Clinton Must Disavow "Jamaica Jerk-Off"

Because Elton John is well known for songs that denigrate Black people based on their skin-color, I call upon Hillary Clinton to apologize for inviting him to sing at a concert for her and to disavow and disassociate herself from Elton John and his color aroused antagonistic and filthy lyrics.  Although there has been some debate over whether Clinton violated election laws by having Elton John, a foreigner, host a concert for her to raise funds for her nomination campaign, no one has addressed the fact that Elton John lyrics have been antagonistically color-aroused, misogynistic, base and vulgar.

Elton John's song entitled "Jamaica Jerk-Off" asserts that the only thing Jamaicans (like Colin Powell, Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff) do is sit around and "jerk-off" all day.  Here are the lyrics:

When she gets up in the morning
It's enough to wake the dead
Oh she turning on the radio
And dancing on my head

It's no good living in the sun
Playing guitar all day
Boogalooing with my friends
In that erotic way

Come on Jamaica
In Jamaica all day
Dancing with your darling
Do Jamaica jerk-off that way

Come on Jamaica
Everybody say
We're all happy in Jamaica
Do Jamaica Jerk-off that way

Let the ladies and the gentlemen
Be as rude as they like
On the beaches, oh in the jungle
Where the people feel alright

So do it Jamaica
Got plenty for you and me
Honky tonking with my baby
In that deep blue sea

And then consider the lyrics to the song, "Island Girl".  Not only does Elton John characterize Jamaicans as all perpetual "jerk-offs", but his other stigmatizing song about Jamaicans, "Island Girl", stereotypes Black Jamaican island women as prostitutes.  Rolling Stone says, "And whoever bothers to listen to the lyrics of "Island Girl" might well find them racist   and sexist  . . ." Here are the lyrics to "Island Girl":

I see your teeth flash, Jamaican honey so sweet
Down where Lexington cross 47th Street
She's a big girl, she's standing six foot three
Turning tricks for the dudes in the big city

Island girl
What you wanting with the white man's world
Island girl
Black boy want you in his island world
He want to take you from the racket boss
He want to save you but the cause is lost
Island girl, island girl, island girl
Tell me what you wanting with the white man's world

She's black as coal but she burn like a fire
And she wrap herself around you like a well worn tire
You feel her nail scratch your back just like a rake
He one more gone, he one more John who make the mistake

Never were there two clearer examples of lyrics that intentionally subject Blacks to ridicule based on skin-color.   One music aficionado says, "Island Girl's reasonable melody is ruined by racist lyrics."

Although Elton John has alleged that Americans lack of support for Hillary Clinton may involve misogyny (and he may be right to some degree), yet Elton's John's own lyrics are both antagonistically color-aroused and misogynistic in these songs about and island where he says "all" Blacks are "happy" jerk-offs.

Before these songs were recorded, sung, popularized and merchandized  by Elton John, they were authored for him by his lyricist, Bernie Taupin.

Elton John may not understand that in the "white man's world" to which he refers in his song, Blacks are often compelled by financial circumstances and by the power of "white man's" imperialism to be the subjects of white male sex fantasies and sex acts, rather than doing so and being "happy" about it.

(Notice that I have NOT asserted that Elton John is a "racist" or that his lyrics are "racist".    I am not concerned with what he is, but rather with what he has done by publishing and singing these songs.  In these two cases, Elton John's lyrics bespeak antagonism and contempt for the Black people of Jamaica and for Black  people in general.  He appears focuses on Blacks only as sex objects, whose skin-color apparently arouses Elton John's sexual interest, or so he says in his songs.  These songs portray an entire nation of Blacks as mere objects of his sexual fantasies, rather than human beings deserving of respect.)

Therefore, I call on Hillary Clinton to apologize for inviting Elton John to sing for her and to disavow this man and this music.

Clinton Must Disavow "Jamaica Jerk-Off"

next week: hillary must disclose who her favorite beatle was, and why whomever she names is a bad choice and what serious character flaws this reveals in her.

Re: Clinton Must Disavow

Do people wake up in the morning and ask themselves, "how can I be even more stupid today than I was yesterday?", or are we just incredibly lucky?

Re: Clinton Must Disavow

I really, REALLY hope we're incredibly lucky! :D

Re: Clinton Must Disavow

Well, you may want to just brush this off as silliness, but I think Hillary Clinton has a very real Elton John Problem. I can just imagine 527s running non-stop loops of Elton John singing Island Girl, or talking about how he would "ban religion completely" because it "turns people into really hateful lemmings." These are shameful, inappropriate things to say, and no Democrat should EVER associate herself with him!

Remember, we can choose our entertainers, and by not walking out of his performance the other night, she obviously endorses everything Elton John has ever said or done. It is clear that we will lose the election if Clinton is the nominee because of Elton John. We shouldn't even try in November. It's over! We will lose! We are dooooomed!!!

SNARK

Calm down folks...it's a snark

by hootie4170 2008-04-11 04:08AM | 0 recs
What?

Although there has been some debate over whether Clinton violated election laws by having Elton John, a foreigner, host a concert for her to raise funds for her nomination campaign

Which law exactly is alleged to have been broken? Foreigners are barred from contributing, but is there a provision that states they may not assist in fundraising?

I'd be very surprised to hear that.

Re: What?

I don't know, but Elton also did a benefit for Al Gore in 2000, and there was no controversy then.

Re: What?

Well, the law has changed since the 2000 cycle - McCain-Feingold became law in 2002 - but I'm more concretely wondering what the parameters would be. Say you can't have, by statute, a foreigner hosting an event for you. Where do you draw the line? Do all of the waiters and ushers at your event need to be citizens as well? How about the external vendor support staff? I don't know, in practical terms, that you could codify that in law or have meaningful compliance.

My guess would be, contrary to the assertion of the diarist, that there is no controversy here. And I'm by no means a Clinton supporter.

Re: What?

There's definitely a controversy! It shows how Clinton is obviously peddling influence to foreign governments. What corrupt bargain has she reached with the agents of England, France, Portugal or Spain? Hillary Clinton definitely has a foreign government problem, and I can just imagine the 527s running non-stop loops of shadowy dukes, barons and lords all hoping for a piece of America should she win.

This is Very Serious! If she wins the nomination, McCain will probably win all but 1 electoral vote. We are dooooomed!

aah it's that time again

it's near PA primary. Obama is losing so time for some faux-controversy and good old fashioned race-baiting.

Re: aah it's that time again

This diary, if it's not a parody, is certainly not the product of the Obama campaign.

by Mostly 2008-04-11 05:14AM | 0 recs
his race baiting will not help in PA

I think he should lay down that race card as often as possible in the next two weeks.

I must disavow this diary.

This is ridiculous, I am an Obama supporter, but this is the stupid crap that is a total distraction.

This is a campaign for the presidency, should we check the candidates CD collections now?

99% of the stuff that gets so passionately argued about is not relevant to anything at all.

Re: I must disavow this diary.

Okay, fooled me with the snark, but that is the crazy thing, the joke issues and the ones people really get bent out shape over are virtually the same.

I am just waiting for a onion article to unleash a firestorm.

Re: Clinton Must Disavow "Jamaica J

actually, didn't Bernie Taupin write that song?

Re: Clinton Must Disavow Jamaica Jerk-Off

You can't be one of those highly educated Obama supporters. Otherwise you would know that Bernie Taupin is the lyricist for Elton John.

by Hunky 2008-04-11 05:59AM | 0 recs
Re: Clinton Must Disavow "

yes, I know that BT was the lyricist for EJ back then.  The point was that EJ didn't write the song.  BT did.

so BT must be racist.

by colebiancardi 2008-04-11 06:17AM | 0 recs
Oh my god, are you serious?

Elton didn't even write his own lyrics. Bernie Taupin did. Also, it was 30 years ago. Also, Hillary was in Elton's presence for an evening -- this is not a friend of hers. She is not required to disavow everything unpleasant he's ever said, sung, or done.

Normally, I would assume this diary was snark, but you have a history of calling the Clintons and everyone who associates with them racists, race-baiters, or otherwise insensitive. Therefore, I'll assume you're serious.

There's an excellent chance Hillary doesn't even remember or know those songs. You know, there are a lot of Obama supporters I can disagree with, yet still respect, but you're not one of them. You have absolutely no credibility -- you cry wolf at every opportunity. I wouldn't be surprised if you thought Hillary's wardrobe was somehow racist. Your ignorance is rather stunning.

Let me reiterate: this is the most ridiculous demand I've ever heard. No joke, I've never seen an Obama supporter come up with a sillier bit of garbage. Like so many of your other assertions, this is disgraceful. Of all the Obama supporters on MyDD who have ever unfairly attacked Hillary, you should be most ashamed. You have persisently accused people of racism/and race-baiting when it wasn't there. You do it so often, no one can take you seriously.

By the way, I heard Hillary's gynecologist once accidentally sneezed while in the same room with an African American. O noes, he's clearly racist, teh h0rrorz!! OMG, plz go diary it, Hillary MUST denounce and reject!!1!11!!!!!!1

Re: Oh my god, are you serious?

Okay, nevermind. I just read your tags, and it's snark. But you should really think about the fact that several people thought you were serious -- there's a good reason. You have a history of making unfounded allegations. You see what I mean about crying wolf? You are so determined to paint the Clintons as racists/race-baiters that no one would have been terribly surprised if this diary had been serious.

by sricki 2008-04-11 06:37AM | 0 recs
Ah ha!

Bernie Taupin! Another foreigner! Why is there a conspiracy of foreigners involved in the Clinton campaign?! What are they hiding?!

by Obama Independent 2008-04-11 07:01AM | 0 recs
Re: Ah ha!

Heh. The fact that Hillary's so close to these foreigners proves she's unpatriotic! Shouldn't we be concerned?!?

Come on, get real

This diary is as dumb as the whole, Barack must "disavow his pastor" meme.  Oh wait....

Exactly!

You beat me to it. I'm amazed at how many people aren't recognizing the satire here.

READ THE TAGs

And friggin relax, people. Damn.

by Newcomer 2008-04-11 07:43AM | 0 recs
Re: READ THE TAGs

Actually, that tag was added later, whether the diarist did it (which I doubt, considering his past diaries) or someone else trying to avoid another candidate fight, I don't know.
