Dream Team '08?

This is completely hypothetical, and just for fun, but what would be the dream team you'd assemble if the Dems were to win the 2008 election?

Here are mine:

President: Russ Feingold
Vice President: Mark Warner

Attorney General: Janet Napolitano
Secretary of State: Bill Clinton
Secretary of the Treasury: George Mailath (University of Pennsylvania professor of economics)
Secretary of Defense: Carl Levin
Secretary of Homeland Security: Robert Menendez
Secretary of the Interior: Brian Schweitzer
Secretary of Agriculture: Jon Tester
Secretary of Commerce: Kent Conrad
Secretary of Labor: Ron Ehrenberg (Cornell University professor of Industrial and Labor Relations)
Secretary of Transportation: Earl Blumenauer
Secretary of HUD: Kathleen Sebelius
Secretary of Energy: Paul Joskow (MIT professor of economics and management)
Secretary of Health and Human Services: Tom Harkin
Secretary of Education: Rush Holt
Secretary of Veterans' Affairs: John Murtha

Re: Dream Team '08?

You only have two women in there, honestly? Plus, except for the two women and Menendez it's all white men. Maybe you wanna rethink that. After all, a cabinet should reflect the makeup of the country. And nowadays we thankfully have enough women in politics to choose from.

Otherwise I find it's fun to think about and not so easy if you wanna fill all positions. In March I had a similar idea and posted my dream cabinet on DailyKos. Though I left out the presidential slot. I think I would now make a change here or there. But otherwise I still like it. I've also got Bill Clinton and Brian Schweitzer, though not in the same positions. Otherwise the makeup of my cabinet is totally different. Maybe you wanna take a look:

Re: Dream Team '08?

...you're right. I didn't even realize my "cabinet's" lack of diversity. Rethinking...

President: Russ Feingold
Vice President: Mark Warner

Attorney General: Janet Napolitano
Secretary of State: Bill Clinton
Secretary of the Treasury: George Mailath (University of Pennsylvania professor of economics)
Secretary of Defense: Carl Levin
Secretary of Homeland Security: Robert Menendez
Secretary of the Interior: Brian Schweitzer
Secretary of Agriculture: Jon Tester
Secretary of Commerce: Jan Schakowsky
Secretary of Labor: Ron Ehrenberg (Cornell University professor of Industrial and Labor Relations)
Secretary of Transportation: Kweisi Mfume
Secretary of HUD: Kathleen Sebelius
Secretary of Energy: Paul Joskow (MIT professor of economics and management)
Secretary of Health and Human Services: Barbara Mikulski
Secretary of Education: Raul Grijalva
Secretary of Veterans' Affairs: John Murtha

Also, I think I would add these two cabinet-level positions:

Secretary of Science: Rush Holt
Secretary of Peace: Barbara Lee

And:

Chief of Staff: Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Re: Dream Team '08?

Your second version looks very interesting. Especially like the Chief of Staff. That's a really good pick.

Do you have any favourite for EPA?

What do you think of my picks?

Re: Dream Team '08?

I completely agree with your choice of Al Gore to head the EPA.

I thought your choices were superb...I especially liked choosing Shirley Franklin to head HUD and Barbara Boxer for HHS...I didn't think of those two. Also, I think Bill Richardson would make a fantastic Secretary of State, and Max Cleland is a natural choice for VA.

Re: Dream Team '08?

Also, reading over jed's post reminded me I need a UN ambassador.

Frankly, I'd appoint John Danforth. Even though he is a moderate Republican, he has a certain gravitas about him that I find irresistable. He is a wise and principled man, who I think would be an outstanding representative of the United States on the world stage.

Re: Dream Team '08?

...and since memory failed me earlier, I now realize why John Danforth seemed to me an ideal candidate for the post heh ;-).
