There are many things that people just don't know about McCain.  This Diary addresses several.  But BSG fans have an inside track on McCain, but many of them don't know it (yet).

Yes, we are going to win this one.  Although early polls are, well, early polls, they still give us cause for optimism in that Obama is picking up steam.  Now wait until Americans learn more about the real John McCain.

I am not worried about how this will turn out ever since I learned that Obama has resources that few have dreamed about.

And while we are at, there is very good reason to be suspicious of McCain, which BSG fans will appreciate.

  • Of course sexism is a serious issue.  That said, I think it important to note that Clinton wasn't all that concerned about feminism in the primary.  Why do I say this?  Because I believe that part of her strategy was to make feminists feel that if they didn't back her, they were being untrue to the cause.  This did a tremendous disservice to feminism.  It also set at odds two great allies, the anti-racist and anti-sexist forces.

Often one's name is enough to be seen as different.  Obama's name will prove to be of assistance in making American's less parochial about what it means to be an American.

  • Speaking of fear...the Republicans have used the fear of the "foreigner" to their advantage.  But here Obama has something of a secret weapon.  It may pull in votes from unexpected places.

    From MLK'S Last speech:

"Now, what does all of this mean in this great period of history? It means that we've got to stay together. We've got to stay together and maintain unity. You know, whenever Pharaoh wanted to prolong the period of slavery in Egypt, he had a favorite, favorite formula for doing it. What was that? He kept the slaves fighting among themselves. But whenever the slaves get together, something happens in Pharaoh's court, and he cannot hold the slaves in slavery. When the slaves get together, that's the beginning of getting out of slavery. Now let us maintain unity." Martin Luther King, "I've Been to the Mountaintop," April 3rd, 1968.

P.S.  Having been thru 1968, I suggest that we be very careful about what is in store for us if the Democratic Party divides.

Well, it could go either way depending on how Hillary and Bill handle it, and how much room the media provides.

But I am not sure how necessary it is, now that I have learned that that Federation appears to be behind Obama.

  • Yes, indeed.

On a list of a (baker's dozen) reasons why McCain won't win, I have as #7

    7. The Not So Straight-talk Factor: McCain has built his reputation on being a man of principle. This has two features: he believes in something and he sticks with what he believes in. McCain has recently begun to backpedal on principles and commitments. He is vulnerable to being viewed as a flip-flopper, if not dishonest, which will undermine his hitherto greatest strength.

  • Unity is a key here.  This is from King's last speech.
