Hillary Clinton - Now Over 6 million in 1 Day - UPDATED!

UPDATE: This from the NY Times: http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/02/07/clinton-campaign-aides-will-be-paid/
Terry McAuliffe, the national chairman for the Clinton campaign, is reporting right now on a conference call with the campaign’s finance committee that the campaign has raised $7.5 million online in the first week February, with about $6.4 million of that in the last 24 or 30 hours.

I just saw this at Time.com

After Black Wednesday, Clinton raises more than $6 million on the web in 24 hours -- campaign manager Solis Doyle and all staff being paid again.

Campaign chair Terry McAuliffe plans 4pm ET conference call to tout the turnaround.

Stolen from my diary at DailyKos

Yesterday was a great day for fund raising for both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. This is a good sign for the Democratic party.

What I have been noticing from supporters of Hillary Clinton is that they thought she was OK with money. Why they thought this, I just don't know. Maybe because of the early media hype about her early fundraising numbers?

This is something that must be maintained, that is why many of the campaigns have a check box when donating that automatically lets you donate every month. You can still give more but that piece would be automatic.

Many of the Hillary Clinton supporters have started to donate again and many others are donating for the first time. Anyone that thinks Hillary Clinton is not going to have enough money is just being silly.

I do wish the Hillary Clinton website would give a running tally, because it helps to push more donations. It becomes a competitive game.

Do you want to donate again or for the first time? Then go HERE:

Hillary Clinton supporters also need to be better about using the blogs, etc. Don't let the pissing matches scare you off. Recommend the diaries YOU like and comment in them. Push your point of view but don't be rude.

Make this another Big Fundraising Day for Hillary Clinton. Don't sit and wait again, be proactive!

> One last thing, could all of the Obama supporters please keep your little hit comments to a minimum or not at all?

Thank you.

Let me ask you this

How does a graphic on a website really let you know what is going on? Even if the numbers are correct in the graphic, how do you really know when and where that money came from?

I vote NO for Money Tally

I think it's better this way.  Don't let your opponent knows your ammunition.

See

what can be done by getting out to the netroots?

I did what I did and I am only a leaner not a hardcore supporter.

I just did not like the nasty turn that was going on both here and at Dkos.

I also did not like that MoveOn chose (with a vote) to side with a candidate in the primary. I think that was STUPID. I dropped my membership with MoveOn simply because they did that.

Re: See
I liked your point about the netroots and not getting scared off. I have been totally scared off over at the big orange, the unrational hatred toward Hillary and her supporters is frightening.
This site is a good refuge because more Hillary supporters are coming here, but in the last few days I have noticed so are more haters.
The whole thing is just too stinking bad, but at least I found this site.
Thanks for the money update. It was quite fun to add to the total, have my husband do so, and everyone I know in Arizona got an email from me with the link.

Re: Hillary Clinton - Now Over 6 million in 1 Day

Well Obama has to spend three dollars for Hillary's every one just to come close to breaking even.  So let's just think of Hillary's six million dollars as eighteen million Obama dollars.  Your guy is falling way short.

by Beltway Dem 2008-02-07 11:31AM | 0 recs
Re: Hillary Clinton - Now Over 6 million in 1 Day

So Obama has to spend 3x to compete because you say so?  He hasn't been spending 3x so far, so you might need to rethink your logic

by A from Phoenix 2008-02-07 12:55PM | 0 recs
Re: Hillary Clinton - Now Over 6 million in 1 Day

Hmmm.  Let's see.  Hillary Clinton spent something like $110-120 million to get to Super Tuesday.

Obama probably spent a bit more, due to his January fundraising advantage.  (Through 2007, they raised roughly equal amounts -- about $100 million each, in primary $ that can actually be spent on this campaign.)

And with that, he's won (a) more delegates than she has, and (b) more states than she has.

How is this spending "three dollars to Hillary's every one just to come close to breaking even"?

Re: Hillary Clinton - Now Over 6 million in 1 Day

Do we just make up numbers now?

$6.5 MILLION??!!

OMG, this is becoming HUGE! Can anyone say "Comeback Kid" again? Yesterday, the corporate media was ready to dance on her grave yet again... Just as they were ready to just after Iowa. But yet again, our Hill proved them WRONG! She's raising money FROM THE GRASSROOTS like there's no tomorrow, and we look to be in STRONG shape to stay competitive in the upcoming contests. Hillary's got a life, and it's far from over! :-)

Yes, it's sad...

That BIG MEDIA was trying to push that meme all day yesterday and again this morning. From what I recall, I don't remember the campaign actually confirming that rumor reported by Halperin. So after all you Obama folks were gloating about this "staffers going without pay" rumor, don't then try to blame Hill's campaign for it when it's proven to be false.

by atdleft 2008-02-07 11:39AM | 0 recs
Re: Hillary Clinton - Now Over 6 million in 1 Day

That article clearly says that it is the money they have raised in the last 24 hours that is preventing staffers from going without pay. The staffers offered but indeed they won't have to.

So exactly what is your point?!?!?

by americanincanada 2008-02-07 11:43AM | 0 recs

MoveOn and Obama

The Clinton campaign is in an arms race for money with Senator Barack Obama, who raised $7.9 million since Tuesday, with about $320,000 of that coming from MoveOn.org.

Re: Hillary Clinton - Now Over 6 million in 1 Day

Some (only a few) Clinton supporters may have been rude....

but the vulgarity and vituperativeness of many (not all) Obama supporters has been objected to even amongst the Edwards supporters, who wrote about this issue on dailykos.

Face it, a lot of immature people are more likely to be trash-talkers and potty-mouths than the middle aged women who comprise the bulk of the core Clinton support.

And the trash-talking gangsta rap mentality really does put off a lot of people.  I would hope the Obama camp would warn its supporters not to play into that kind of a stereotype.

And, as a Clinton supporter, I would urge my fellow Hillary backers to stay cool and calm and not fall into the gutter blog-tactics that have been so abundant in recent weeks.

So you Clinton people dont find it all sad that  Bill Clinton + Terry McCullough struggle (and often fail) to keep pace with a guy that almost no one had heard of just a few years ago?  Also, at this point to suggest that Bill & Hillary Clinton have "come back"  to win anything to do with Democratic party politics is laughable on its face.  This race was theres to loose and if they do (the fact they've come this close already should prompt some real soul searching if you ask me)your going to blame a jr. senator in his first term for defeating the former first lady?

Richardson's money man on board

From Marc Ambinder:

"New York biggie Alan Patricoff said that Clinton's self-contribution "really showed people that she was prepared to go to the line," and that he'd had several donors call him and mention the same thing.

Former Amb. Ed Romero, who until a few weeks ago was finance chair for Gov. Bill Richardson's campaign, said, that he, too, "had a call from one of my guys who said, "if she's in, I'm in."

Another donor asked for more events with Chelsea, which prompted Penn to note that Clinton won the votes of the youngest demographic -- 18 to 29 year olds -- in California and Massachusetts.

Dallas's Debbie Branson, a former president of the state trial bar, implored the campaign to send Clinton down to Texas pronto. "Y'all need to get to Texas... Texans are not afraid of a strong, independent woman... we need you to get here."

I read also a week or so ago that Clinton picked up a couple of Biden bundlers.

So she may have some new inroads to fresh cash.

Re: Hillary Clinton - Now Over 6 million in 1 Day

Picked up two checks yesterday (I'm essentially self employed, income wildly variable) and made an on-line donation today, my third of the primary cycle.   I've crossed the boundary into a mid-level contributor.

More will come if need be.  I was asking my superior half about how much to give, e.g., a prudent amount, given our finances, or a larger amount.  She told me to consult my conscience and act accordingly.  Therefore I went with the larger amount.  For me, this is a "give until it hurts" situation.
