Irene Molloy, at Fired Up Missouri has a great diary up http://www.firedupmissouri.com/i_support
_josh about Sen. Jim Talent's Swiftboating of Veteran Josh Lansdale. Check it out!
As a native Missourian I got to thinking, what would Harry Truman say about Talent's stooping into the deepest part of the gutter to defame an injured war veteran just for speaking out. Well, truthfully, I can't print here what ol' Harry Truman would say but it would not be suitable for a family friendly website.

Occasionally I listen to wingnut radio. Today was a good day to do it -- listening to the excuses and blame deflecting & jabbering about Foley was kinda fun. One thing came across loud & clear. The wingnuts don't want thier listeners to know that the Republicans control Congress, the administration or the courts! SERIOUSLY!

We need a Special Prosecutor to investigate what did Speaker Dennis Hastert and other Republican leaders know and when did they know it. Preadatorgate involves not a simple violation of House rules but potential criminal behavior in more than one jurisdiction. It's also about Obstruction of Justice for those who may have covered it up. The Bush Justice Department cannot be counted upon to go after the GOP leadership. A Special Prosecutor is warranted.

What's next from Karl Rove, President Cheney and their weak little errand boy, George W. Bush?
We know they want to fight the election over who is tougher in the "war on terror". We know they will try to do to other Democrats what they did to Sen. Max Cleland in 2002. We know they pushed a vote on it this week and peeled off some Democrats who are good at reading polls and bad on standing for principles. We know they have lead a campaign to blame 9/11 on Bill Clinton. So, what's next?
I expect something from their message machine about a base igniting issue involving gays. Is is possible to link the "war on terror" to hatred of gays? The message might be something like -- we need to be strong morally to fight the "war on terror" so let's make everyone more secure by defending marriage. We know they will use wedge issues. Those who are prematurely pronouncing George Allen dead should remember that there is a statewide vote for an amendment to the Virginia Constitution enshrining discrimination against gays. Allen is going to use this. Jim Webb has a strong stance against discrimination.

George Allen...an African-American?
That seems to be the latest Republican talking point. It goes like this according to two callers in a row on a DC talk radio show this morning. George Allen's mother is Tunisian, an African country. That makes George an African-American. So it must be that when he used the "N-word" it was just locker room banter from an African-American and should not be judged by the same standard as a regular white guy of European descent.
I laughed at first, but the second caller pushed the above reasoning too. These folks certainly are creative. By this standard Allen is a white, Jewish, African-American and immune from any charge except anti-Hispanic bias (until it comes out that some of his family was from Mexico

The DC primary elections are over, thanks to everyone who contributed to the historic mandate for our new Mayor starting next January, Adrian Fenty. To spark real change in Washington, the next task is to elect Jim Webb over stone-age George W. Bush clone Senator George Allen, and elect Martin O'Malley & Ben Cardin in Maryland. Jim Webb's race is really heating up:

On Sept. 12 the Democratic Primary will elect a new Mayor for Washington, DC. If you don't live in DC, just remember that it is the bluest jurisdiction in the country, something like 93% for Kerry and it is the only majority African-American city/state. We are less than a state but more than a city. We pay taxes (high taxes) but our elected representatives can't vote. It's the only capital city in the world where the residents have second class status. I think it's partly the last vestage of legal racism. If Washington, DC looked like Wisconsin racially, I think we would at least have voting rights in Congress. That is simplistic, it's also reality.
