Live in a Safe Democratic District? Adopt-a-Candidate today!

Do you live in a safe Democratic Congressional district? If so, please join me and "Adopt-A-Candidate" for the final two week stretch of campaign season.

How do you "adopt-a-candidate"? It's easy.

* Find a worthy Democratic congressional candidate in your state, or in a region you care about, who has potential to beat their opponent.

* Contribute to the candidate's campaign, as though they were representing you.

* Promote your adopted candidate to anyone you know in that district, and write diaries and posts about them on blogs encouraging others to contribute to the candidate too.

What are the benefits of adopting a candidate?

* You'll help get another Democrat elected to Congress, which will provide your own congressmember with an ally in Washington, and make it easier to get important legislation passed in the Obama administration.

* You'll learn about the demographics and voting habits of another Congressional District. (And knowing the demographics makes watching election returns so much more exciting!)

* You'll feel like you made a difference. (Even if your adoptee doesn't win, you'll have raised their public profile  so they'll have an easier time raising funds and getting support next time they run for office.)

* When your adopted candidate wins, you'll feel like you have two members of Congress representing you.

I adopted Debbie Cook in CA-46 through the encouragement of some fine folks here at MyDD, and she's been the best candidate I could ever ask for. I encourage any of you living in safe districts to go out there and "Adopt-a-Candidate" now!!! It's only a 2-week commitment, but the benefits may last a lifetime.

ADOPT GARY PRITCHARD :)

Re: ADOPT GARY PRITCHARD :)

I wish I could adopt Gary. But my State Senatorial candidate is in a heated race too.

This is one of those unfortunate results of term limits. Just when a legislator establishes themselves and a base of support, they have to go and find another job.

Re: Live in a Safe Democratic District?

I'm going to have to beg off the Adopt-A-Candidate, as the 3rd looks like it's going to be a REAL tough race, and I'm going to have to focus my energies on ousting the rethuglican incumbent in my home district

Durston08!

Re: Live in a Safe Democratic District?

Absolutely. "Adopt-a-Candidate" is best suited for people living in VERY safe districts. But you can try to find people in safe districts who want to adopt Durston.

C'mon San Francisco people. Nancy has enough money and is very safe. Your money could go to much better use elsewhere!

You're fine, Dizzy...

You just need to convince your friends in Mike Thompson's district (CA-01) and Doris Matsui's district (CA-05) and tell them to take the time they're using now to call Ohio and instead come to CA-03 and get Durston elected. ;-)

Re: Dina Titus

Congratulations on your adoption! Dina is an excellent candidate who is very worthy of your devotion. The demographics in Nevada are perfect for that state and district to turn blue.

Adopt Jeff Merkley!!!

Oregon Senate candidate Jeff Merkley is running neck and neck against Republican Gordon Smith. Merkley is a strong progressive with an amazing record of accomplishments in the Oregon House. He led the greenest, most labor friendly, most productive and progressive session we've seen in decades. In a nutshell, the guy is a very skilled progressive legislator. JeffMerkley.com

Re: Adopt Jeff Merkley!!!

Yes. Jeff Merkley is very adoptable. We have no Senatorial race in California this year, so there are plenty of people here in the Golden State who should consider adopting him. Perhaps it would make us a little less sad about our own Senator Feinstein representing us so poorly. Actually, Feinstein has been very generous to her fellow Dems. Maybe we need to convince Feinstein to adopt Merkley?

Re: Adopt Jeff Merkley!!!

Having Jeff Merkley in the Senate would certainly please California progressives! Plus, Merkley is in favor of high speed rail along the entire west coast!

We make it super easy to adopt one or more fine Democratic candidates! If I can do it, you can do it too! ;-)

AZ-05 needs help.

Harry Mitchell is running against David Schweikert who was the least wingnutty of the choices.  This has one Democratic portion (ASU and thereabouts) and the rest is Republican.

Mitchell is getting hit hard on the bailout and pro-Democratic votes in a place where it would get traction.  Also he is in his 1st reelection bid.

He was very good on telecom immunity (I got a letter after a call to his office).

I'm not good with the intertubes but here is the link.  If I linked wrong or in an inefficient way, I apologize.

Re: AZ-05 needs help.

That is a tough district indeed. Is there any polling in that race?

Re: WV-02: Anne Barth dynamic challenger v. Capito

Yes, Anne Barth is another exciting Democratic challenger who could really use some help. She's got Hillary Clinton campaigning for her, but she could use some money. The September 30 numbers from opensecrets.org:

Shelley Moore Capito (R) *
Raised:  $1,904,235
Spent:  $1,023,705
Cash on Hand:  $1,054,113

Anne Barth (D)
Raised:  $976,407
Spent:  $731,687
Cash on Hand:  $244,721

Re: Live in a Safe Democratic District? Adopt-a-Ca

That is a very exciting race in a district that has not voted for a Democrat in eons. There must be some safe Democratic districts in MI where people can afford to adopt Gary Peters.

Frank Kratovil in MD - 01

I guess I adopted him a while back.  I contributed to him during the primary, I have contributed twice since then and this weekend will mark the second time I have gone canvassing for him.  I spend most of my time working for Obama in VA, but have done this for my adopted (actually the one where I was born and lived for many years)district.

Those in safe states should do something for Obama in another state that needs the help

Re: Frank Kratovil in MD - 01

Lots of Democrats in California have been traveling to Nevada to campaign for Obama. I sure hope people in Illinois are traveling to neighboring states.
