Barack Obama got his money/donor counter rolling along again

I have to admit, that number counter gets me going.  Hell, makes me want to pull out my check book or CC again.  So, I am refraining, since I have donated already.  But DAMN, just THIS week, which started YESTERDAY, almost 2100 donation from over 2000 donors.

What is cool about the ticker, anyone who donated and wrote an inspiring little piece why they are donating, next to their name is a message box, click on it and you can read, why they donated to the campaign. Innovative.

I got to stop watchin' that counter...

Love the graphic!

It's kind of cool.  The names and hometowns of donors scroll by and you can click on their name to read their statement about why they donated.

Re: Love the graphic!

His campaign, HANDS DOWN, it the most innovative in raising money online, hands down.  Who would have thought???  But he had everyone looking at those contributions towards the end of Q1, now he has stepped up the game.

Re: Love the graphic!

Why do you think his online fundraising is the most innovative?  I'm curious - not saying it's not.  And I guess I should offer the disclaimer that I'm a committed Edwards supporter, small-donation-maxer-outer to Edwards, and volunteer fundraiser for Edwards too - but I'm interested in discussion here, not pissing contests.

I've been pretty impressed with the way the Edwards campaign's last 10 days email campaign to raise money online has been handled.  A separate thermometer on the site, updates from different campaign personalities - and appeals, and a donor-counter as well.

Perhaps the best part has been the 'asks' in each fundraising email.  They've been substantive, related to what the campaign is going to do, and tied to the vision (and not like "John Edwards is good for America - give money."

Another cool thing has been the Small Change for Big Change events.  They've done events around the country with John and Elizabeth for small donors in a rally-type setting, and this Wednesday, they're doing house parties with conference calls with John and a new campaign DVD that are to rally the troops, bring in new supporters, and raise some small donation cash.

A lot more people-powered fundraising has been going on in 2008 than ever before - and it's been very impressive in both numbers and style.

Re: Love the graphic!

Maybe because it is innovative.  People like to watch MONEY, they do.  He is putting donors, contributions, and stories up on the front page to read.  I looked at all the Dems websites, and his is hands down, the most interactive.  Through and through.  And the money counter, who does not want to watch money, grow.  A psyche.

Re: Barack Obama

I was struck today that there is only one small picture of Obama on his home page... I remember Biden at one point had 8 pictures of himself up when you first log in...

Obama's page seems to get more complex each week - now there are tons of options when you first click on.

Re: Barack Obama

But the navigation is simple.  As a website should be.  You have to have a site, with your information, at a click, but SIMPLE to navigate.  He has that.

Re: Barack Obama

I agree - I'm just thinking to how much it has evolved in the past 3 months... it is probably the best site up right now.

Number of Donors
Could Barack be in line to triple Edwards' number of donors?
According to his ticker, Edwards has around 50,000 donors so far this quarter.  Last quarter he had around 40,000 donors to Obama's 100,000, with the quarter ending in March.
Obama added an additional 42,000 new donors during a new donor drive in April.  And then the Dinner for 5 fundraising plea had over 8,000 donations in the first 24 hours...
We'll see.  100,000 new donors last quarter.  Will he hit another 150,000 new donors this quarter?  Maybe not quite that high.

Re: Number of Donors

If Obama hit 250,000 donors - that would be a massive number considering that his average take in last quarter was $250 a donor...that would be 62.5 million total, 37 million from new donors and lets say 10 million from repeat - that would be 47 million.

But, more realistically, lets say he gets to 200,000 - that would put him around 37 million this quarter.  I think he is between 38 and 45 million for the quarter.

Re: Number of Donors

you think so??...That's a lot..I hope he raises $50 millions.

Jerome in "Breaking Blue" seems to think

that these are Obama's new contributors for the entire quarter. Least that's the way his "supporter counters for Obama and Edwards" reads to me. I hope he clarifies it.
