Thanks for the thoughtful comment. I concur with you that it would be nice to have justice outside the "judicial bubble." I suspect Obama won't go outside the judicial monastery the first time out of the box though.
I think you have it about right. The GOP definitely appears diminished. Obama's stature remains high and he is a quick study. It's frustrating though because most of us liberal bloggers realized the foolhardiness of bipartisanship from the beginning. Ultimately, the key is to appear bipartisan even as you follow through on a firm agenda that Republicans don't like. Bipartisan style while bargaining hard for every penny.
Agreed. Hence, it's best for Obama to establish a strong bargaining position from the onset. There will always enough senators willing to bargain and cut a deal out of self-interest regardless as we saw with two Senators from Maine and Specter. Next time there may be different group depending on the issue or region impacted. So he might as well establish his positions firmly and go from there.
