11. Drinking Liberally, Every Thursday, Spencer Ackerman, Speaker on Jan. 24
We hope you can join us every Thursday, 6:30 - 9:00 PM in the back room of Timberlake's (1726 Connecticut Ave NW, Dupont Circle Metro.) The Presidential Race is always a hot topic these days. It's a good time for a reminder that Drinking Liberally supports all progressive candidates generally, but endorses no candidate specifically. Of course, many of us individually have horses in this race. That goes for the presidential race as well as the 2008 Congressional races. So, if there's a particular candidate you'd like to support, please do stop by. We can most likely point you in the right direction to get more involved.
On Jan 24 we will host our first guest speaker of the year, Spencer Ackerman as he transitions from his role as Reporter/Blogger for TPMmuckraker.com, to his new position as Senior Reporter for the Washington Independent (set to launch Jan 28). Additionally, he's a senior correspondent for The American Prospect and national security correspondent for the Washington Monthly. For all the latest, including events not described in this email, make sure to check out the website at http://dcdl.org.

Can't travel? make a commitment to call about 50 people in South Carolina per week via the campaign's "virtual phone bank." This is ideal for busy supporters who can't commit to specific group phone banks but want to help out in their free time. You can call as few or as many people as time allows, and the 50 people per week number only amounts to 10 calls per day.
If you're interested, please contact Paige at email@example.com; she'll contact the South Carolina coordinator and get you a personalized user name and a password for South Carolina's electronic potential supporter network.
15. Students Mobilize for Donna Edwards
Students at the University of Maryland, College Park are organizing along with activists, families and other community members from all over Prince George's and Montgomery County to support Real Democrat Donna Edwards in her bid to beat DINO Al Wynn (MD-4). Edwards is running a strong campaign to unseat Wynn, who consistently sides with Republicans on key votes such as authorizing the war in Iraq, the 2005 bankruptcy bill, Dick Cheney's energy bill, repealing the estate tax, and other pieces of radically conservative legislation. Edwards is the executive director of the Arca Foundation, and has experience working in various community organizations as well as for Public Citizen. She is being supported by Progressive Maryland, and is endorsed by Emily's List, League of Conservative Voters, Democracy for America, NOW, and by the blogs MyDD, Atrios, and others. The 4th, which is one of the most Democratically partisan districts in the country, borders the District of Columbia and stretches along the beltway. For more information, read this post at Free State Politics (Maryland's progressive blogging hub) or join the Facebook group here.
