The Animal Farm Is Open For Business

When I was a boy I read Animal Farm in school and watched the cartoon. I never thought I would need to know these things but as I've watched this administration unfold I was reminded of my early days and the story of Napolean the pig and poor old Snowball. I reread the book and its absolutely amazing how right down the line this administration is following that story. So I was wondering, what characters and events do others feel correlate to those in the book. Karl Rove as Squeeler the pig, Cheney as Napolean, Snowball as the Clinton administration... What do you think?
When I was a boy I read Animal Farm in school and watched the cartoon.  I can remember it well in elementary school.  Along with it we were shown films and discussed those nasty horrible communists and how they might come in and subvert us by infiltrating our schools and teaching us things that would convert us to their philosophy.  I'm 34 so I'm talking about the mid to late 70's.  To me now it seems a bit odd that I was being taught such things in school.  Was the general fear of communism that great back then?  I don't know, I was too busy playing dodgeball. But I'm glad I was introduced to such works as Animal Farm.  Why did I get it in elementary school and not in highschool later on in the 80s when discussion of the topic would have been more intelligent?  I never thought I would need to know these things but as I've watched this administration unfold I was reminded of my early days and the story of Napolean the pig and poor old Snowball.  I reread the book and its absolutely amazing how right down the line this administration is following that story.  Even to the point of having them give each other awards to pump themselves up.  Remember those lovely Presidential Medal of Freedom given to Rumsfeld and Co.  So I was wondering, if anyone ever reads this, what characters and events do others feel correlate to those in the book.  Karl Rove as Squeeler the pig, Cheney as Napolean, The war on terror (not terror itself) as the windmill meant to distract us from what they are really up to.  The horse sent off to the glue factory is the Democratic party in general, the mule being the American people in general, not quite remembering things as they were originally, now twisted by the lengthy use of propoganda. The pep talks, the fear mongering.  Hmm, maybe snowball is the Clinton administration, being blamed for having let 911 happen when he did his best to draw up plans to prevent it and those plans now being perverted and used against us.  I guess its hard to come up with a one for one comparison.  Its not like they are "trying" to match the story. What do you think?
