I was pissed last night. Reading this bullshit put me in the Slough of Despond.
This morning, I'm feeling good. Here is why. Mike Castle running against Beau Biden would be the best thing that could ever happen to Biden.
Biden would have to beat the crap out of Castle to win, and I long to see Castle getting the crap beat out of him. (Castle voted w/ Bush 95% of the time on Iraq. Justice at last!) Biden would have to demonstrate that he is a real Democrat. Running against the wishy-washy Castle would mean that Biden would need to forcefully articulate the Democratic case for governance. Biden could never "out milqtoast" Castle into office. The Dems would be getting a real Dem and not a Tom Carper-esque fraud.
Biden would also have to show that he has real campaign chops. Running a great campaign and knocking off Castle would put to rest any murmurs about Biden's callowness forever. Sure he'd get help from DC - but retail politics still rule in Delaware. It would be Beau's race to win or lose.
Yes. I'm getting giddy thinking about the bloody bar fight between youth and experience. And moreover, I have to think that when Beau returns from Iraq he might find himself getting giddy as well.
If he wants a career in politics and would like to get out from under the impression that he's had things given to him - you can damn well bet that he would be giddy about getting in the ring with the GOP's overthehill champion.
Who could beat Castle, lets see; State Treasurer Jack Markell. Insurance Commissioner Matt Denn, State Senator Karen Peterson, State Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf, That is just a few of the many that could beat Castle.
Castle probably will not even run again. His stroke was worse than they let on and he has indicated that he might have had his fill.
I hope you make it to Delaware. Dennis Spivack is running against a so-called moderate republican in Michael Castle. (Castle votes with the President whenever the vote is close. Most of the time he throws crumbs to gullible Delaware Dems by voting the right way when his vote is meaningless.
Spivack is a long shot, but he has the guts and the heart to take the fight to Castle.
Look at it this way, if the republicans invented TV and used it to win an election, what good would it do to pretend that TV was never invented or that TV was a bogus PR stunt anyway? We'd use TV.
Bogus PR stunt or not, Newt changed the expectations of the press and public by introducing the idea of the "contract". Now it seems that some Democrats want to try and swim upstream against those expectations. Why?
