Six-Shooter in a Duck Blind

Six-Shooter in a Duck Blind

From http://politwix.com

Well, it's official. Barack Obama really is out of touch with small-town America.

Today he launched into a tirade, scolding Hillary for questioning Obama's choice of words during the now famous Bittergate fundraiser at a United Steelworker's rally in Steelton, PA.

Obama expressed his disappointment with Hillary in this way:

"She's running around talking about how this is an insult to sportsmen, how she values the Second Amendment, she's talking like she's Annie Oakley! Hillary Clinton's out there like she's on the duck blind every Sunday, she's packin' a six shooter! C'mon! She knows better. That's some politics being played by Hillary Clinton. I want to see that picture of her out there in the duck blinds."

Well, as any duck hunter knows, you would never take a six-shooter into a duck blind. The NRA will have a field day with this one!

Apparently he also is unaware that Annie Oakley is true hero to women all over small town America. This is from PBS.org, the American Experience:

Annie Oakley may not have considered herself a feminist, but she showed the world what a strong woman could accomplish in an era when women were struggling to gain greater equality, including the right to vote.

Again, we see that Barack Obama doesn't know us. He wants to preside over this great country? He doesn't realize that some of us see Hillary Clinton as cut from the same cloth as "Little Sure Shot", Annie Oakley.

Hillary Clinton welcomes the comparison...in fact, she will probably send him a personal thank you note.

"In her life, Annie overcame poverty, mistreatment and physical injury with her determination and strength of character. She played a role in breaking barriers for women with her talent and accomplishments in her sport. She showed great compassion and generosity to orphans, widows and other young women."

It is also ironic that Oakley lived out several years of her life fighting a libel suit against 55 newspapers that printed a scandalous false story originated by the original "Big Media" guy, William Randolph Hearst in of all places, Chicago.

By all accounts Oakley was persuasive in the courtroom; she dressed conservatively, spoke courteously, and exuded respectability. Hearst tried to undermine her by having a detective go back to Darke County, Ohio, and try to dig up dirt, but he came up empty and was prevented by locals from staying overnight.

She eventually won her battles, and the newspapers were required to file apologies and pay monetary damages.

Sorry Barack, you got your folk heroes mixed up. But you almost hit your mark.

You should inform ATLJay about Annie Oakley's legacy...

Also, if it wasn't clear, Obama is being sarcastic when he says "she's talking like she's Annie Oakley."  The point he is trying to make here is that Hillary is not a big second amendment proponent,  she's not out in the duck blind every Sunday, and that she is not like Annie Oakley.

I recognize a lot of Hillary supporters get angry when Obama implies Hillary is being disingenuous, but that's what these comments are doing; he's not disparaging Annie Oakley.

I'm pretty sure that Obama understands that you don't hunt ducks with a six-shooter. As you can see from the statement, "Hillary Clinton's out there like she's on the duck blind every Sunday, she's packin' a six shooter!" Obama isn't necessarily suggesting that Hillary's packing a six shooter in a duck blind, just that she's "on the duck blind every Sunday" and "packin' a six shooter."

You wish.  I only come here to remind me how stupid partisanship makes people.  I remember that these were reasonable, rational folks in 2004.

Re: Six-Shooter in a Duck Blind

But BO still looks silly talking about these things in his suite and tie.  If he was smart he would just wait a week or so and this would have blown over but by doing on like this he looks even weaker.  Everyone knows he is going have HRC to cover his tracks and this just makes it worse.  And a candidate should never attack some one directly that is what surrogates are for.  By him insulting HRC directly he loses his i am above that and a new kind of candidate.  By doing this he looks like you typical candidate and this will make it ever worse.  Lets all agree that PA is gone as is IN and KY.

Let's start worrying about what the NRA will say.

Re: Six-Shooter in a Duck Blind

OH CMON!!!

Are you seriously trying to attack this remark?

Clinton has been making some pretty outrageous statements recently and she just got called on it.

Apparently you don't have a sense of humor or know what sarcasm is.

All that BO was doing was saying how ridiculous it is that HC is trying to pander to the NRA lovers when we all know her voting history is distinctly opposite to that point of view.  Just like it is ridiculous to look at Obama's background and say that he is elitist.

As if anything could be further from the truth.

Re: Six-Shooter in a Duck Blind

If you know what a duck blind is, I'm going to guess you know that you don't hunt ducks with a six-shooter.  This is silly.

Pennsylvania workers protest Obama's comments!!

uote:
ALTOONA, Pa. -- While Sen. Barack Obama said he didn't mean to offend anyone when he made comments about small-town voters last week, voters in the Alleghenies said they may be hardworking, but not "bitter."

At a fundraiser with donors in California last week, Obama described small-town voters, like those in Pennsylvania, as bitter. He said they're frustrated with their own economic situation and they cling to issues like guns, religion and immigration. On Saturday, he tried to clarify what he meant.

"There are a whole bunch of folks in Pennsylvania and right here in Indiana, who are bitter. They feel like they've been left behind," said Obama in a town hall meeting in Indiana.

However, the local people who were protesting outside his campaign office in Altoona on Sunday said if that's what Obama honestly thinks, then he is not their candidate.

"He is definitely out of touch with the voters in Pennsylvania to blaspheme them the way he did," said Hollidaysburg resident Ted Manna.

Stacey Drugg of Altoona said Obama's comments showed he did represent working people in Pennsylvania or working people period.

Manna said everyone has their own beliefs, but it shouldn't be up to a presidential candidate to tell them their beliefs are wrong.

"All the citizens of Pennsylvania should, rightfully so, be upset that he said we hide behind our religion and our guns," said Manna.

Joseph Antal of Ebensburg said, "With all that's been happening in our area, and in Johnstown with the flood, we rebound back from adversity."

The protest was organized by members of various unions in the region. A union member said there were at least five other similar protests across the state on Sunday.

Re: Six-Shooter in a Duck Blind

Yeah, it's ridiculous.

Everybody knows you hunt ducks by hurling bowling balls at them.

Ever hear of canard au sang"? That's how it's done. Good stuff, too. Pressed duck goes for $99 a pound...
