What would happen if...

I was reading this article on cnn which discusses how Bush is in big trouble.

A Historical Footnote

In it there is something I've heard before and have for a long time, that the Democrats aren't in a much better position than Republicans right now in the polls.  I know how precarious politics can be when lives are on the line and someone is wielding the nationalistic shovel.  So I was wondering, considering how clearly Democrats are not in a position to act themselves and get little in the way of answers from the administration either.  Considering how they are treated like second class citizens (or maybe simply mere citizens) on capitol hill. Would it be beneficial for a group of them, if not all of them, to pack up a lawn chair and a cooler and head down to Crawford Texas and take up the cause?  And I mean sit there alongside Casey, or in her place for the moment, and ask the same question she is asking and maybe pick one or two of their own to ask.  Would it help, would it hurt, is there any political danger in those guys/gals showing some backbone and  standing up (or at least sitting down at the end of his driveway)?  And I do mean sit there the whole time, maybe bring a book like My Pet Goat to read in their spare time.  Clearly a page turner.  I'm interested in the politics of it all and assume people here might have some ideas.

I'm tired of the political talk and want to at least see some action.   They can't wring his neck so maybe they can ring his doorbell once or twice.

I doubt it.
The Reepologists are already trying to smear Cindy as a "tool" of lib-orgs like MoveOn and Michael Moore.

If Dem pols started showing up for photo ops with her, it really would be reduced to crass politicism, and they'd likely drag her down with them rather than the other way around.

No, the Dems need to stand up for themselves and prove that they can figure out the right thing to do without Cindy Sheehan explaining it to them.

Re: I doubt it.
Doesn't backing away due to the existence or threat of a smear only embolden them to continue the tactic?  Thats kind of what got the dems in the position they are in now.  Not that you are right or wrong about it helping.  But just because someone starts a smear is not a valid reason to back away or not join in.  Would seem to me they take the chance of being conspicuously absent.  Also, I don't think Cindy Sheehan needs to explain anything to them.  Though certainly if they were to join in it might diminish the light she shines on a subject and it might be better they do something else on the side that enhances the whole of the attack rather than simply piling on.

I mostly agree.
I don't mean to suggest that the reason to stay away is the threat of the smear; the reason the're trying to smear her that way is because it takes away the thing that's made her story so poignant; it's her against our whole stupid inept government. Not her and MoveOn; not her and the Dems; /her and other military families demanding to know what their children are being sacrificed for. Having a John Kerry or a Hillary Clinton or a Russ Feingold next to her would ruin that, and the Limbaugh-Hannity axis wouldn't have to say a word.

Re: I mostly agree.
Hmm, yes.  Of course it won't go back to that.  But yes her alone sitting at the end of the drive way does make for an interesting picture.  That purity of message is gone unless she can somehow set herself aside from everything that is going on there now.  She would be smart to set herself apart and allow people to watch but make a point of going it alone in the crowd.  Maybe her effort taking the Repubs down a notch or two is enough, and the dems simply need to now find a way separately to get their message (yes, what message) moving up the charts.  Maybe Im impatient but I really think something needs to start happening.  Im afraid the momentum game will be lost.

This new camp
that they were offered after Reeps started threatening them and vandalizing their site is going to be for military families only. So they are trying to hold onto the core of their mission there.

Correction:
From the Cindy Blog @ Truthout, it appears that everybody's moving to the new camp. My mistake.
