I don't think I'm going out on a limb here by saying EVERYONE thinks the Baucus bill is a bad idea. The only people in favor of it are people who have been bribed by the health insurance industry. It's a horrible, horrible bill.
My thinking so far has been along the lines of "Max Baucus probably does not have the country's best interests in mind here, but what are you going to do? He chairs the finance committee. What can anyone do?" That's changed since his bill has come out - it's so awful that he's kind of hamstrung himself, I think.
I don't know, he has a point. You two really need to stop trying to get Olympia Snowe to agree with you. Don't you two see that you're just getting played? You know, when you're in the Senate chamber negotiating with Olympia Snowe.
Also, stop standing in the way of the public option. Both of you.
You can always create a short term expansion by spending like there's no tomorrow. Reagan tripled the deficit but only got slightly better than average growth? It's only because W. has made everyone else look good that you can consider than an accomplishment.
We'll find out if Van Jones is the beginning of more to come or not.
I agree about the legislative issues - especially the citizenship check. It's bad policy and it's horrible politics. Mssrs Baucus and Conrad essentially said "yeah, we tried to slide one past you, but you caught us. Alright, we won't funnel money to illegals."
You think it's just a coincidence that the first black President is also the first President that a sizable minority of the country believes is illegitimate or acts like he doesn't deserve the respect of the office?
The birthers won't die even though they have no case. They just can't stand a black President.
No President has ever been directly heckled while addressing Congress. It doesn't occur to Joe Wilson to give the office the respect that people have been giving it for over 200 years.
The whole school speech brouhaha is the same thing. A bunch of people who are HORRIFIED when the President does things that remind them that he is, in fact, President. When my father was in high school, during morning prayers they would bless President Eisenhauer. And Obama can't even speak to children?
After a while, you run out of other reasons that people are so out of their minds about this man.
