Who Does Vilsack's Withdrawl Help & Who Is Running for Veep?

Iowa is the most important state in the Presidential nomination process.  Sorry New Hampshire.  Whenever the three term Governor of the most important state drops out, it's big news.

Springtime for Al Gore in Washington - He Will Testify!

(I tried to post this on Breaking Blue but am having a technical problem)

I'm sold by a Gore fan/source that the former Veep is slated to testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works, about global warming, on March 21.  A staffperson I talked to today would not confirm or deny it, but said something would be "noticed" i.e., announced, later this week.

Dukakis & Edwards

Bumped from the diaries -- Jonathan... Really interesting historical perspective.

In a campaign as long as this one there will be lots of opportunities for the opposition, the real opposition, to attack the staff of thier opponents.  Today it is the John Edwards campaign that is engulfed by a storm over 2 bloggers they had recently hired.  I'm still not sure about the outcome of this but it does make me think back to the Dukakis Campaign, John Sasso & Donna Brazile.

My Letter to David Broder/It's Not 1972 Anymore

2/7/07

A line from your column in the Washington Post, 2/7/07 read: "One of the losers in the weekend oratorical marathon was retired Gen. Wesley Clark, who repeatedly invoked the West Point motto of "Duty, Honor, Country," forgetting that few in this particular audience have much experience with, or sympathy for, the military."

Betty Was More Important than Her Husband

Like most, I've got mixed feelings, but no malice, about President Ford.  He will be known as the guy who pardoned Nixon and the first & hopefully the last unelected President.  Sure, he gets high marks for being a good guy, in contrast to the guy he pardoned.  He was honest.  Everybody knows about the pardon, but few know that he gave the go-ahead green light to Indonesia before the bloody invaision of East Timor.  It was not Ford's idea, but he did not do anything about it -- though his options were few.

Peace on earth, and especially in the new year.  Happy Holidays to all.

Congratulations to You, the 2006 Time Magazine Person of the Year and Rep. Chris Van Hollen, the new Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  We want at least 35 new blue House seats in our 2008 Christmas stocking.
