They Shoot Children Don’t They?

Israeli troops accused of shooting children in Gaza

    • Victims were scavenging for rubble, say rights groups

    • Attacks allegedly took place outside 300-metre buffer zone

At least 10 Palestinian children have been shot and wounded by Israeli troops in the past three months while collecting rubble in or near the “buffer zone” created by Israel along the Gaza border, in a low-intensity offensive on the fringes of the blockaded Palestinian territory.

Israeli soldiers are routinely shooting at Gazans well beyond the unmarked boundary of the official 300 metre-wide no-go area, rights groups say.

According to Bassam Masri, head of orthopaedics at the Kamal Odwan hospital in Beit Lahiya in the north of Gaza, about 50 people have been treated for gunshot wounds suffered in or near the buffer zone while collecting rubble in the past three months; about five have been killed.

He estimates that 30% of the injured are boys under 18.

They shoot horses don't they?
An apt metaphor for the plight of the stateless Palestinians.

Land of Paralysed Butterflies – A Poem

crimson stains their mangled wings
drenched before reaching a spring
untarnished with rippling veins

it’s my fingers and other paper hands
that erase and replace letters on the map

as butterflies writhe in parched mouths on dying faces
a pair of scissors stabs our hands to brand us
traitors of diplomacy

we soothe our lacerations with glue

the empty squares parade before us
perverted precision brandishing tiny pencils
dangling on strings launching the limited dictionary
entitled responsibility

in the land of paralysed butterflies
some devote themselves to primary colours
and others to extracting their hues

when we turned the pages we beheld
a paralysed land smothered in red and grey
unravelling threads punctuated by missiles
dazzling spectators with hideous light
sanctioned by the throng lauding their right
to emblazon numbers in the squares.

Let's change the rules here at MyDD

so that losers like Main Street quit posting inane comments to their own diaries. I mean, it's like this poor fool is talking to himself.

Obviously, it means a lot to him to get his diary over to "Most Popular".....so immediately after his little article goes up, he posts four comments to it. I'll go out on a limb and predict that you'll see several more comments as the struggles to keep this brilliant commentary before the eyes of MyDD readers.

If it was a worthwhile diary maybe it wouldn't be so annoying.....but unfortunately, it's just the same tired garbage he's been posting for months. Frankly, I'd rather see one of the ads for "replica watches" on the most popular list than this junk from Main Street.

RE: Let's change the rules here at MyDD

Well, thanks for the compliments, Fighter. Are you here responding for, what's his name or Strummerson? It has been so long.

If you believe that a diary about child deaths occurring anywhere garbage, then I suggest that you post your own diaries defending it.

My apology to those here at MyDD interested in human rights.

But BFFighter has been a long time adversary of posts that defend human rights and this is not the first time that he has lambasted my messages about democratic values. We are the people who have defended civil and human rights since the 60s and we continue to do so.

Don't ask me what he or his colleagues are all about on this site.
