be

all about healing divides, bringing everyone together, and holding hands to get things done.

The 50 state strategy espoused by Markos is supposed to be all about getting everyone involved in the process, instead of just a few insiders.

So, why is it that Obama supporters and Daily Kos members are only interested in shedding the Democratic party of approximately half of its voters, contributors, and supporters?

Because that's what Markos makes me want to do when I read his posts - either leave the Democratic Party, or simply give up on politics in favor of Britney Spears.

What kind of shitty Democratic strategist is that?

How is Markos helping the party if I voted Democratic the last few elections, but vote Republican in 2008 or just stay home?!?!?!

And he makes fun of Mark Penn?  Get the fuck out of here!  With his millions of page views, Markos has done more to damage the Democratic Party and its chances in 2008 than Mark Penn or even Karl Rove.

He's fractured the party in half, and then gloated about it like it was a victory.

Re: Daily Obama Not Enough: Daily Kos Infiltrating

Believe me, I miss some of the sharper pro-Obama posters.  Positive comments are always welcome in my book.

The problem is that you have too many people like kid oakland, who will write marvelous, uplifting essays about Barack Obama with one breath, and then turn around and trash Hillary Clinton with the next one.  They apparently have no idea what a turnoff it is.

It seems like there are very few people who can manage to consistently skip the hate part and just stay focused on the positive.

Hooray for dialogue!

I'm an Obama supporter who first came to MyDD back when Edwards was the flavor-du-jour on DailyKos. As such, I sympathize with folks who are upset by some of the less thoughtful contributors -- I've been on the other side of it myself.

These days, I'm more likely to feel rankled by the mood at MyDD, but I maintain readership and participation in both sites, because I don't want to lose track of what people are thinking and talking about -- especially people who don't agree with me. (I drop by FreeRepublic now and then for the same reason.)

I really appreciate Steve's comment, because it cuts through an all-too-common tendency in these blogwars to cast those of differing opinion as beyond reason. I have a question for Steve, or for anybody else who might want to answer it: Can you recommend some specific guidelines for a more productive discussion?

I believe it's possible to have an intelligent and even critical conversation about the candidates, but only if it rises above the level of name-calling, sloganeering, and accusations of bad faith (including allegations of sexism and racism).

To that end, I wonder if both DailyKos and MyDD weren't already predisposed to this kind of ugliness by some unfortunate social norms in our communities: Bandying about terms like "Rethuglican" amps up a counter-productive tribalism and turns off critical thinking. It's exactly this kind of reflexive, irrational animosity which, once turned outward, now divides our communities.

I've noticed an uptick...

there do seem to be more of the old pro-Obama crowd that is here from Daily Kos.  Same level of invective and gloating, etc, etc.

Doesn't surprise me if it's true.  Many geeky young males with nothing better to do and they seem to think that blogging is like a video game where they have to "win" and score.

Of various new readers/posters as to these two web site's histories is highly amusing.

Each time

Every time i post a comment against Obama...i immediately get comments:  "Fuck off", "Go away troll",  "Get out of here."  It is soooo hostile.  Many of my comments are deleted just a few minutes after i post them.  Daily Kos will never be the same if Obama tanks.  Markos will jump off a building.

Re: Each time

Really?  At DK?  What have you posted?  I searched you over there, cand find a single thing?  Different User ID?

I've seen plenty of Obama criticism over there, but the hidden comments are usually deservedly TR'd.

I know that's not always the case.  Nuts on both sides, to be sure.

Group think cuts both ways

Some of the more obnoxious Obama supporters are excessively hostile to Clinton supporters, but as an Obama supporter who sometimes stops by this site, the bile and venom is just as bad here toward Obama supporters.

There shouldn't be talk of "infiltration," these are open sites and all should feel free to read and comment.  Personally, I wish things were a bit more civil towards supporters of both sides, but this is a heated primary campaign and that isn't likely.  That concern aside, it's a free internet, and people can go where they please.

by dmfox 2008-03-18 09:06AM | 0 recs
Re: Group think cuts both ways

Look i respect your opinion but nothing here is a bad as i read at dkos.  What goes goes on there is disgusting and many of the comments to HRC supporters are both profine and personal.

Last night i read a pro-HRC thread and nearly 1/3 of the comments in the middle include the word "fuckk" something her???

Just my thoughts.

Who died and made you king?

I don't see anything in "About MyDD" stating this is a website for Hillary Clinton supporters.  In fact, as I recall Hillary has never been the most popular candidate among MyDD visitors according to straw polls that were run into the summer (http://www.mydd.com/tag/Straw%20polls).

This is the Internet and this site is supposed to be "a group blog designed to discuss campaigns, the progressive movement, and political power."  You and others may have fled DailyKos because the 'netroots' don't support your candidate, but that does not mean you have the ability to banish those who disagree with you.

DailyKos did not ban you or Hillary supporters.  You left.  Now you want MyDD to belong to Hillary supporters alone.  It seems you are the one who is trying to embrace groupthink.

by PantsB 2008-03-18 09:10AM | 0 recs
Here's an idea...

If you really believe that "no one is changing anyone else's mind at this point" why not stop all the criticizing of fellow democrats and focus on McCain? Oh, wait... because this site has now been infiltrated by people who would consider voting for McCain. Talk about a change.

"I want more positive, informative pro-Obama posts over at MyDD."

So far, kos's minions aren't following through on this part of his directive! by any other name, their true colors prevail.....and they're not very pretty colors either.

Re: Daily Kos Infiltrating

also , I think their endgame is just to make it so unpleasant for us here, that we eventually just give up MyDD too.  I just had that experience with Andre Walker's new diary on DNC rules.  The kos types zipped in like nasty horse flies and made the atmosphere so unpalatable, I didn't want to participate.
