As a fellow minority- I will request my brethen to stop blaming whites

I keep seeing these dairies with themes accusing whites for things called a black blogsphere vs being called afrosphere ( god what an assassin thought that diary was) or lack of one's economic situations in the US.

I'm calling my brethren to stop looking for excuses by blaming whites- for our country gives us plenty of opportunities. Rather look introspectively at our culture that permeates laziness and lack of ambition. Yes there is cultural difference in how kids are brought up and exposed to thinking in non white houses.

Look at the 3rd world nations in the world and you will see its run by the minority race. Many such nations are rich in oil and diamonds and resources ( natural). In spite of that such countries are mired in poverty and sloth and self eradication.

FACT: 99.99% of 'developed' countries are run by whites

( understand the meaning of developed vs 'under developed' status before you debate my statement).

Again, 99.99% of wealthy , developed countries are white countries.  .01% being oil rich middle east countries and then to they fail in many such countries within the middle east, in spite of the oil resources, because they are caught up in religion = constitution.

Folks,  this country has given minorities plenty of opportunities in the modern era and yet we do not blame failures in our cultural upbringing and thinking but rather blame the whites. We throw the " oh because I' not white I got reprimanded or given a hard time".

I may not be able to hail a cab every time in NY city but shit for sure I'm able to get a great job through great education.

But we are caught more in "Not being able to hail a cab", as our excuse/central theme of life in the US. and that's what we pass on to our next generation.

Don't get me wrong there are many valid issues to be angry about.  But as we move forward with an African American President, its time to take a good look at us and our actions vs blame whites.  I know that Bill Cosby and I are on the same page.

White development

May I point out that white development historically depended on the exploited labor, subjection and/or eradication of non-white peoples.  The effects of these initiatives in many cases undermined indigenous cultures and their own processes of development.  Karl Marx, a great admirer of capitalism's capacity for modernization and economic productivity, as well as much of the cultural development that accompanied these aspects was appalled at what the British development of South Asia had wrought upon its population.  He argued that in the hands of colonial developers "progress," something he unabashedly admired, resembled a "hideous, pagan idol, who would not drink the nectar but from the skulls of the slain."

Whites developed this country on the backs of Africans, Chinese, Irish-Catholics (considered "black" in the 19th century), Italians (also considered "black" during the 19th century), and has built a global economy that outsources manufacturing to non-white environments where despicable working conditions are the rule.  We currently depend on a non-citizen labor pool that is largely non-white to do menial labor for substandard wages.

I think I understand the point of your diary.  But it's important to remember these contexts as well.

Maybe because
it is not only racist, it's also bigoted.
Since you rec'd this piece of shit diary, you must agree with the diarist that gays, AAs, women, and other minorities should just "get over it'?
You sure weren't taking that tack the other day about Rick Warren, were you?

Re: Maybe because

where do you get I said anything about women or gays from this. I have another diary on this page very pro gay rights and marriage.  Where do get I attack AA's specifically? race minorities encompass more than AA's . take it from this AA . AND where is the get over it factor, it's more of  get with it in the positive direction.

Surely you have a slightly higher intellect to comprehend the diary.

by MumbaiBurns 2008-12-20 04:33PM | 0 recs
Re: Maybe because

You said minorities, did you not? Last time I checked, gays and women were considered minorities.

Folks,  this country has given minorities plenty of opportunities in the modern era

You really need to read what you wrote, because if that was supposed to be a positive diary, your lack is in communicating the positive part of it.

I didn't see that here:

Rather look introspectively at our culture that permeates laziness and lack of ambition.

Here's another gem:

Look at the 3rd world nations in the world and you will see its run by the minority race. Many such nations are rich in oil and diamonds and resources ( natural). In spite of that such countries are mired in poverty and sloth and self eradication.

By the way, can you tell me of any 3rd world country that is being run by the "minority"?  Because assuming from your statement that you're talking about Africa (poor communication skills there, I must say), blacks are not the "minority" in any country in Africa.

by skohayes 2008-12-20 05:22PM | 0 recs
Re: Maybe because

Btw I appreciate you quoting me . because for some reason the " my way or high way crowd here have " zero'ed " my comment above.

By minorities I should be more clear that I speak about race . This diary was an extension of my other one, just a couple below it ( same thought process ), where I speak of race only.

However you are correct that I should been more clear in what I meant in this diary.

3rd world countries compromise of many non black countries too.  Please look up countries designated under 3rd world status on the net. Most of them ( not all) also tend to be under 'non aligned' country status.

But do you dispute my larger point that its not just white rule that puts us race minorities down, its us doing to us all over the world.

My positive was to get off the negative and appreciate all this country now gives us. To teach the next generation how you have the same opportunities and not just how you were not picked up by cab in NY - as your gripe towards this country and future life/opportunities within. .

by MumbaiBurns 2008-12-20 05:41PM | 0 recs
Re: Maybe because
Actually, I quoted your diary, not your comment.
I'm aware of the many 3rd world countries that are comprised of non-black citizens, I used countries in Africa because you seemed to be pointing that way in the quote I included above.
As I said above, these countries aren't run by minorities, but they are and have been exploited by whites for hundreds of years.
What you don't seem to understand is that many of these countries have suffered from decades of civil wars, harsh dictators and poor governance. It's stupid to blame situations like that on race, because it ignores the situations that caused the wars, caused the poverty, caused the refugees, etc.
When you have wars, men die, leaving their families desitute and unable to fend for themselves. Livestock are killed and crops and houses are burned, with women and their children unable to get the means to replace them. Women cannot afford to have their children educated and millions of children grow up without learning how to read or write.
It has nothing to do with race.

One thing I'll never understand about MyDD

It seems like every time I visit this site, there's some absurd diary on the rec list that constructs a straw man simply so it can be knocked down. Usually said diaries revolve around the supposed demonization of Hillary Clinton. Whether or not such a thing occurred during the primary is debatable. Whether or not such a thing is happening right now? Well it's not. Yet the straw man is built and torn down anyway.

So before jumping into the substance of your statement I must ask... "Who the hell brought this up in the first place?"

Has there been some recent spike in black people blaming white people for their circumstances?

With that question out of the way, I have to say that you're absolutely full of shit. Certainly many black people have been given many opportunities. For instance, I'm half black and half white. I grew up in an affluent suburb of Chicago, went to a really good public school and was able to attend college. I consider myself well-educated, I don't have a history of criminal activity or a problem with drugs or violence. I know many other black people or mixed people with similar circumstances.

HOWEVER, to argue that their isn't institutionalized racism and de facto segregation in this country which disproportionately harms people of color is fucking absurd. Our criminal justice system coupled with the prison-industrial-complex destroyed the lives of SOME people of color.

So I suppose my next question is, who are you actually talking to? Are you talking to the folks who are affected by institutional racism and de facto segregation? Because I'll tell you right now, don't waste your breath, they're not reading this blog. Are you talking to black people or people of color who have overcome racism? If so, they don't need you to talk down to them, they understand exactly what's going on.

Let me make this as clear and simple as possible. Shut.The.Fuck.Up.

PS. I dare you take your BS over to the "afrosphere" and see what they have to say to you.

It's becoming apparent

That you probably aren't really AA. Not that that should matter, in general, except when it's used as a "cover" for racism. At least some of the more obvious bigots take their lumps.

It's a good lesson though, to remember that even the Progressive movement includes people like yourself. We're not saints.

Re: Japan isn't a developed country?

Huh - I suggest you do the math on number of countries in the world vs the ones you suggested.

Even if I give you Turkey and south Africa and south Korea( who's military spending is funded through US aid).

by MumbaiBurns 2008-12-20 05:28PM | 0 recs
Re: Japan isn't a developed country?

Do the math?  Don't mind if I do.

Your claim:
FACT: 99.99% of 'developed' countries are run by whites
...would require that there be 10,000 "developed" countries, of which 9,999 were run by whites.  Given that you name four developed countries that you admit aren't run by whites, your math would require that there be at least 39,996 developed countries run by whites - and that's assuming that we don't find more developed countries not run by whites.

Please name all 39,996 countries.

Actually, the OP needs to name 59,994

developed countries run by white people, since I named 6 developed/first world economy countries (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Turkey, and Israel) that aren't majority white.

Re: Can you link a diary

Just last week. afrosphere  vs white (claimed) blogsphere.

by MumbaiBurns 2008-12-20 07:23PM | 0 recs

Did you even read it?

It didn't blame whites for anything, it made the point that afro-centric issues do not get the attention on white blogs that they do on black blogs.

To some degree, this is to be expected. Subgroup X will always get more attention in an X-centric "sphere". While I think the tone was much more militant that I would have taken (and far more paranoid), the point is somewhat obvious.

How that prompted this proto-Aryan math-challenged diatribe of yours is much less obvious.

You don't sound African American to me.

Your choice of terms and phraseology are a little too similar to that of my South Asian friends. Throw in your familiarity with newspapers and other affairs of the subcontinent (H1Bs) prominent in your commentary, and your identity is even more obvious. Your handle also implies it, but that would be too easy.

Hint: "AA" doesn't stand for Asian-American, as I'm sure you're aware. Your co-opting of that term isn't clever, it's duplicitous.

It's one thing for a new immigrant to admire the West and revel in its conveniences. It's entirely another thing to assume you even begin to understand the horrors and sacrifices of the civil rights struggle that bought for you the very freedoms that allow you to strut around here, preaching to and passing summary judgement on lives you scarcely know. For a better feel of what they've had to go through, I recommend you spend a few days in some small town - preferably near the KY-WV border.

Not being able to hail a cab will be, I suspect, the least of your problems. Come back and preach to us then, will ya?

Re: As a fellow minority-

One of the leading developed economies is Japan, which in case you haven't noticed is not a 'white' country. So much for the 99.99% thesis.

The key to being an advanced country seems to be that in the last 150 years, the country was not a colony of some great power.

by DaleA 2008-12-21 08:08AM | 0 recs
Re: As a fellow minority-

First you are missing the larger point of always blaming others and not looking at ourselves and second so I'm off by 1 or 2 % but if you take the world as a whole and all countries within the percentage overwhelmingly shows that we are quite capable of undoing ourselves without whites being blamed.
