So Kantor, Stephanapoulos and Carville are standing in a room...

This is why you never play gotcha in the age of YouTube. This is not a slam on Hillary, she is obviously not in the room and I know how politicos are. Hell, I live the real world and know how bullpens are, but I also know about cameras.

Ever since the heir-apparent to the Republican nomination, George Allen, got macacaed in Virgina, you would think every politician and their surrogates would be on high alert for cameras. See, virtual pundits, say like bloggers, are nothing more than political paparazzis for the new era of campaign coverage. It's very TMZish.

So here we have Kantor, Stephanapoulos and Carville going over the polling details for Indiana:

Uh Kantor, there's a freaking camera right in your face. You can't say sorry afterwards, because there's this thing called editing. They will just edit:

Indiana People are shit.

And loop it:

Indiana People are shit.

Indiana People are shit.

Indiana People are shit.

Maybe add some slightly appropriate music and you got the next big YouTube masterpiece. More people get their "news" from YouTube these days than newspapers and tv combined. If you think I am kidding, step out of the blogosphere bubble and ask around.

Going into the general, whoever wins this crazy thing, should have an all hands on deck meeting and explain that whatever you say can instantly be seen by the masses.

There will be no MSM filter or framing, it will be raw and right there in front of GOd and everybody.

Kantor is a freaking moran, especially for such a high ranking campaign officer.

So Hillary, if you are listening, remind your people that YouTube is the voice of the rabble, and if speak ill of them, they will post it.

Over and over and over again.

Re: So Kantor, Stephanapoulos and Carville are sta

I hope this "issue" goes the way of the dodo... no offense to that particular bird... but this hurts Democrats... period.

And one diary is certainly enough to cover it... and there already is one...  Of course, I have said that about manufactured outrage before to zero avail on this site.

by JenKinFLA 2008-05-02 06:58AM | 0 recs
I think we're way beyond that point on this site

and in this race:(

Though Obama won't bring it up even if they know about it. And I'm sure links flooded the campaign inbox.

Re: So Kantor, Stephanapoulos and Carville are sta

This isn't about manufactoryed outrage, but nice deflect.

It's about the party leadership who has not only been unable to implement party policy, but are now quickly being shown to be less than media savvy.

You want these knuckleheads leading us into the General battle?

I sure don't.

Except maybe Carville, always have loved that cajun.

Re: So Kantor, Stephanapoulos and Carville are sta

Honestly, when people are struggling to pay for grocieries, fuel, and mortgages, I don't think a clip from a movie about the 1992 campaign is going to make much of a dent.

Of course, I have a tendency to give the voters way too much credit.

Oh I so agree.

But remember P. T. Barnum, and this election is quite a circus.

I'm actually starting to miss John Edwards, at least he lied about stuff I cared about.

I disagree, I would want to hear her opinion on it

This was really offensive. Why would you appoint an elitest scum bag like this to be commerce secatary. This is what dirty politics gets us , DIRTY PEOPLE. Then we complain when they get in office and dont work for us. This is relavent. I think the people of Indiana would like to know why they are been called "SHIT" and "Worthless White N|@GERs" Thats some really harsh language and he said they were winning there. What kind of people are these? I never knew politicians had such open contempt for the people that elect them!

That's the point.  Remember those "bitter" comments and how "offended" the folks of PA where. Well the Hoosiers aren't going to be too happy about this.

Re: So Kantor, Stephanapoulos and Carville are sta

This thing is 16 years old!!! - it was a different time and a different place and a different campaign.

HRC had no control over these people and this event at this time. This is apples and oranges compared to the activities and antics of some of Senator Obama's associates.

Re: So Kantor, Stephanapoulos and Carville are sta

Actually Doug Coe is her spiritual advisor. Kantor is an informal advisor to the campaign. Like Wright I guess. The Clintons' have been friends with him since before this video was shot and they were still friends with him after.

Re: So Kantor, Stephanapoulos and Carville are sta

It's about message control.

Some of the old politicos are not up to the new virtual boundaryless new media.

I agree, both camps are guilty.

Going intot he genergal, these kinds of antics have to stop.

I mean, my goodness, the camera is right htere in his face.

I doubt the media will touch this

but it is kind of funny how the media put on loops of Wright's greatest hits in which Obama wasn't there on the TV 24/7 but they won't touch this clip.

It is kind of funny how the Clinton team viewed Indiana though:  "white n***ers".

Just let us know the statute of limitations

I might see your point...might, if Hillary hadn't told me that I couldn't choose my family but I could choose my pastor.  I'm assuming you can apply that to senior campaign advisers as well.  But you're right, it was 16 years ago.  What's the cutoff?  Obama doesn't deal with or support Farrakhan but Sen. Clinton brought him up in debate.  Obama didn't endorse anything from Ayers but Sen. Clinton brought him up in debate.

16 years ago or last week, this would be headline news if Pastor Wright, Michelle Obama or any other person from that camp had said the same thing and you know it.

by niksder 2008-05-02 07:14AM | 0 recs
Re: Just let us know the statute of limitations

Thats funniest part about the "he wouldn't be my pastor" line to Scaife.  Couldn't Obama easily had said ... "Michelle wouldn't be my wife if she did those things to me."  It works both ways.  Clinton fails to recognize that.

Oh please, they are bringing crap up

about Obama, for his association with a Church for 20 years.
Georgia boy just did a debate with Hillary attacking Obama.

You HIllary people amaze me, you are just as much hypocrits as GWB and Company.

I hope the media pounces on Hillary and George S, James Carville, and the idiot that used these words.  At least Rev. Wright told the truth about what America has done in the past.  HIV not sure????

So now its a differnt time for HIllary, oh please.  Give me a break.....

by pjamerica 2008-05-02 08:15AM | 0 recs
Oh please what good for the goose is good for the

gander.  Kandor is helping HIllary in this campaign, he just said so, Georgie S. boy just did a debate with Hillary.

What a sick argument.  The media has bitched about Rev. Wright 24/7 for the last month, because of relationship of 20 years with Obama.

Your argument is another place another time.  Oh give me a break.

Please God let the media run with this 24/7 for a month.........

Re: IF the audio is authentic

Naw, this happens in bullpens.

See men like Kantor, polling data is like crack.

Maybe even meth.

Like 100 Christmases for a sugar and caffiened up 7 year old.

He gets giddy and he starts talking like a drunk at 2am, never watching his words.

And the point is, in this new media age, if you are part of the campaign, and you see even a camera phone around, you cannot pull stunts like this.

or, this happens.

It's about message control in the new media age, and Kantor is epic fail.

What has Kantor in 1992 got to do with Clinton in 2008.

I was told to get the fuck off of Daily Kos and go back to MyDD.

I started beating the streets for Democrats with my dad and the Detroit Firefighters Union in the 1960's.  Now, to these new democrats I'm just a piece of shit.

Re: So Kantor, Stephanapoulos and Carville are sta

From the Huff Po article referenced on the Clinton site (emphasis added): LINK

"In August in 92, we had to make a decision," Mickey Kantor the former U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Clinton adviser, and free trade advocate recalled for the Huffington Post. "President Clinton had to make a decision as governor, whether or not he would support [George H.W. Bush's] NAFTA, and of course he did... Hillary Clinton was one of the great skeptics in the discussion as to whether he should do. So she was always skeptical beginning in 1992 and onward."

This has less to do with Clinton

This has less to do with Clinton (none / 0)

and more to do with WAY OVERPAID consultants that the Clintons love to hire.

In the end they rake in millions and turn on the Democratic party and American people every chance they get.

The list goes on and on.

Mark Penn
Dick Morris
James Carville
George Stephanopolous
Lanny Davis
Blumenthal

Anyone care to add to the list?

Only advisors that we paid money to, only to have them feed the right wing and crush Democrats.

One the bright side, we haven't heard from Bob Shrum this election cycle.

All these old bulls need to be put out to pasture, their skills are antiquated.

by pinche tejano 2008-05-02 07:16AM | 0 recs
Except on AIr Aemrica and Meet the Press.

Shrum is an old buddy of Mark Green, who has him frequently as a guest on his weekly radio hour, and Pumpkinhead has had him on the MTP panel several times in recent months.

But it's good that no campaign was foolish enough to hire him.

That neither Steph nor Carville said a word. I am an AA and if someone used the word "chink" or "kike" in front of me, I wouldn't just sit there like nothing happened.

Either way, I have a feeling it won't be the "white n1gger" part as much as the "those people are shit" that can cause damage. At the end of the day it hurts all Democrats though. Only reinforces the whole Dems as elitist attack.

I support Barack Obama, but how old is this tape anyway. James Carville doesn't even work on her campaign, and George Stephanopolous, God, I think I saw J. Edgar Hoover in the background. I understand the thoughts of Kantor are neanderthal at best but, come on. We're reaching here fellas. If we want to discount Reverend Wright as old rhetoric, we must take the high road on this. As ol grandma Sexton used to say, "If you lay in the weeds with dogs, you gonna get pissed on" a wise woman. This is a serious issue worth discussing

This is first time we here them say what they really think about the people. It is relavent. Is Hillary and her team gonna just give lip service or do they really care. Of course they will pass some bills to help the people but if they are spending 10 to 1 in favor special interest over the people it MATTERS! Exactly how much contempt for the people is going on in the Clinton camp. We heard what she said about Missispi vs Iowa. It seems like pattern and certainly suspected it from the way she felt about Obama supporters. As if Obama supporters were a bunch of idiots or something.

For the record I would prefer that discussion be confined to the blogs not in the mass media per say. Heck if she wins we need her strong as possible.
