Obama Senate Questions

While it seemed very cordial, Obama was able to hit Petraeus and Crocker very hard. Obama took them down a path. First, on Al Qaeda on Iraq. He got Petraeus to agree with him that the total elimination of Al Qaeda is an impossible standard for withdrawal. Next he goes after Crocker's points about Iranian influence, pointing out that both Iran and Al Qaeda  are in Iraq because we invaded and that we can not expect to eliminate Iranian involvement.

Then came the hammer. Obama pointed out that if the definition of success is put so high - no Al Qaeda, no Iranian influence, a prosperous diverse democracy we will be there forever. He then points out that we still, after 8 hours of testimony, have no definition of success.

Crocker's weak response its "hard and complicated."

And he points out, something that we have been saying all day, they have no definition of success.

He said:

"The problem I have is that if the definition of success is so high, no traces of Al Qaeda and no possibility of reconstitution, a highly effective Iraqi government, a democratic multi ethnic, multi sectarian functioning democracy, no Iranian influence, at least not the kind that we like, then that portends the possibility of us staying for 20 or 30 years."

Verdict? Impressive! As I listened to him, I could almost feel Gen. Petraus and Amb. Crocker acknowledge that this guy asking the questions might be their next commander in chief. You could see the respect, the deference in their tone and answers. You could almost imagine them standing up and saluting. As for the substance, it was like Obama was sincerely trying to find out a solution to the Iraq mess.

The man is intelligent, very very intelligent. Everybody was waiting for this, even the Senators.

Rasmussen: Obama Achieves Biggest Lead Ever

Obama is pulling away.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows Barack Obama with his largest lead ever in the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. Obama now attracts 51% of the vote while Clinton earns 40% (see recent daily results). Obama leads 61% to 30% among Men including a thirteen-point advantage among White Men. Obama leads 84% to 12% among African-American voters while Clinton holds a seven-point edge among White voters. Among Democrats, Obama leads by four. He holds a much healthier lead among unaffiliated voters likely to vote in a Democratic Primary.

Caution should always be used before reading too much into a single day's results(see video commentary on long-term trends). However, this is only the second time that Obama has ever reached the 50% level of support and just the second time since the March 4 Primaries that his support has moved more than three percentage points in either direction from the 45% level.

As for Clinton, this is the lowest level of support she has earned since the contest for the nomination became a two-person race. It will take several more days to determine whether this signals a shift in the race or is merely statistical noise. Daily tracking results are updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time.

New polling released today shows that Obama has opened a twenty-three percentage point lead in North Carolina. In Pennsylvania, Clinton has the lead but Obama is gaining ground. Rasmussen Markets data now give Obama a 85.3 % chance to win the Democratic nomination.

The World is Watching

www.baidu.com

The entire world is watching and waiting the outcome of President-elect B. Obama's political victory in the USA--i.e. reflecting the "consciousness of America cutuzens."

Why? Obama's "inclusiveness" approach to "all inclusive problems/public concerns" of the American people with consideration for those in other countries who are directly impacted by the "situational problems" takes into account-solution impacts on other countries--and those countries have both an active role and active-self interest concern-in the solutions and the implementation thereof. After all, what America does for America has direct impact on its neighbors--who, under the Bush-ism GOP political goals of "Selfish Feed and Greed-damn all others," give no consideration. Why would Irag agree to the demand of Bush's Feed and Greed demand that the USA be given an exclusive-right to all its oil output for the next 50 years? Who, even not in their right mind would agree to theft--under guise of "negotiations." (with a gun at one's head).

Be not deceived- whatsoever a man sowe-'THAT' shall he reap-

Bush & and by extension McCain must go!! Hillary and Billary (the self-proclaimed "Black Man's past impeached president"- discovered the error of his way-by the voters response-choosing Obama over Bill's ole lady (who refused to kneel) to 5-1 vote margin.

Regarding the "female right" [assumed she has the implied right to be the 1st female president of the USA].

That tact does not brew well in more than 90% of other countries--[their histories and cultural standards have 1,000 or more years of "women staying in their place in the family and by exension- in public/political matters.].

Ignoring traditions of others does not attest to one's leadership experiences gained during one's 'time in the white House."

Is it not strange-that "sex" (or the lack thereof between lawfully married husband & wife) is the one item that resulted in the Impeachment of Bill Clinton?

While the entire world watched-and covered their mouths to hide the laughter at such non-issues of importance--by any president-resulting in impeachment--and Hillary was (is?) at fault--

And yes, America is ready for a president who have "inclusive developed resoultions to inclusive problems of the citizenery of this great country" [jobs, climate change, health care, education (not just one test-trickery]

Yes, America is ready for a presidnet who will do what is collective and inclusive of all peoples impacted thereby- in the USA and abroad. Yes, the world is watching America-awaiting its response to "ability-intelligence-honesty and morality" found in Obama (absent in Hillary).

And yes, with Obama as its president- America will again ascend to the position of "world leadership by inclusion of other nations/countries in world problems and concerns." The only candidate who fully understand that any Presidental policy implemented in the USA has direct impact on other countries.

And, YES America is ready for "common decency" in its President and its policies.

Clintons Pardon List; cocaine dealers, thieves, fraudsters etc

Clinton issued 140 pardons as well as several commutations on his last day of office (January 20, 2001).[13] When a sentence is commuted, the conviction remains intact, but the sentence can be altered in a number of ways. Some controversial actions include the following:

What favours did these people give to get these pardons. Well in the case of Marc Rich we know his wife donated to the 'Foundation'. If so, what did these 'respectable' criminals do to get theirs?

The whole tale with the Clintons is sordid and dirty and the transperancy murky.

I therefore demand that the Cintons release the full list of their Library donors, as soon as possible. Democracy and open government society demands it. Not a moment to soon.

One thing is clear. The Clintons do sure protect their own.

''My fellow Clintonites, it's time for Obama''

A excellent piece by the respected Tripp Jones is cofounder of MassINC.

FOR SUPPORTERS of Senator Hillary Clinton, like me, it's time to get behind her rival, Senator Barack Obama.

The exposure of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.'s outrageous and divisive remarks has injected the raw emotions associated with race relations into the presidential campaign. This new dynamic raises the stakes in an already high-stakes race. Our responsibility as progressive-minded voters is to show Americans a positive alternative to the toxic politics of race. Rallying around Obama now increases our chances of doing just that. Obama has run a positive and inspiring campaign, and has attracted a majority of pledged delegates. It is hard to envision a scenario in which Democratic superdelegates override the will of millions of primary voters and caucus participants. Obama will be the nominee.

Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Wright presents Republicans with a polarizing wedge issue to exploit with general election voters. This approach not only risks an Obama loss in November - denying us a fresh, capable leader - but it would set the country back in its racial reconciliation process. Americain 2008 should be better than that.

As we have done at many key junctures in our nation's history, Democrats and other progressive-minded voters must lead the way. The current firestorm is an opportunity to move beyond the anger and resentment that have characterized our nation's dialogue on race. By throwing our enthusiastic support behind Obama now, voters of all political stripes can echo the candidate's refrain, "Not this time."

There have been many moments in our history when we failed to heed that call. Twenty years ago, as a staffer of Governor Michael Dukakis's presidential campaign, I observed the use of the now-famous "Willie Horton" ad to undermine a good man's character, fan the flames of racial division and distract voters from the most important issues of the time.

Not this time. We have an opportunity to show that we have learned from our mistakes. The first step, which Obama took in his recent speech on race, was to condemn Wright's offensive rhetoric.

The second step is in our hands: Strengthen Obama as the Democratic nominee by uniting behind him now. Amplify his postpartisan message to American voters. Families in Pennsylvania, like those across America, are feeling insecure about their jobs, healthcare, their children's education, and the safety of the nation. They want leaders to be bold and practical in addressing our most serious challenges, and to work across party lines to achieve results. Obama promises to do that.

Those of us who have supported Clinton and continue to believe that she would be an excellent president can play an important part in moving our nation forward by supporting Obama. We can spread the word that he offers the right leadership for these challenging times.

Our support would send a powerful message that the United States is headed in a new direction - on race relations, certainly, but perhaps most importantly, on what it means to be an American.

Hillary Clinton only raised $7 million in March

Newsweek's Romano thinks Hillary may have raised only $7 million in primary--as opposed to general-election--funds last month, and concludes (reasonably, I think) that any primary endgame may have less to do with a superdelegate swarm or a Dean-Pelosi-Reid-Gore poobah intervention than possible bankruptcy:

As the clock ticks down, Clinton will have fewer chances to gain delegates and votes, and Obama will appear more and more inevitable. Wins in Indiana and North Carolina on May 6--hardly a sure thing, but possible--would only accelerate that process. All of which is to say that if Obama "looks like the nominee" at some point before the convention, Clinton's financial intake may flatline. In that case, she probably won't have the rainy-day money necessary to keep fighting (unless it's more of her own). Meaning that it

Clinton Income 2000-2007: $109,175,175

I'm completely flabbergasted at the money the Clintons have made since 2000.
Look at the income totals below. A cumulative total of $109,175,175. It's all there. Warts and all. They have layed it bare for the world to see, just for a slimmer of a hope to win this whole thing.

Now, start combing the fine print for details on Bill's post-WH sources of income. If there's a ticking time bomb, that's where it'll most likely be found.... First thing I notice ... $175K in dividend income from CITIGROUP in 2001 returns. Remember, Clinton helped CEO Sandy Weill to repeal Glass-Steagall in 1998-99. Also worth investigating current connection with Bob Rubin as CEO, who was Treasury Secretary under Clinton. So, the big question ... what's the Clinton-Citigroup connection and how much mutual "backscratching" has taken place?

...A question for me is YGP. L.P another Cayman Islands firm. It is listed that this entity acts as a advisor tor Yucalpa Global. Now, the people behind YGP is DGI or the Dubai Investment Group. Dubai Royal Family is behind this group.

Two questions arise. What favours did Bill Clinton pull in relation to recieving this payoffs and a still pending $20m from Yulculpa. Is R. Burkle the front man for this. Did this 'advice' have anything to do with Dubai Ports World and its foray into the USA 2 years ago.

There's an awful lot of potential for corruption in that 109 million. And let's remember, the Clintons are not paid so much for creating a better widget or a better manufacturing process or for running a better restaurant or store. The Clintons are paid for who they are and for access to them. Bill has been going around selling access to a future Hillary administration, with who knows what favors promised. This is one of the main reasons to reject Hillary's candidacy; she would sell us out in huge ways.

A trail is there.

You'd think given these obscene amounts of money that they would give some slack to their donors, and chip in to fund their own campaign, given the way it has all turned out. Hope next time people will think twice in giving them anymore money.

So much for worrying about the working people.

The Clintons you don't fool me. These are obscene amounts of money and they are clearly cashing in on legacy even after which solving none of the pressing poverty in which they found and left this country in.

I wonder what their 'down at the heel' voters would make of this.

PS. I'm still waiting for the list of donors to the foundation. Arab Ruling Families, Dictators, Oil Sheiks, Arm Dealers, Tax Cheats et all. I'm still waiting.

Hillary Campaign Busted: Colombia NAFTA Scandal Brewing

Update-

Remember, just a few weeks ago, one day before the Ohio primary, on March 3, when Senator Clinton - with an assist from Canadian officials - made a mountain out of Canadian press reports that an unpaid economic advisor to Senator Obama had reportedly met with a low-level Canadian diplomat?

Here is what she said:

"If you come to Ohio and you go give speeches that are very critical of NAFTA... and then we find out that your chief economic adviser has gone to a foreign government and basically done the old wink-wink - `Don't pay any attention, this is just political rhetoric' -- I think that raises serious questions...
"I would ask you to look at this story and substitute my name for Sen. Obama's name and see what you would do with this story... Just ask yourself [what you would do] if some of my advisers had been having private meetings with foreign governments."

Now we get to find out.
The Wall Street Journal reports:
Clinton Aide Met on Trade Deal
Penn Held Talks On Colombia Pact Opposed by Senator
By SUSAN DAVIS
April 4, 2008; Page A3
Hillary Clinton's chief campaign strategist met with Colombia's ambassador to the U.S. on Monday to discuss a bilateral free-trade agreement, a pact the presidential candidate opposes.

Attendance by the adviser, Mark Penn, was confirmed by two Colombian officials...
Wait. The plot thickens!

He wasn't there in his campaign role, but in his separate job as chief executive of Burson-Marsteller Worldwide, an international communications and lobbying firm. The firm has a contract with the South American nation to promote congressional approval of the trade deal, among other things, according to filings with the Justice Department...
Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates, Mr. Penn's campaign-consulting firm, received more than $10 million in payments from the Clinton campaign as of the end of February, according to federal election filings...

A spokesman for Colombia's President Álvaro Uribe said the ambassador met with Mr. Penn to discuss the bilateral agenda...

The spokesman said he didn't know if Mr. Penn was representing Sen. Clinton or Burson-Marsteller, which signed a $300,000, one-year contract with the Colombian Embassy in March 2007 to work on behalf of the trade deal and anti-drug-trafficking initiatives, according to the Justice Department filings.
Mark Penn is not - as in the case that Senator Clinton cited on March 3 - an unpaid issues advisor, but, rather, the commander-in-chief of the Clinton campaign: the chief strategist, pollster, message czar, and the highest paid member of her campaign staff.

I can't remember a presidential campaign in my lifetime in which the top strategist moonlighted for corporate accounts during the heat of the primaries. The conflict of interest is staggering. Add to that press reports about how former campaign manager Patty Solis Doyle went to Senator Clinton and begged her to fire Penn, but it was Solis Doyle, not the man in charge, that was cut loose as scapegoat for the campaign's ailments.
Somewhere in Pennsylvania there is a factory that employs Americans at union wages. Somewhere in North Carolina and Indiana, too... The "free trade" agreement that Penn was paid $300,000 to shepherd to passage would open the door for the company that owns the factory to move it to a country where if a worker tries to start a union, chances are he or she will be assassinated. The company will be able to get the same work done, in that case, for slave wages, and without any of those pesky environmental, safety and health regulations that protect the worker in Pennsylvania.

Clinton's March 3 challenge to the press corps - ""I would ask you to look at this story and substitute my name for Sen. Obama's name and see what you would do with this story" - is eerily reminiscent of when a certain Colorado senator running for president in 1988 denied reports about his private life and urged reporters: ""Follow me around. I don't care. I'm serious. If anybody wants to put a tail on me, go ahead. They'll be very bored."

Of course, this scandal doesn't involve sex... just the wellbeing of workers and their families across the United States, with the sword of another dangerous "free trade" agreement dangling over their heads.

Why Isn't John McCain pulling ahead?

You could fill an ocean with the tears being shed by Democrats these days -- tears of anguish and tears for opportunity lost. Here we stand, in all of our lefty glory, having been handed a historic opportunity to not only reclaim the presidency, but to rewrite the (right wing tilting) genetic code that's been controlling American politics for almost two generations.

So what are Democrats doing with this great opportunity? Well, by most accounts (including some by me), we're fu*king it up royally. Far from pushing our considerable advantages over the Republicans to there fullest, we're allowing the increasingly nasty campaign between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to tear the party apart.

A full 28 percent of Clinton supporters tell pollsters they'll vote for McCain if Obama gets the nomination, while 19 percent of Obama supporters similarly threaten to abandon the party if their "horse" doesn't win. Meanwhile, McCain, the GOP nominee in waiting, is free to travel the world looking presidential -- or at least as presidential as someone can look while imitating a puppet sitting on Joe Lieberman's lap.

Could things be any more hopeless for the Democrats?

Well, yeah, actually they could: in fact, without in any way minimizing the damage that's being done to the party by the bitterness of the primary campaigns, things actually don't look all that bad for Democrats right now.

So, perhaps we should take a break from drowning our sorrows in vodka spiked lattes, to take note of something sort of important that isn't happening to John McCain. He isn't pulling significantly ahead of the prospective Democratic candidates. Indeed, according to the latest polls, McCain doesn't appear to be running much better than a dead heat with both Clinton and Obama.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/106108/Gallup -Daily-Democratic-Race-Steady-Obama-49-C linton-46.aspx

I won't pretend to speak for Republicans (please, Lord, don't I have enough to be ashamed of already?), but if I were running John McCain's campaign, I think this might make me more than a little nervous. These, after all, are his golden days: the press still loves him, the Democrats, distracted as they busily gouge each other's eyes out, are largely leaving him alone and wayward Republicans appear to be drifting home.

For John McCain, this is as good as it's going to get: yet, according to the poll numbers, at least, things actually aren't going nearly as well for him as one might have expected, given all of the circumstances. Put another way (and I like putting it this way), for John McCain, it's all downhill from here.

As hard as it may be to imagine right now, Democrats, despite ourselves, will eventually settle on a nominee. Even if it takes 200 ballots at the convention, at the end of the day "there can be only one." Most likely it will be Barack Obama (Hillary still has a small chance, but lets go with Barack for the sake of discussion): and just like that, John McCain, instead of looking like a tired old man reading a boring prepared speech, will find himself looking, instead, like a tired old man reading a boring speech while, metaphorically, standing next to one of the most exciting -- if not the most exciting -- orators of the last 30 years.

Oh, and by the way, the exciting orator in question has shown a remarkable ability to raise money like a son of a bitch - something for which, McCain, at least to this point, has shown little knack.

Also, as of that moment, instead of him being able to shoot at the Democrats at will, while largely escaping fire himself, McCain will find himself under return fire 24/7.

The war in Iraq -- McCain's 100 year war in Iraq -- will still be going strong and will still be wildly unpopular.

The economy will be in the tank and McCain will still have no idea -- not the slightest clue -- what to do about it.

And the American people will still desperately want change. Whatever other virtues Americans see when they look into John McCain's eyes (and let's be honest, they do see many), one thing they do not see is change.

Enjoy your spring (and perhaps early summer) basking in the sun, Senator McCain, for next fall is likely to bring colder weather.

Obama: Massive GE Mobilization Plan

Expect to hear more and more on this plan as time progesses.
The later we get in the calendar, the more registration. There's every reason to believe that Obama can actually expand the party base. Not only that, but whereas Hillary pulls more senior folks to the polls, Obama exerts his largest pull in segments of the population that are growing. We know that voters who cast their first ballots for a party are predisposed to candidates from that party for the rest of their voting lives.

Bringing new voters to the polls "is going to be a very big part of how we win," said Obama's deputy campaign manager, Steve Hildebrand, in an interview. "Barack's appeal to independent voters is also going to be key."

Hildebrand said the campaign is likely to turn its attention and the energy of its massive volunteer army this fall on registering African-American voters, and voters under 35 years old, in key states.

"Can it change the math in Ohio? Very much so," he said. "If you look at the vote spread between Bush and Kerry in 2004 - we could potentially erase that."

If Barack Obama, were not involved in this election cycle; do any of you, (whether for him, Hillary, or McCain), image this race would be as powerfully motivating. I don't care who you are, or what you believe, this is great for America. Whether the candidate we've chosen to pledge our hearts to wins, or loses, this is something for America to build upon. Taking part in the Election Process, is a beautiful thing. Prayerfully, our young people will remain interesed, for the rest of their lives.
