Endorsement Roundup for NYC Sept. 15 Primary Election

I have spent some time tracking down the endorsements of various groups and papers that represent a broad cross section of NYC...or as broad as I could. I generally selected groups I have respect for or contact with for other reasons or that I consider of some importance to New Yorkers in general. This is not comprehensive and I am not sure I even tracked down all the endorsements from some of the groups. I should also note that I am not covering the mayoral primary largely because I am fine with either Thompson or Avella. I am also only covering a sub set of City Council races that I consider most important. It would be impossible for me to cover them all. I include my own endorsements first, though of course you are free to consider my opinion as useless and skip to the real endorsements. I hope this is helpful to all New Yorkers still undecided about who to vote for in Tuesday's primary. Some polling info and predictions can be found at the end.

Disclaimer: some of these candidates are personal friends. This includes Norman Siegel, Josh Skaller, Jo Anne Simon, Ken Diamondstone, Bob Zuckerman, and Rock Hackshaw. I also know Tish James and have gotten to know John Liu since endorsing him. I also know Bill de Blasio and David Yassky but have generally been on opposing sides from them over the years.

Polls and Predictions: I have only seen a handful of polls. They all seem to agree Mark Green is solidly ahead in the Public Advocate's race, but that either Bill de Blasio or Norman Siegel could force a runoff. The Comptroller's race has John Liu consistently ahead, but only barely and it is very likely there will be a runoff between him and Melinda Katz. Yassky is a distant third, a worse performance even than his 2006 Congressional run. City Council races are harder to tell what's up other than assuming most incumbents will win, which means many of these endorsed candidates have no real shot. In the 39th Josh Skaller and Brad Lander are probably in a dead heat, but Lander is losing support fast due to some scandals, not all of them his fault. In the 33rd Steve Levin and Jo Anne Simon are in a dead heat, but I think Jo Anne Simon will win. In the 25th Daniel Dromm has a good shot at winning if the WFP scandal doesn't drag him down. In the 35th Tish James should win easily. Some surprises might come from Rock Hackshaw, Yetta Kurland and Marquez Claxton, though I really don't have any clear sense of those races, merely seeing where some momentum might bring about a surprise.
