Party Unity Means Hillary Clinton for Vice-President

Barack Obama can probably convince his true believers that all the insane hate-speech directed at Hillary Clinton in the last six months can be washed away by offering her a second-tier cabinet position, but for millions of Hillary's supporters who have been vilified as racists and insulted with every other conceivable term of abuse, it may not be quite so easy to forgive and forget.

Obama's friends on the blogs and in the mainstream media are trying to bully Hillary Clinton's supporters into voting for Obama by threatening them with the bogey-man McCain, and the implication is perfectly clear:

"We can demonize Hillary Clinton and all of you who supported her for six months, but you have no choice except to vote for Obama anyway, because otherwise the bogey-man McCain will eat you up!"

This isn't just made-for-TV rhetoric for the youth vote, it's toddler-logic for imbeciles!

If Obama plans to carry over the vindictiveness of the primaries into the general election by tossing Hillary Clinton a scrap and trying to pass it off as magnanimity, he may turn what should be a Democratic landslide into a toss-up, and leave voters in the general election with a very unappealing choice between a bogey-man and a vindictive hypocrite.

Barack Obama can unify the Democratic Party in one second by selecting Hillary Clinton for Vice-President, and simultaneously refute all of us who doubt that there's any substance behind his made-for-TV persona, or he can carry the animosities of the primary campaign forward into the general election and try to bullshit his way into the White House with meaningless slogans and empty gestures.

But he shouldn't take Hillary Clinton's supporters for granted. Barack Obama and his friends have been trying to bully and blackmail us into supporting him for the last six months, and he still lost four out of the last five primaries.

I hope no Obama supporter gets sucked into this diary with its negative characterizations of Obama and his supporters.

Excellent Diary.  I agree totally.  If Obama throws Hillary down the garbage disposal, he will be doing the same to her supporters.

Obviousely Snark

I hope that is not required.

As much as I love me some Hillary, I think she should refuse such an offer.  She is needed elsewhere, her talents are better suited elsewhere, and there are other ways to unify the ticket (namely, working her ass off for him without having to be required to do it because she is on the ticket).

What he said- y'know, jarhead, for a Marine, you're pretty astute and have what seems to be a great deal of common sense. Are you sure you're really a Marine?

As always Jacob you are entitled to your opinion.

However, might I suggest you lose the bold. It makes it look like a rant and is therefore easy to ignore.

What are you talking about?  Everybody knows that adding bold to a rant makes it SOOO much more credible and awesome.

How silly.

"Either Obama does what I want, or else HE'S THE DEVIL AND SUCKS ZOMG BBQ!!1!1"

He owes Clinton nothing. I'd be sorely disappointed if he allowed himself to be bullied into letting her be VP by the insane ramblings of you and your ilk.

Re: Party Unity Means Hillary Clinton for Vice-Pre

As I said in my diary "HOW SIMPLE CAN IT BE?" a few posts down the list:

Obama supporters are thinking: "Come November, the average Hillary supporter will have to choose between Obama and McCain, and they'll choose Obama."

This one would work if Americans voted according to their best interests. If they didn't choose Bush over Dukakis because they were race-baited, if they didn't choose Reagan twice because he was going to help the economy, if they didn't choose Bush over Gore because gay marriage mattered more than their family income, or Bush over Kerry because of immigrants who were going to run wild in the streets.

A Rude Reminder:

If Clinton supporters don't vote for Obama, these are the people they'd be aligning with.

Warning: ugly language.

John McCain did not take the opportunity to be civil. To chastise an "overzealous" supporter.  He laughed.  And then treated the question seriously.

This is the man who would be our next President.

That's enough, for me, to say that Party Unity means nothing more than defeating these people.

the nominee needs to select his own VP without threats, whether or not that is Clinton is not up to me, nor you.

Now fuck off.

Re: Party Unity Means Hillary Clinton for Vice-Pre

As a Clinton supporter, I must say that I am APPALLED at the idea of Hillary Clinton being a part of this ticket.

She has been ridiculed, insulted, taunted, and called every name in the book. To bail out Obama now after being called a racist and after the insults directed at the Clinton administration, is asking too much. What humiliation that would be.

No, Barack made his bed. He can lie in it. I think he should pick Bill Richardson. They go very well together.

Hillary needs to stay off this losing, anti-American ticket. It will taint her forever if she ties herself to a candidate that, in my opinion, is going to lose in a landslide. He has offended half the Democratic party. Even if some come back, many--like myself--will never vote for him. Combine that with a Republican nominee that is more palatable than most Republicans and appeals to Independents, and Obama will lose. Big Time.

Don't fall for it, Hillary. They betrayed you. Let them live with the consequences.

Next time I'm asked "Well, what Clinton supporters actually claim she was betrayed? I don't know anybody saying that!"....

...there ya go.
