Dear Senator Reid: I'm In The Ring With You On This One.

"Coal makes us sick. Oil makes us sick. It's global warming. It's ruining our country. It's ruining our world." Senator Harry Reid

It "may be the most important policy we will ever pass." Senator Harry Reid

"It's about restoring our country's place as a global leader in technology and innovation. It's about ending our addiction to oil and our reliance on the unfriendly, unstable regions from which it is imported." Senator Harry Reid.

Dear Senator Reid:

Time to dust off the boxing gloves Senator Reid, because you've got a fight on your hands. To get the Kerry-Graham-Lieberman bill passed, heck to get it to the floor, you're going to need to do combine some fancy footwork, a few right hooks and you're going to need to stand up and take some shots I fear.

But here's the good news.

I'll climb into the ring with you and I am going to bring some friends.

Because I believe that this bill, this moment in time, this fight is the most important fight of our generation and you know it too.

"The future of our planet, our economy, our security depend on the choices we make now." Senator Harry Reid

So why am I climbing in the ring on this one?

Well, it starts with my young friends who are veterans - men and women who have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not only is global warming a national security threat, according to the Pentagon, but it's a threat to our men and women in uniform. Their lives are on the line because we need to protect oil fields in far away lands. We don't need the 101st Airborne guarding solar panels in Arizona. And I don't want to read anymore about National Guard troops being sent to the Middle East for the third or fourth time while their families are forced onto food stamps here at home.

So let's fight for our troops.

I am also stepping up on this fight with you because I believe that our nation's economy is at a critical crossroads. As we watch countries all around the world get farther and farther ahead of us when it comes to renewable energy, unemployment is climbing and I think we are headed for further serious long term economic problems. We need to massively invest in new technologies, new companies, solar, wind, thermal. We need to put people back to work now, in new industries.

So let's fight for everyone who is unemployed and wants to work.

I am fighting with you on this because I know, as you do that global warming is a man made issue. We have taken a planet, a virtually perfect creation and we are altering it by our actions. Your children and grandchildren, my children, all our children, they deserve to inherit a planet as good, if not better, than the one we inherited.

So let's fight for our children.

But make no mistake about it Senator Reid. This is going to be a fight. Over the next ninety days, the oil and energy companies and their paid-for elected officials, they are going to spend $50 million, $100 million? Who knows? They will spend whatever it takes to protect their profits. It's just like the tobacco companies a few decades ago, they knew that tobacco caused cancer, but they created new scientists, they muddied the water, distorted the facts, created confusion, did everything they could to eke out a few more quarters of massive profits.

People will say it's a tax, it's going to ruin our economy, it's going to stop our recovery. It's all crap but we'll have to fight that as well.

You know you are right, after all you said.

"By 2025, our window of opportunity may well be closed. The tipping point that scientists fear - the time at which the environmental impact becomes severe and irreversible - maybe have been reached by then. And our chance to create millions of new jobs, catalyze technology development and keep investment here in America will surely be lost." Senator Harry Reid

Do you remember 1995 Senator Reid? I do as well. Not so long ago, and 2025 is not so far away.

Thanks for fighting on this one, I look forward to being in the ring with you.

It looks like Reid climbed out of the ring just as you climbed in. :(
