Has the world changed?

After 12 years of nearly complete control of Florida politics, Republicans lost the state to Obama.

But, although Obama won Florida, the Democrats didn't. While Obama was carrying Florida by over 3%, Democrats were picking up only one seat in both houses of the Legislature, which remain overwhelmingly Republican.

Now, Florida Republicans complain that their party retreated from core principles and mismanaged funds. The Florida Republican party is debating whether to move to the middle or more to the right in anticipation of 2010, when they will have to defend the governorship, a senate seat and all three state Cabinet posts.

On the other hand, the Democratic party now has a 657,000 voter registration advantage over the Republicans. But, there were minimal down ballot coat tails. No one knows if "new voters" will turn out when Obama's not on the ballot.

Re: Has the world changed?

You're concerned about Florida in 2010? No wonder your blog doesn't get any traffic.

Re: Has the world changed?

I think we got about as far as we could down ballot. The mere fact that we came close to getting 60 is crazy and way, way beyond what we hoped we'd be able to do. I'm not sure if you were following Democratic sites this year, but getting 56-57 seats was the hope. We thought our chances looked pretty good, but it was a big uphill climb. It was the "Road to 60" that was set up as a goal, not the "Road to 62".

As for the country's political center being within the Republican platform for this year or being even further to the right, that's just stupid. Why do you insist on pushing shit like this?

Every Silver Cloud ...

... has a dark lining, if you look hard enough.

Re: Every Silver Cloud ...

Which in itself is a silver lining, if you look at it cockeyed long enough.

Using Florida or any single state to make your point is equivalent to saying there is a trend based on a single data point. Your argument
while it may well be true fails because you didn't do the work to substantiate it. Grade D-

He also posts his diaries

at Redstate.

It's a pretty moronic post, and largely devoid of any understanding of Florida Politics.

Amusing

Considering the ballot initiatives set up, I was surprised that even Obama won the state at all.

The Democrats of Florida are largely a curiosity, like an exotic pet kept by Republicans to intrigue visitors.

Your blog is "far right democrat"?!?

What on Earth is a "far right democrat"? Isn't that a Republican?

Are you sure you're not a Republican?

I can understand the despair that must come from realizing one may be Republican in this day and age.

And what is your dispute with Markos? Can anyone be taken seriously whose name is "kos no more"? Markos proved to not only be correct at every turn in this race, but the voice for a major portion of the movement.

For a more thoughtful analysis on the fall of the GOP, consider this article from Thomas B. Edsall

Easy

A "Far right Democrat" is a Republican that doesn't want to lose anymore.

Re: Your blog is "far right democrat"?!?

It's a weird mindset.

There used to be a user on here with the name "Nobama" and you had to wonder what their sense of themselves in the world was.

Then again...

...puma bloggers still manage to entertain a passionate (if not small and increasingly calcified) audience to this day.

Heh.

Just take a stroll ( hazard suit on please) through NoKKKwarter and check out the user names.

Sad thing is they don't know they are projecting their pathetic existence for all to see.

I've been to the Asylum and the Effluent

I guess I'll have to try NoKKKwarter.

You have to ask what's wrong with people to be so unhappy over achieving the victory they aimed for the past 8 years.

I wonder if some people simply can't handle winning?
